I love this album i hear it last year and even get the vinyl the following month, is one of the best albums i've heard. I get the sense that Side B is better, but i love a lot Side A, it set a tone that managed to be extremely catchy but with a depressive undertone, and that tone swift hard on Side B, with a extremely unnerving feeling. This album isn't scary, it's depressing state of mind of anxiety and depression with a very "autumn" feel.
I have listened to this album many times already and some of my least fav songs now are my favs, but the best one is 100% October All Over, that riff is pure sadness but not that about emotional cry, but introverted kind of sadness, and holy drums.
For me is a 11/10, truly a unique sound in music in general, isn't post-hardcore, isn't post-rock, but also isn't indie rock either, and doing that deserve all the praise for finishing the band with the best gift a band can do, an masterpiece.

This is a record that I think suffers from and is a classic because of the fact that it feels like it came out five years too late. Truly acts as the perfect capstone to an era of 90’s guitar music we would only see facsimile’s of afterward while also being arguably too inspired by its predecessors. A beautiful paradox imo

Their earlier stuff is much more energetic, less obscure in terms of vocals and the mixing is better...
Albums like "Challenge for a Civilized Society" or "Repetition" are imo a better showcase of Unwound being in their element...
Gets a bit unhinged at some points though.

I think this is a good entry level album for Unwound. I do agree that their other albums are more chaotic, but this sets a good tone for their angularity.

@@delugesofgrandeur absolutely, "Leaves Turn inside You" is a great introduction, easily their most tame album.
But i guess for people like Alex, who are already accustomed to more aggressive & chaotic sounds, and want some more oomph & dynamics, they can easily jump into their earlier work without getting freaked out by it.

Blessings be to Secretly Distribution and Numero Group for allowing revenue sharing on this video.
I've also compared a few tracks from the original Kill Rock Stars release to the newer Numero Group release and they sound almost identical.

Don't skip Broadcast's debut, "Work and non-work", even though it's not technically an album, it's very very good. It's quite short too.
