Lyrics:
Old Dan Tucker was a fine old man
Washed his face with a fryin' pan
Combed his hair with a wagon wheel
And died with a toothache in his heel
Get out the way, Old Dan Tucker
You're too late to get your supper
Get out the way, Old Dan Tucker
You're too late to get your supper
Old Dan Tucker come to town
Riding a billy goat, leading a hound
The hound dog barked and billy goat jumped
And landed old Tucker on a stump
Get out the way, Old Dan Tucker
You're too late to get your supper
Get out the way, Old Dan Tucker
You're too late to get your supper
Old Dan Tucker got drunk an fell
In the fire and kicked up holy hell
A red-hot coal got in his shoe
An oh my Lord the ashes flew
Get out the way, Old Dan Tucker
You're too late to get your supper
Get out the way, Old Dan Tucker
You're too late to get your supper
Now Old Dan Tucker come to town
Swinging them ladies all round
First to the right an then to the left
Then to the gal that he loved best
Get out the way, Old Dan Tucker
You're too late to get your supper
Get out the way, Old Dan Tucker
You're too late to get your supper
Get out the way, Old Dan Tucker
You're too late to get your supper
Get out the way, Old Dan Tucker
You're too late to get your supper

Every time I think of this song it reminds me of Mr Edwards driving his wagon on Little House on the Prairie while singing it.
Old Dan Tucker is Mr Edwards song in Little house on the prairie ! Love it !
Sure was Mr. Edwards song & he had a nice lil dance that went with it. Knees high in damn near every direction 🤣. I ❤ Mr. Edwards.
I love Mr.Edwards
That's why I'm here
That's why I looked the song up.
Me too ❤
If Victor French AKA Isaiah Edwards got you here Thumps up
I think Bruce's version might be a homage to Victor.
I'm watching LHOTP right now as I'm commenting, LoL while it was playing I started to wonder if there were verses to the song, who wrote it, and make sure I was singing the right words 😁
I'll always think of Mr. Edwards first when I hear this song! 🫶
If you're a viewer of little house on the prairie this is Mr. Edwards' happy song. 😁
This was supposed to be the real Main Stanza:
Get out the way for old Dan Tucker
It's too late to get his supper
Supper's over and dinner's cookin'
Old Dan Tucker just stands there lookin'
indeed, 7 days marathon of the little house on the prairie now. S08e19 Promise to keep
yes you're right
"If they don't do the work, we can threaten 'em."
"Threaten 'em? How?"
"Tell 'em you're gonna start singing again."
Love mr Edwards
I remember watching little house on the prairie with my mom and always Mr. Edwards sing it, so hearing one of my favorite artists sing it makes me feel so happy.
Mr. Edwars always had more lines and they were also different, a bit nicer: "Make way for old dan tucker/ He's too late to get his supper / Supper's over and the dishes washed / Nothingleft but a piece of squash!
i like his vedeos
Love Little House & Bruce
May first started reruns in Finland. Had to search this song.
Made me happy, too. What a great character.
A ballad with great energy. It is pure, raw country boy entertainment! Victor French loved it!
We just streamed Little House when Mr. Edwards returns. And I knew this song, but Victor French only sang the first verse, so came here to hear the rest. 😄
Bruce con la session band ha dato il massimo...😊🤗😍😘🎶🎸🎶💘💓💋💯🌅
I just remembered this song out of the blue because we used to sing it in elementary school. Imagine my delight to see the eternally energetic and amazing Springsteen with a cover!
Me too! My momma used to sing this to me when I was a child. Good memories!
That is where I learned it too! It was a fun song.
Yes, I remember it from elementary school. I'm 50 now. Bruce's rendition of this song is second to none!
Same.
I remember singing this in elementary, everyone did!. We would be in art class and everyone is singing it. We all remembered this by heart
Were you from Appalachia? I feel like this was normal for us, but no one else has ever heard it, haha.
@@BoomerElite4u Yep. Raised in Kanawha County, West Virginia and we sang this in music class kindergarten and first grade
I’m from a little ol hicktown in Missouri and we sang this song in the second grade 😂
@@TheLozfan1000 So was I! But I don't remember singing this in grade school. Round about when were you in elementary?
@@Dolemite5194 ciao Amico! 🙋♀️🤩😍😘💘
The song hadn't started and already the audience was getting into it!
Cindy Mizelle is amazing. Her beauty, spirit, manner, and presence while singing is second to none.
Cindy is amazing
I was an adult before I found out my papaw Babb didn’t make this song up 😂He used to sing this to me and bounce me on his knee. It was one of my fave memories as a child.
I listen to this everyday. My dad use to sing it to me when I was a kid. Brings back good memories.
And a good time was had by all !!!
one of my fav "feel good" songs. Woho!
Such a silly fun song 🎵. Brings me great memories.
Fantastic take on an old classic! Nice job Bruce & Co. That banjo, pedal steel guitar, violins & tenor saxophone make it so great.
Currently playing this video at THE gravesite of old Dan Tucker!!
Didnt realize its an actual person
Good song
The boss has no boundaries when he sings on stage great stuff
He's always been controversial. Pissing on the flag and now singing black face songs. 😂
Doesn't give a shit.
He's more punk than punk rockers.
@@chrissibersky4617 america idiot
@@chrissibersky4617 he crossed the line when he demanded his patrons be injected with the experimental jabs and not only that but he demanded they be jabbed with a certain brand of experimental jabs, I lost all credibility for him after that.
Absolutely fantastic music 🎶
Grandpa Jones Lives on!!! 🙏🏽
I love these old minstrel (black face) songs!
Bold of Bruce to promote it in this day and age. 👍
Bald ?
@@SmackWaterJack001
😂
I'm writing on my phone. Google thought Bruce was bald and changed what I wrote.
@@chrissibersky4617
🤣😂🤣✌
While the context is bad, the music is still good and there isn’t anything explicitly racist in the lyrics.
@@brremsilverte.9022
The lyrics in minstrels are a parody or celebration of black music. They were originally sung in ebonics.
In today's society I think it would be considered very rude and perhaps even racist if white people made rap singing about the hood, drugs and murder in ebonics.
But I think it's funny that Bruce of all people do this. I thought he was very sensitive about that stuff.
Come sei gioioso Bruce in questo video!! Mi dai tanta gioia! Grazie 😅😅👏👏😍😍😍🌞🌞💋
What a legend....wow !!
i love old dan tucker man
I was at this concert, was the first time I had seen Bruce. Amazing show
Hi
Ol Dan Tucker was a fine old man

