  • Did you know a sprinkler is not just for your lawn? George Howell of George Howell Coffee addresses the essential elements of drip brewing. He explains how different filters produce either sediment or clarity in the brew and points out that once the coffee is brewed, don't let it sit on the burner! Serve immediately or transfer to an insulated carafe and presto! You've made great coffee.

Here's something for you to try.
Since your brew basket sits on a Round base as opposed to other Moccamaster baskets with square or rectangular bottoms the sit in a slot, you are able to swivel it back and forth to evenly disperse the water.
As you have probably discovered, the Moccamaster sprays water with such force and turbulence while the sprayhead sits off center, that the water burrows a divit into the coffee grounds a bit off to the side, leaving other grounds on the side wall. Simply swiveling the basket slowly back and forth for a minute or so will help to evenly wet the grounds. Then you can give it a little shake like in a pour over and then leave it alone. You can give the basket a last little shake during the final drawdown to end up with a flat bed if you wish.
Swiveling is pretty easy. Just a few times back and forth will easily spread water over the entire surface. Give it a shot, you may find that this also helps.
Of course allowing the basket to fill up with water helps to alleviate uneven water dispersement.
    Thank you for tips. Enjoy.

In my experience .... weighing out your water and ground coffee is key to producing a good, repeatable extraction. A good starting point, for a drip brew, being 65 grams of ground coffee to 1 liter (999.9 grams) of filtered water.
Thank you George for all you do .... Greatly appreciated.

This is the most serious I've ever seen drip coffee be taken. I may just have to shelve my French Press for awhile.

I exchanged my thermal for a glass. I like the glass better. I keep my left over coffee for close to an hour. And it taste still good in the warmer. No change in taste.

I have to say, with my experience with thermos, metal ones give a bad taste to the coffee . The older types made with glass or ceramic are the best.

1- Great Tutorial!!! What if I'd like to brew 8 or 10 cups of coffee? What should be the rate of coffee grams vs ounces of water? I'm trying to be able to scale the brew.
2-Also if we increase the brew size does that effect the grind size since we will be brewing longer?

Technivorm recommends 68.75 grams for it's 10 cup pot and a medium grind (like salt). That is above the rule of thumb of 1 tablespoon per cup (5 coffee scoops). It's a good start.

I see you are using a Baratza grinder in your demo. It is the same grinder that I have, what setting do you have it at? Currently, I have it set at 20. I also have the same coffee brewer, the Technivorm Moccamaster

Aim for a ratio 1:16 or 1:17 as your starting point and adjust from there to preference.

wat een zaag van ne pee; 10 min voor koffie te maken.......smaak jij het verschil met al wat die doet????

    • @peterv6036
      @peterv6036 4 роки тому

Ja.
