I work for my family’s grocery store and the difference between a small family-owned business and a chain store is the flexibility to order whatever you want. Chances are the department managers in these chain stores don’t get to decide what new items to bring in. They often go by a shelf plan-o-gram provided by corporate.
Another enjoyable review. I love Tillamook ice cream. Off topic but I can't recommend Margaritaville frozen shrimp dinners highly enough. There are several varieties. Some cooked in a skillet and some baked in the oven. I've tried two in the skillet, the shrimp scampi and the Key West citrus. With those, the shrimp (which are a nice size) are coated with the sauce and as you cook and stir them for eight to ten minutes in a dry skillet the sauce melts off of the shrimp. So good over rice. The oven variety seem to be breaded like coconut shrimp. I'm working my way through them all. I hope you try them and enjoy them as much as I do.
I grew up in Oregon and I currently live in Washington. That area has a bunch of marionberry and huckleberry items. I’ve never had fresh marionberries but I’ve tried them frozen and they’re pretty good. At gift shops and specialty markets in Washington, they sell a bunch of huckleberry flavored things like honey, taffy, tea, etc. I’ve seen this flavor of ice cream around a lot. I should give it a try the next time I see it.
I think I went and died when I discovered Tillamook.... Man I just had German chocolate cake and it's better then the dang cake 🍰...it's incredible. And I thought nothing could beat UDDERLY chocolate...... ❤️ Wow it made me rediscover why I'm a dang chocolate lover .... I love that y'all did a review
Marion berries are a specific variety of blackberry that are grown only in Oregon… tilamook is one of the best ice creams… if they can make high quality, real ice cream at a reasonable price… why can’t others? And they seal it!!!
I've tried the butter pecan and sugar cookie by Tillamook and have to say I was impressed. It's a little expensive but it is one of the better store bought ice creams I've had. Will definitely be trying other flavors.
I've been ordering Oregon Marionberry jam for years and Harry & David Marionberry Preserves. I've had Marionberry Pies and shakes. I like them a bit more than Boysenberry and Huckleberry. Oregon is the only place they are grown. As others have said, the Marion berry is a specific variety of Blackberry. My stomach just doesn't do well with ice cream anymore, so I just get an occasional custard from Leon's. Oregon does do a general Berry Festival where Marionberries as well as others, are featured in a variety of jams, pies, shakes, ice cream, doughnuts, cakes etc as well as buying pints of fresh berries. It's the first place I came across the Marionberry. The grower I met back then did his own jams and we became friends and I ordered so much from him until he died in 2013. As for stores, unless you are an independent store, corporate stores are given plan-o-grams and you have to stick to it. If you want to order something not on the plan-o-gram, corporate has to ok it. And if it's not on the plan-o-gram, chances are good the warehouse or distribution center won't have it anyway.
Never heard of this type of berry. Not one to gravitate to fruit flavoured ice cream this one sounds interesting. Surprisingly I’d choose that over the Cookie Monster one. Thanks for the review.
We don't really get Tillamook either. Here, the dominating brands are Friendly's, Turkey Hill, and Ben & Jerry's. Friendly's is my favorite. They have restaurants too, but a lot of them closed down... The ones that were near me were a go-to pick as a kid as far as choosing restaurants went... Because they were "where the ice cream makes the meal!" 😁
When Tilamook first came in my area I had to drive to another town to find it. That being said it was a different Kroger division the Columbus Ohio division but now they are in my area the Cincinnati area. I have noticed they have different varieties in different stores. Jungle Jims is different to Meijer and Kroger I'm not understanding why but that's what I notice in my area.
Lol! I had my first Marion berry muffin this morning from Rosauers and it was delicious! Going to try the ice cream. Maybe heat the muffin and add the ice cream as a dessert! BTW, Tillamook is very popular in Montana. They take up a lot of space in freezer section. Great selection
I personally wouldn’t turn down either flavor. I don’t believe I’ve seen the marionberry but honestly I haven’t looked so can’t be sure. Yes Publix has a lot of Tillamook so maybe your new one will carry many flavors. Great review
At home we really like like Tillamook, however in terms of mix ins they fall slightly short, it's mostly ice cream. You won't get the same ratio like you would in a Ben & Jerry's for example. Might be a more personal preference but I'd gladly pay tat much extra for them to add more of the the mix ins for any of their ice creams.