Get out of the way for Ol Dan Tucker

That’s the way Victor French sang it.
Haha, yes! I'm in my 60's and remember my dad reading us this book as a kid. I remember it as "supper's over, BREAKFAST's cookin', old Dan Tucker stands there lookin' .. great tune; great memory. Rock on, Bruce!.
That’s not quite the way I remember hearing Victor French singing it on Little House on the Prairie.
@@jasonirelan4487French added hsi own lyrics to the song

I remember this as a kid
Love it
Never had a drink in a good old Irish Bar, I would love to be in a bar in Dublin with a load of happy raucous drunken Irishmen listening and sing along to this
Us Irish know how to party alright 🎉🇮🇪🍀🇮🇪🍀
This song goes back to civil war it was quoted in the book gone with the wind. I couldn't believe when I saw BS did a modern cover of this!
I always like this recording from the Live in Dublin album but after seeing how happy and cool the banjo player is makes it better!
Yeah, he looks like he's having a great time. Everyone on stage seemed to be having fun with this!
Gregory Liszt, of Crooked Still. A group ahead of its time as it also featured folk icons Aoife O'Donovan and Brittany Haas.
Who else is here because of Victor French?
Me!!!!!
I'm here because of Percival Everett's Book "James," which I HIGHLY recommend. A retelling, sort of, of "Huckleberry Finn," from the perspective of the slave Jim. GREAT book.
Literally all of us.
Who?
Me too! But also james by Percival everett.
Amazing!!!!! Good sound!!!! Thank you so much! Great Bruce! 👏👏👏👍😊
Grande personaggio della musica contemporanea.
Such a legend
How brilliant is this, it makes you want to be up there with them .If you couldn't have the best time you've ever had , well then there's something wrong or you don't know how to have a great time.🎼♥️🇦🇺💋🇺🇸
You've got to work on your grammar. Don't take this the wrong way. I'm not a hater or anything. It's fine, it's just that these little things get to me.
Not to worry, I just say it as I see it and it's not as if you can't understand it. I also mean no disrespect.🎼♥️🇦🇺💋🇺🇸

Big fan!
I'm here because of Little House lol. Does this song really date back to the 1800s? I also looked up Ketty Lester because of Little House.
Little house was set in 1870s onward and you ask whether this song .... 🙄😑🤭
@@fingerprint5511 you must be a very miserable person to be so negative which is so contrary to your "peace seeker" name. By the way, if you look it up, this song was written about 40 years before 1870. So yes, it does date back to Little House on the Prarie days. Your comment made me research some history, thank you!
Yep! It's an oldie.
Mee too 😆
@@fingerprint5511 what is it, do you think they didn't sing back then? SMH
Love the look Bruce baby
Or if you were a kid growing up in TN then you were used to singing this every day of elementary school and into normal adult hood.
✋Right here.. Knoxville, TN *Born&Raised* 🙂
Being an American and being from Virginia I knew all the songs he sang on the Dublin album.
My dad sang me this song decades before Little House came around.
I live you Bruce
I remember learning this at Catholic School 😁💞🎶
Best I ever heard that song!!!
One of the best versions. Love it. Greetings Boss
he ruined the song don't be silly
Omg, 👍👍👍👍

Great
Suppers over, breakfast cooking old Dan Tucker stand there looking
The version I learned is a very old one, it's from my mom. She grew up in the Ozark mountains she Is as hillbilly as you get. She knew one of the really old versions of this song and I wrote down the words somewmore. I just need to find them. She first learned the song from her grandpa. And he learned it from his dad. Well anyway it goes way back. She knew some other old songs and i've got the words to those somewhere too. I'll tell you. When I retire? I'm going back down to the ozarks. Because they call to me.
Hi Boss !
Not Just little house on the prairie but The Darlins sang it alot on The Andy Griffith show.
Grandpa Jones! ✊ 🤠
I always listen to Andy Griffith and daddy darlin sing this son on Mayberry RFD
Mr Edwards favorite lil song he sang on little house on the prairie lol
Original Boss 🇨🇾🎸♥️🎼🎶🎷🎺🎻🎸🎹🎵🎤🇺🇲
i just did this today
Ok, I'm 65 and I've only heard this song one way and it's NOT this. I remember Old Man Tucker, just Not like this. So, my father would sing this little song like this when I was doing well at a chore he set up for me. " O'l Sam Graham(this being me) was a mighty man, washed his face in a frying pan, combed his hair with a wagon wheel and died with a teeth ache in his heel. Now, Sam Graham said before I die there's two more trains I'd like to ride. The Santa Fe and ? ... My father would keep going a little farther, but none of my 4 siblings and me remember how it went. From this song I was called Mighty Man through out my life. Dad passed in 2018 and this is my legacy.
There are thousands of versions of this song. I wrote about it elsewhere in these comments.
Fun
