Debbie Reynolds was perfect for the role. It is an ingenue role, not a sexbomb role.
    Great musical.

Ice skater from Canada recreated the scene on his ice special heand Kristi Yamaguchi and another Canada Ice competitor re did one of bogeys crime stories they were wonderful...I don't know if Gene,Ever saw it but I think he probably smiled if he did...he may even had been asked to advise on number. ..but the fact they did it was a great tribute to them and movies.

@leonbrokenhand Well, she wasn't MEANT to be a stunner. Her character was that of a city girl trying to make it big, and she wasn't MEANT to be amazing, but in Dom's eyes, she was. I don't think they could have cast her better, in my opinion.

Debbie was considered a pinup ...And she was a hard worker .....too bad both of her husband were real prices of work... one focus on his career and tossing her and kids aside... and later one gambler who went though her money she always was working...

In 1952 America was 89% white so that's where all the talent and resourceful creativity was coming from. Today America is 40% third world people so it will be some time until white people can makes movies like this again. In the mean time you'll have to make do with movies that have the millennial stamp on them.

Wow, so disappointing.... Because so much of early Hollywood was energized by Jews who knew exactly what it felt like to be treated badly, they would have very little patience for your comment. Tap dancers, and especially Gene Kelly, learned/stole most of their steps from African American tappers and Latin/flamenco dance. Gene Kelly and his brother Fred performed with Cab Calloway. Gene Kelly made sure to include the Nicholas Brothers in "The Pirate", and performed the scene with them so that it could not be cut out of the movie later. The 1940s were marked by an initiative known as the "double v ", highlighting that the USA needed to score a double victory against both Hitler's fascism and our own racism in order to avoid looking like hypocrites to our allies. Gene Kelly's politics were extremely progressive and his first wife was actually blacklisted as a communist. The concept that talent and creativity depended upon white skin....well, I am absolutely certain that Gene Kelly is laughing at you so hard right now ...with that gorgeous twinkling smile of his and a swaggering step as he walks away from you quick as he can. 🎟️📽️🎭
