- CASSATA ICE CREAM RECIPE Tanzanian Style || Creamy Cassata Ice Cream || Famous in Dar es Salaam!
In this video, we show you a Tanzanian Style Cassata Ice Cream Recipe. Cassata Ice Cream is originally from Italy (known as cassata Siciliana), however, there are many variations around the world. This particular Cassata Ice Cream is unique to Dar es Salaam, the capital of Tanzania in East Africa. This Tanzanian Style Cassata Ice Cream is super creamy and buttery and frozen in a rectangular 'brick' shape (often in the tin foil 'take-away' containers). It is commonly drizzled with a rich chocolate sauce and topped with toasted peanuts. This homemade Cassata Ice Cream recipe is absolutely delicious, rich, and indulgent - as well as super easy to make!
To make this Tanzanian Cassata Ice Cream, you will need:
270ml Double Cream (also known as Heavy or Whipping Cream)
85ml (1/3 cup) Sweetened Condensed Milk (*you can add more if you like it sweeter)
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
Chocolate Sauce (ideally a rich chocolate sauce. Belgian chocolate sauce would be ideal if you're able to source it)
Unsalted Peanuts (dry roast on a pan, allow to cool, then crush in a zip-lock bag or coarsely grind in the blender).
Freeze for at least 6-8 hours, or overnight for best results
*We made one 'sharable' portion of this ice cream, but you can also divide the mixture into 3-5 individual containers. The ice cream can easily be cut into portions if you decide to freeze it in one container.
We served this Cassata Ice Cream cake with fresh strawberries, which really complemented the creamy richness of the dessert. You can also use other sauce flavours (how about banana or raspberry?), add chocolate shavings or cookie crumbs. This version, however, with the chocolate sauce and peanuts is the most famous version in Dar es Salaam. This homemade ice cream is so easy to make without the use of any ice cream machine.

Hi I used same things but it didn’t get thicker I almost did for 20min if you can tell me how many min should I mix as mine didn’t turn out to be same.
That can happen when the cream isn't cold enough or when the room temperature is quite hot. It should take about 4 minutes to achieve the thick texture. Ensure the cream is cold straight out from the fridge. If the kitchen is hot then you can also place bowl (which you will put the cream in) in the fridge first for 10-15 minutes, or place the cream in a bowl over another bowl filled with ice cubes. Hope this helps!
Recipe for kulfi ice cream
I had Cassatta here in Orlando, but, wasn't Tanzania type, let try this, but, honestly, I think there should be more ingredients.
Yes it's really very simple to make, yet delicious. Cassata ice cream around the world varies a lot. Some countries layer up 4 or 5 different ice cream favours, however, the Tanzanian one is quite simple, with most of the flavours coming from the chocolate sauce and roasted nuts.
After seeing so many tasty recipes of yours I am dying to know your address ...🙂same way this ice cream
