I am absolutely amazed no one could see and appreciate the potential that the original owners foresaw as it's success future...such a shame to loose such an important piece of history..I loved it all...thanks for sharing

You are able to visit these gardens . They are free and open to the public. A great deal of restoration has gone into them

It is gone. They knocked it down. Funny that the video mentions the great works of the federal reserve and economic equity...

Thanks Ken, for the brief glimpse of what was once greatness...it is very sad that yet another fabulous feat of architecture and creativity is lost forever.
At least some of the grounds remain. Hopefully this won't be bulldozed for developers to make big profits on as well. Shame!!

I do hope more of humanity in 2024 can look past our "differences" to see that we all have something in common. I love your tone of voice, the joy the history and architecture bring you. We are polar opposites but honestly your channel warms my heart.

I share that sentiment. I have already resolved to do more listening than arguing. I realize our common values and I am determined to be a part of the process of putting the good of us all ahead of all of this ridiculous bickering.❤

❤ Jesus loves you.. Please bring him into your heart before it's too late.. These events are not from climate change.. but from God warning US the time of his wrath is coming... 😢
Please be saved, my friend 🙏

I have visited the gardens and they are beautiful. The view of the Hudson River Valley is incredible. That the house was not saved should be considered a crime against humanity.

How is it possible this mansion got torn down!?!?! People with vision are so FEW and FAR BETWEEN It astounds me. Americans go to Europe and MARVEL at all the old buildings and statues. Yet, back home things on an equal footing get TORN DOWN, or just left to rot. Then a blasted fast food place or apartments are built in their place! Otherwise great video Ken!

Fascinating! Too bad the full estate could not be preserved for the public to enjoy, but glad that a portion of the gardens did survive. It is definitely on my list to check out next time I am in New York! Thanks for sharing another great story.

Have you been to Untermeyers? Heard they rebuilt the old swimming pool. Haven’t been since I was a kid. We lived on Morsemere. 👋

Glad you enjoyed it! Unfortunately, these are all the known photos. It is possible there are more in a private collection somewhere, but for now these are all the interior photos known to exist.

I like the fact we can admire this house from the outside, without a detailed tour of the interior. It's a testament to the gardens that once existed... and what remains. I live in hope that our desires and tastes in terms of architecture are in fact getting better over time, particularly for high-rise buildings and other inner-city structures. Hey... imagine someone doing these video tours 40 years from now, at all of the celebrity mansions in California? I wonder if much of what we see here has in fact been duplicated? Edit: Replicated? Copied? You get the picture....

Words fail to encompass this man's visions and intelligence. Untermeyer was a force, and like many decent folks, the alpha is destroyed by the masses. I wish you would name the people/companies that raze these estates. Who were these people with such little respect for grace? What is on site now? Do these people remove all of the furnishings, and recycle as much as possible? peace

It's beautiful. Essentially an assemblage of cubes that rest artfully onto each other. The entrance, stairs and entrance vestibule are exquisite. Elegant and tasteful lacking any unnecessary ostentation. The gardens and garden structures are clearly the product of true erudition that was European inspired but tailored for the US. So well done it's as if Americans invented that style. Negatives? None but I always wonder how flat roofs fare in snowy weather. Do you just want till it melts and evaporates? That's an awful lot of weight on a roof. Well, my Southernness is showing. LOL. Cheers.

The Gardens were indeed magnificent - as important to the Estate as the Interiors. Yet witnessing majestic pillars surrounded by today's chain link fence pierces one's soul ... does it not ... Time apparently will always march on ...💙

I HAVE NO USE FOR PROGRESSIVE POLITICS, BUT THIS PROPERTY MOST CERTAINLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN PRESERVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ONCE AGAIN, THE THREE KEY WORDS IN REAL ESTATE APPLY HERE, DEMOLITION, DEMOLITION, DEMOLITION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALSO TAKE NOTE THAT IN MORRIS COUNTY NEW JERSEY, UNTIL A FEW YEARS AGO, STOOD THE WEATHERED REMAINS OF AN INCREDIBLE BUILDING, WHICH OPENED AROUND 1876!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS HAD BEEN A STATE INSANE ASYLUM, AND AN ABSOLUTE MONUMENT TO SECOND EMPIRE ARCHITECTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE NAME OF THIS FACILITY??????????? I POO YOU NOT: GREYSTONE PARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I miss the house itself. Even as a socialist, I think these Gilded-age and pre-Gilded age mega mansions should be preserved as evidence of the bloat and greed of mankind despite their noble intentions...
