Hi, I am Norwegian 🇧🇻 The singing in the beginning of the song is "kulokk", tradditionally how they called the cows to them in the contryside. The text is telling a 1000 year old folklore story about an evil stepmother cursing her stepdaugter to be a wolf alone in the forrest. And the only way she can break the curse is to drink her brothers blood. In the end she sees her stepmother in the forrest so she attacks and eats her. Turns out her stepmother was pregnant, leading her to drink her brothers blood and breaks the curse.
@@sushigirl1069No, it's modern Norwegian, a non-standardized dialect. Old Norwegian/Norse is way less intelligible to Norwegians (but not to Icelandings).
It's in one of our official versions of Norwegian (we have two), Nynorsk. It's closer to how most of Norway speaks than Bokmål, the version that is used the most.
Heiaaa Gåte!! The singer actually sang at my cousins wedding when she was only 14 years old. My uncle helped the band getting started too. We're all so hyped! Thank you for the love!
Gåte is just amazing, fantastic power and energy. The voice from Mother Earth! ❤️ Beautiful Gunhild - this is what Eurovision needs right now! 12 points 🥇
I became a fan of Gåte back in 2004 and believe me- seeing them live for the first time was mindblowing! Her vocals just grabs your soul and transports you to a differnt world. Can't wait to see them live again in Oslo next month ❤
Andy, you were so right about the visuals and everything being like a movie. The song is epic and cinematic. My husband loves symphonic metal and this is up his alley. Norway made a great choice!
I actually only heard a snippet of all the songs and so going in, it was first time really hearing any of the songs, Gåte gave me all the best of a song and a performance, so amazing!
The beginning is an old recording of a traditional ku lokk by folksinger Marit Jensen Lillebuen. (Born in 1879) its a calling sound, that attracts the attention of people or animals. In that sense, luring is human-made sound to call the animal's attention, either in the form of the voice or an instrument. And that's what the vocalist in Gåte also does in the choruses, she doesn't just scream. The text is taken from an ancient Scandinavian medieval ballad, called "Møya i ulveham". The Norwegian story can be found in various versions, mainly from Telemark, Norway. Thats why they had to change some of the text before the mgp final😊
The story is an old medieval scary fairytale (the lyrics were for the most part straight from a 1000 year old text but had to be rewritten slightly after the semi, as the broadcaster was worried about EBU rules), so it matches the staging really well.
They are serial award winners in Norway, probably our best and 2nd or 3rd (depending on who you ask) most successful rockband after Kaizers Orchestra and (maybe) tied with Madrugada. This is probably their 2nd best song since they started in the 00s. If you feel like you want more, listen to their first hit in Norway "Sjå Attende"
This band is really something else, love the traditional elements - and Gunnhilds voice is out of this world! Love the message about the fight agains oppression and the fight for freedom. The primal scream is for all of us, a big wake-up call!
@@lindasynnvewahlmann7766 kult! For å være helt ærlig begynner jeg å tvile på at vi kommer til finalen, fordi det er så mange sanger som er bedre enn ulveham
Yep - Gate totally got me 100% - in my view they could wipe out all the others with this incredible performance!

Is it old Norwegian?

Kind of, its more like a dialect. Not how the vikings talked 😊

In Sweden we call it "kulning".
It's deep and dark and organic. The band is mind blowing and the singer is like a fairy of the woods.

I love this entry ❤❤❤❤ see you in my country in Sweden...🎉🎉🎉 gåte
I will put my money 💰 on Norway 🇳🇴 and say this will win In Malmo Sweden Eurovision. 2024-Wow OMG

This would be a great soundtrack for a movie 🤘
Just amazing

That haunting, dark place you were imagining when listening is just norway in the Middle ages😂

Mystical Nordic Noir with a modern twist❤🇳🇴

it's been 19 years since Norway sent rock to Eurovision (2005 Wig Wam - In My Dreams)
And 18 years since last we sent someone to sing in Norwegian.
Great reaction🤘
Love this song and performance😍❤️
pronounciation: gaw - teh ....... The song has strong roots in norwegian folklore and music. Gåte is a liveband that has been around for 20 years.
Great song ❤❤ well done Norway. Good kuxk in Sweden

How to tell someone you never listened to Turbonegro without telling them you never listened to Turbonegro.

The Å in GÅTE is pronounced like the first letter A in 'always'
Неймовірно атмосферна пісня!❤ Люблю таку музику з етнічним фльором! Супер!
Its amazing
L o v e i t ❤❤
my win 2024 Poland 12 points
You should check out their album Jygri - love it 🤩
Btw I was there - it was amazing!!!🎉
The glasses fit you very well ;-)
Takk from Gåte❤❤❤ It mens RIDDLE❤
❤❤❤
Ulveham means wolf skin. Gåte means riddle.
It reminds me of Enigma
it brilliant This and France the best so far
Funny, because Gåte means "Enigma" or "Riddle" in Norwegian
That's absolutely true👍
As a Norwegian, I was rooting for KEiiNO but gåte is growing on me❤
The same with me ( and fellow norwegian)

Denmark won in Malmö 2013, Norway wins in 2024? 😏
Ireland have also won in Malmø!
Gåte transelated to english is Riddle
The language is Nynorsk (New Norwegian), one of the two official variants of Norwegian, but with an older flavour at that.
Nynorsk er ikke et språk eller dialekt, men en skriveform :)
Gawwwte
Add an h at the end, or they will cut the e.
Or Gought- e
Ear torture song, keiino completely robbed
Chorus sounds like a dying bird, horrible singing overall
Well, then you can look forward to en extra time off to do other things. Always a pleasure to send entries for everyone 's use! 😊
thanks, definitely toilet break for me this song, i hope it wont qualify for the final@@lindakristinekjrlibraten5759