I hope that's Jif peanut butter as well. On a side random note, there's a Jif Production plant in Lexington, KY even though Jif is made by J.M. Smicker here in Ohio. I thought that was interesting and I LOVE Jif Peanut Butter 🤤🤤🤤❤❤❤😊😊
@@TamiDunn I wouldn't have any gas left in my vehicle because I would drive past there every chance I got lol. That reminds me back in the day when we had The Wonder Bread factory in our town and the smell of baking bread filled the air. With your towns roasting peanuts and our towns bread smell, all of Ohio and Kentucky should be thinking about peanut butter sandwiches 😂
Don't be afraid to ask your grocery store to mix up their selections and let them know how much you would buy if they did so. I've had success with that in the past!
I get Tillamook Marionberry Pie ice cream where I live. If they can deliver it to Illinois I can't understand why they do not delivery it to your area unless your store does not order it. The stores make the choice as to what they sell in their stores.
Both sound delicious but I would buy the Monster first as that has lots of fill ins I enjoy. Thank you so much for a great review. Have a wonderful day with a bowl of ice cream.😂😂 yay!
So who would I talk to at my local Kroger to order this or at least asked if it was possible for them to request it? Because I have been wanting this flavor for a long long time and I have been waiting for this review for a good while and as expected it looks like it's awesome. As you said in the video so frustrating that the only way to get this is to drive for an hour and a half
I just have to say it is very ironic that BlueBell does not seal the ice cream since the safety issues started when that girl licked the bluebell in the store online , you would have thought they would be the first to change their process!
I want that monster cookie!!! I would like both tbh. Why did I think of Tullamore Dew when you said the name 😂 Gotta love being a Dane... I got a dirty & alcoholic mind 😂😂😂
@@TamiDunnI actually asked Kroger about this and they said that it was such an isolated incident that they did not see the need to add extra cost for the extra seal. They also said customers would not want to pay those higher prices just for an extra seal for such a random occurrence. 🤷♂️
@TamiDunn (05.10.2024) - I think there is a contract between retail/grocery store and Tillamook for what ice-cream flavors get carried. How many individual flavors for shelf space. Kroger (under numerous names through the U.S.) has 22 in my area of Detroit, Michigan. They had 12 in 2019; 15 in 2022; up to the current 22 in 2023. Shelf space is made for Limited Edition and a special line of flavors. Regular ice-cream flavors in my area, being carried by Kroger, are: Old-Fashioned Vanilla; Tillamook Mudslide; Oregon Strawberry; and Peaches & Cream. Those used to be cited, on Tillamook’s website, as “Featured Product” flavors. Additional flavors regularly carried here: Vanilla Bean; French Vanilla; Neapolitan; Chocolate Peanut Butter; Waffle Cone Swirl; Udderly Chocolate; Coffee Almond Fudge; Butter Pecan; Mint Chocolate Chip; Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough; Cookies & Cream; and Oregon Dark Cherry. To make room, recently, for the “[Dark] Chocolate Collection” flavors, there was a Closeout on the following: Chocolate; Rocky Road; Caramel Swirl; and White Chocolate Raspberry. Once the “Chocolate Collection” is played out, I suspect all those flavors will get returned with possible exception of Chocolate. A number of stores will carry only one of Chocolate or Udderly Chocolate. I am suspecting that may happen. A backup flavor could be Malted Moo Shake. I will see how it goes. I do suspect contracts are involved in which there is some input from retail and from Tillamook. A balance of both. I do find Tillamook pushes some flavors over others. (I can get Mint Chocolate Chip nearly anywhere. But I cannot get Chocolate Chip.) Stores are going to want common, popular flavors. Tillamook gets to promote some as well (like seasonal types).

You should spread peanut butter on parchment paper on a sheet pan, freeze it, then cut it into pieces to put in/on your ice cream :)
Susan--have you tried it? Is it good? Is the texture weird?

It always is down to money. I'm sure they don't want to spend money on a machine that seals their containers.
Marionberries are a cross between a blackberry and a raspberry. Oregon also has boysenberries.

Hi there! Do you think most stores are clearing out the White Chocolate Raspberry? I really want to try that flavor but have been waiting for a sale
That "soft" feeling usually comes from more air, or overrun, in the ice cream. Paying for air is not really a good thing!
