Wow! 40+ fish day! Great job with the clinic there Bob. I was in the same spot yesterday but I did not have that kind of success. 😕 However, I finally got your bait ball dialed in just before an overhead lightning storm cut my day short. There was an insane 45 minutes of surface activity with all these black gnats floating on the surface. I wasn't totally prepared to go dry fly fishing, but still managed about 5-6 cuts with the only dries I had--an elk hair caddis with one of your trailing black corn fed midges. So, lesson learned, be prepared for anything.
Crazy how things change day to day. The one thing I notice about the rig is the retrieve REALLY matters. The super erratic retrieve and pause this day was important to triggering eats.
Next time I'm out with your bait ball, I will take your advice and find the retrieve that seems to work for that particular situation.
The balanced leech was killing it for us. Lots of huge cuts.

Did you find out what the state record was for the chub? That thing was a tank! Congrats with your 40 plus fish day!
I looked on my phone and it was 1lb 15oz, so I was probably over half a pound short haha.

Nice day! Can you tell me about your rod and reel set up for the one you were using the baitfish streamer? Is that a sinking line?
I was throwing the baitfish rig on a 10' 5wt Echo Stillwater, Orvis Hydros II reel, and an SA Sonar Hover line (1IPS).
I went up last saturday and only caught rainbows and chub. Is there any way you could give me tips on location or just tips in general?
The fish really are up shallow. Fish close to the bank and concentrate on the shallow bays.
