By the way tow trucks here are flatbeds they are top heavy you cant really brake fast if loaded. We dont know if its loaded or not but might be.

In Portugal, whoever hits the back of a car is automatically responsable. One has be, always, able to stop before crashing the car a head! No argument, no discussion! Just call the cops!
Whenever you double the weight, you double the stopping distance. When you double the speed, you quadruple the stopping distance. If you double both multiply the stopping distance by 8. The lesson to be learned is that the space a truck is giving between them and the next car is so they don't obliterate the vehicle ahead of them if they have to suddenly stop.
With double the speed, that part is correct. But the weight does not mather for the stoping distance. Or a 1.6 ton porsche GT2 must have a much bigget stopping distance as a 400kg Tuctuc ;-)
Kinetic energy increases with the square of speed so that part checks out. However more weight also means more friction and there's a whole load of other variables that makes that rule of thumb useless.
@@LancesterHardwood you're talking about mechanical advantages like the size and type of brakes, I'm talking about the basic math of heavy trucks (which a tow truck is) where you can add a boatload of weight and have the same brakes. None had attention to cause an accident, but both were not cautious enough. The reason why Porsche slammed in the truck was that the car in front had to let the pedestrian pass the crosswalk so he decelerated. The Porsche had a bad luck and bad reaction which cause accident. But the truck driver was also not cautious enough, cause he could have seen that the Porsche was overtaking him and assess the situation: - there was pedestrian waiting the crosswalk. - it is illegal to overtake at crosswalk so Porsche must squeeze behind the black car - the black car should stop Meaning that truck driver could start braking earlier to make enough space. The Porsche overtaking the truck in itself is not illegal. The fact that it did so without proper judgment and causes an "accident" is also NOT illegal. If all accidents are illegal by your logic, then cops should be arresting every single person who are involved in accidents.

To everyone talking about the tow truck driver speeding up, check the person on the top left corner moving really fast, the video is edited to appear to show the truck speeding up. By the way tow trucks here are flatbeds they are top heavy you cant really brake fast if loaded. We dont know if its loaded or not but might be.

No you can definitely tell that the tow truck driver did in fact speed up, because you can hear it. Both the sound of the tow truck engine and the sound of the Porsche are not sped up.
@@Einherjar_17 Yes, I'm afraid they did brake. The dead giveaway is that their brake lights indicated that they were braking. You know, to sort of warn anyone behind that they in turn might need to brake also. And to sort of indicate to the nobs that are overtaking in a built up area that might have pedestrians on the footpaths (and maybe children too) that they perhaps shouldn't be nobs and overtake someone there.
He was wrong for overtaking there but the tow truck driver deliberately sped up and hit the porsche. Both were too blame but as he has a dashcam he could have just reported the porsche and it’d have been allot easier. An insurance company here would scrutinise that footage and not pay out as it was deliberate if the porsche was uninsured. That overtake was wrong for a good few reasons though.

In the UK, the Highway code rule 168 states you should not hinder somebody overtaking. You should not change your speed or close the gap ahead. You should slow down to maintain a safe gap ahead.
The rule does not mention being upset about the overtake giving you permission to retaliate.

One has be, always, able to stop before crashing the car a head!
No argument, no discussion!
Just call the cops!
It was a Portuguese from Spain tow truck driver in a bus, he was reversing forwards towards a Porsche Impreza who was statically cruising.
Truck is Berley moving and I didn't see any attempt at braking
Kinetic energy increases with the square of speed so that part checks out.
However more weight also means more friction and there's a whole load of other variables that makes that rule of thumb useless.
@@LancesterHardwood you're talking about mechanical advantages like the size and type of brakes, I'm talking about the basic math of heavy trucks (which a tow truck is) where you can add a boatload of weight and have the same brakes. The lady was in the cross walk. The car in front of the porsche slowed to let her cross. The white dash line indicate it is a passing zone. Unfortunate set of circumstances.
It really should be a solid white line when approaching the cross walk, or maybe a zig zag line to indicate that a pedestrian crosswalk is up ahead.
Always process to pass onto the opposing lane when lane in front is full of traffic, first rule driving lesson. So unfortunate
@@mkvector9539 We don't have zig zag lines here, but the line is usually straight on the last meters before the crosswalk - we can't see that in the video, because the Porsche is in the way.

Truck driver is 100% at fault here in the light of european law. It is illegal to accelerate or decrease distance to the car in front when being overtaken for obvious safety reasons. Porsche's overtake was legal in these circumstances as he did it on a dashed line.
@@eliaszgorski989 you didn’t watch the video closely enough. The driver clearly steered directly in front of the truck driver and deliberately slammed on the brakes in front of the truck driver. My thoughts still stand on this incident. Idiots like this car driver should try punching a time clock like the rest of us do instead of looking for ways to defraud others of their hard earned money and livelihoods.
None had attention to cause an accident, but both were not cautious enough.
The reason why Porsche slammed in the truck was that the car in front had to let the pedestrian pass the crosswalk so he decelerated.
The Porsche had a bad luck and bad reaction which cause accident.
But the truck driver was also not cautious enough, cause he could have seen that the Porsche was overtaking him and assess the situation:
- there was pedestrian waiting the crosswalk.
- it is illegal to overtake at crosswalk so Porsche must squeeze behind the black car
- the black car should stop

The Porsche overtaking the truck in itself is not illegal. The fact that it did so without proper judgment and causes an "accident" is also NOT illegal.

Again, accident is NOT illegal. If all accidents are illegal by your logic, then cops should be arresting every single person who are involved in accidents.
That Porsche driver now takes the bus
The take/pass was totally legal - see the discontinued lines. The problem is not the legality but the maneuver itself along with not giving space for reentering and driving while in the phone. The truck driver is equally responsable for the speed, not paying attention and checking the mirrors.

And last but not least, the truck driver should have checked his side mirrors.
All commercial vehicles should have dashcams! If they're on the road often, they're more likely to be involved in accidents so the value is much higher. If they don't have one by now, they're just asking for trouble.
