He went all in with $400k grand (costing Kevin Spacey $200k on his 50% cut) on an extremely low count, that is not "losing some". He literally blew up all their money.

What a dumb way to manage a team. If I got a cash cow (as a fund manager managing trading teams at the moment I guess it's pretty close to this exact scenario) that makes me 10X what he lost, based on he claimed, you try to understand his situation. What caused him to lose it? How to prevent it from ever happening again? Tell him "It happened to me too, and learning our lesson is part of the process" or something like that. He will be out to make a lot more with greater loyalty in no time.
In real life, those who can benefit you in the long term, either self-growth, financial, support, encouragement, without being total fuckups themselves, are already rare and you are both friends and sometimes are in business together. Not mutually exclusive.
Of course, it's manufactured anger and drama to drive the plot forward.
Also, what they are doing are off of a book. It doesn't take MIT students (or any schooling for that matter).

The issue with this movie is that main character was totally in the wrong for losing the villain’s money to begin with like that. Granted, Spacey’s character took it a bit far by stealing all of his money back in MIT which exceeded $200,000 and getting him nearly kicked out of school.
He didn't just lose "the villain's money" (they're all villains here) but he lost the money for everyone on the team including him.
Also the main character of this movie is actually committing tax fraud by not paying taxes on his gambling winnings.

He knows the game better than the group, but I’d wager he needs the group more than the group needs him. Since he’s been blacklisted from playing in Vegas, and possibly Europe.
The only reason I thought of is the reason they get away with it. He hosts the group and gets them out of class, imagine being able to get away with what they were doing with a full schedule m-tr at MIT.
The person with the idea always wants and in some respects deserves credit. And often they can screw you like in the film
@@MrElmo54321 He gets them a lot more than just MIT inroads, he also was getting them access to fake IDs as well as fronting the money for the entire operation.
I was counting just Aces and 5s with a 6 deck shoe and grinding out a profit over about 18 months, but just a little side $ like maybe $400-$500 on a winning trip. 8 decks threw off my mojo though and never got it back. I do think it's still doable if you had the bankroll to hit the shoe when it's heavy with aces.
have not seen 21, but really admired his serial performance in a third of it

This is great scene. Ben had one job. He was suppose to keep emotions aside, no matter what happens. Even smart people let the one thing screw them when not checked.

They didn't need to white wash the characters here. Spacey is supposed to be Persian. Campbell is Asian.
