Was recently on holidays and took the family up to Hervey Bay. We stayed at Point Vernon so had a couple of sessions out on the water but limited to time. Here's how I went, enjoy.
I do an annual trip to fish the bay and point Vernon area is a favourite especially the area called the gables. The best plastic we have found for the grunter is the small orange curl tail diawa bait junkies
Hi mate. We are heading up to the bay in August and will be using kayaks and launching from the Pialba caravan park. Do you suggest we head up to Pt Vernon and around in front of Gategers Bay? Also we were thinking of trolling lures as well as usin bait. Any suggestions on the types of lures?
I’ve only been up there twice so going to the local tackle shop will point u in the best spots..Google maps shows the reefs in close out front of Pialba and Scarness..I paddled out from scarness and caught decent cod, sweetlip and couple coral trout on the reef..I mainly threw around soft plastics 2.5-4inch curly tails work well
Well filmed! I havent caught one that big in
30 years living at Pt Vernon!
Gatakers Bay. A lot of nice reefs there. I've been fishing Hervey Bay since the mid 70s.
Hi Matthew.,

I’m new to off shore kayak, can I know what weight of jig head you prefer n use?
Magice grunter, we would be happy for weeks if we caught that. Melly loves her whole roasted grunter with chips and salad.
Yeah was a solid fish and an easy pb! I did keep it and fed us the rest of the stay there haha
