I had a 1990 XL. Manual transmission. Did not have pushbutton 4x4 thankfully. When you're young and not much money that's what you can afford. Loved that thing, drove all over the 4x4 tracks of WA. Got hit by a semi while driving to work one day. Saved my life. Unfortunately was trashed after that.
@@bobbybrandnew3277 Being young and not as experienced as I am today (ha), I did get stuck once and needed to get towed out. For the most part pretty solid for what it was. Having a differential lock on the rear, different tires, etc, would have boosted the capabilities significantly as you would imagine.
Beautiful Bronco! Nice to see Steve talking about the Bronco. I've been watching his junkyard tv show and looking for broncos in the background. So far he's walked right by them. The tops do come off. I used to drive my 1980 Bronco XLT with the top off on sunny days. It's really heavy and requires 2 people. There's a handful of bolts. In the 1992-1996 Bronco the top was not intended to come off due to the rear shoulder belts and safety or something like that but it still came off.
I drove a number of Broncos from that era, Customs and XLTs. They were fleet vehicles. The 90-91s were vinyl with rubber mats. 302s under the hood with automatics. We got manual hubs - might have been auto hubs by the time the 95s came around. The 302 was adequate for most driving but a 351 would have been nice. That’s a nice specimen.
They had auto hubs in 1990. I had one. 302 v8. 5 speed manual. Lever 4x4 shift on floor. XL model. No floor mats and cloth seats. First new car I owned. $20k off the lot
Perfect sized Bronco. Also the 60s Scouts seemed even more industrial than the 60s Bronco to me. Always banged elbows and things on exposed metal all over.
I HAVE A 1990 bronco, FACTORY FIVE SPEED TRANS,LOCKING FRONT HUBS AND FACTORY..4:11 in the rear, and 4:10 in the front,THIS BRONCO WILL GO ANYWHERE,.I've crossed rivers, went in deep snow, and mud a foot deep,IT pulls through like it owned the country...I bought it from the original owner, who ordered it from Ford...
All bronco fiberglass tops were removable. Form 78 to 96. It's just in the late 90's 94-96 Ford discouraged the removal for insurance reasons. The shoulder belts for the rear were attached to the tops, but if you had the right tool they can be unbolted. Also Ford used different bolts for the fiberglass top to say to the insurance companies that they were now permanent but you could still get them off.
I’ve got a 1990 Eddie Bauer with the 351. The top is a pain to get off by myself, just due to the weight, but I do it all the time. Wait for a decent 1-2 week stretch of weather forecast and take the top off. I keep a tarp in a storage box in the back just in case there is a surprise rain shower. And putting it back on by yourself is much easier than taking it off.
I like to say my 90’ bronco is the best because it was actually manufactured in Aug. 89’ but sold as a 90’ in the fall of 89’. SO…that means MY bronco DOES have a removable top still. The last too have em. Still has manual locking hubs, and 4x4 shifter on floor board, tire swing hitch on back, fully carpeted as such with AC, built with 302 5.0 EFI few 89’s without carbs. And has a rare Oxford white/ dark Metallic tan Victorian two tone paint job. The perfect blend of old and new old lmao. Been my first car and have had it for 15 years still my daily with only 81k miles. Just excited not bragging lol
Ummm Mr. Magnante! 6:16 That top is held on with some easy to remove bolts and the top come right off. Takes a few minutes and a friend and your topless. Only in 93 did Ford add safety torques but those can be removed just as easy.
Yeah, that idiotic statement lost me completely on this video. Why even do a video if you’re going to get something so fundamental to the vehicle wrong?
Yup, 1990 model year with the VIN (from the HOC website) for the win: 1FM for US made Ford MPV, E for 6,001 to 7,000 # GVWR, U15 for Bronco, N for 5.0L (302 CID) V8 with fuel injection, 4 is a check digit, L for the 1990 model year, L for Michigan Truck Assembly (Michigan) and the rest is the production sequence. The Michigan Truck plant opened in 1957 and still operates today as Michigan Assembly. We got the tag, we can brag: YC for Black exterior paint, 105 for the wheelbase of the truck in inches, U15 for Bronco, NJ for Bronco MPV, T for four speed automatic overdrive transmission, 19 for 3.55:1 rear axle ratio, locking type, Ford manufactured, and DSO of 11 for Boston, MA sales office. No, the Bronco II was a three door, not a four door. The Explorer that replaced it in 1991 came as a four and two door over the course of time.
Always lock the hubs before you get into trouble. If you wait as he says its usually to late. And you won't get dirty. And people complaining about getting out of the truck to lock the hubs are lazy.
I have to disagree with you, the fiberglass top does comes off the Bronco. In '92 and later it was discouraged, the taking off of the top because of the backseat seat belt configuration and safety concerns. But you could still take it off. I owned a '91 and drove around a lot with the top off. Now I have an '89 and and still drive around without the top. It's AWESOME!!
Top actually comes off, carpet only came on tailgates 94-96 on xlt or higher, auto hubs were standard with optional manual hubs since 87, speedometer stayed to 85 on 5th generation. Bronco II never had 4 doors. Very disappointing Steve, you know NOTHING ABOUT BRONCOS
THOSE electric four wheel drives were JUNK,EVERYONE I've met with a bronco like yours had nothing but trouble with it..that 1990 Bronco your showing is trash compared to the one I have...

The tops were removable, just like the jeep cj hardtop. It was just the back half.

W for Raven Black delamination, T for review mirror delete, F for B.F. Goodrich wannabe tires
The Bronco II was a two door, unless your counting the rear hatch as a door. If that's the case then the Explorer came as a five and three door.
@@blowupbob1 I know that. Three doors in total (or two passenger doors).
@@tomwesley7884 Typical.
I know the Ranger used an 85 MPH Speedometer up until 1994.
I solved the muddy look by buying a beige 4x4 back in the 80's.
The paint just looked lumpy once the swamp mud dried.
Front end styling of that generation not my favourite but certainly better looking than any late-model truck.
You could get a 4 door bronco in the 90's..... Centurion did the mods. my 93 Centurion C350 had a 7.3 idi banks turbo diesel.. 10mpg at best
My '89 C350 with the 460 gets 10mpg on the highway. not so much around town but it does tow well.

My sister in-law has a New Bronco. It has a 3 cylinder.
Been nose sighing for 4 months straight in disappointing before I was able to even type out my response. 3 cylinder is dudu
why do people buy cars & never drive them ?? ... It's like buying a house & never living in it !!
8 bolts I believe. I've had mine off for years with a soft top. Summit racing sells them. Come on Steve, I have more faith in you than this.
Tops do come off silly
