My son (trumpet) did a head cam of Garden of Love (Bluecoats) last night at Innovations in Brass. The other shows were rained out to standstill’s, so there was no scoring, and he could wear his GoPro. I can’t wait to see it, especially the bits where they do the sinuous body waves with their heads, and “thou shalt not” in the big visual break. It’s great that they are in uniform! Lots of head cams we have aren’t.
How are you finding time on that turn bro? “Just vibes” I’m dying because so many of us did just that when we’d never let our kids get away with it as teachers 😂

You guys are goats, but curious how long does it usually take you guys or any particular soloist to get comfortable at playing your solo or any hard licks.
Wasn't a soloist when I was at BD (WAAAAAYYYYY too many years ago), but I had one in 2006 with SoCal Dream...I never fully got comfortable until the finals run....then the knowledge that it WAS finals kicked in and I nailed it when it mattered most. I used to frack one note somewhere in there =...until finals.
For me it’s a mental thing. I usually get comfortable after I’ve 1. figured out how to control my breathing and my sweat And 2. realize that my solo(s) is/are a special moment in the show. I’ve had some pretty significant solos, so it’s easy to get in your head about how well you are or aren’t doing. I’ve found that I play best when I forget about me and think more about the effect it has on the audience. It’s important to remember that the audience is on your side and wants you to succeed. The sooner you trust your training and believe that this solo moment is a positive experience for everyone, the sooner you get comfortable. The amount of time that takes will vary depending on the solo and the environment. 2017 I got comfortable pretty quick cause you kinda have no choice when you’re starting the show. 2018 took longer cause I didn’t like my solo until like the middle of the season when I realized everyone else thought it was cool. And 2019, I got comfortable pretty early on cause playing double gs and above in a solo takes a delusional bit of confidence that I’m gonna nail it. I was also at the peak of my game and had full faith in myself by that point.
