This is just what I need! You introduce the tune so clearly and peacefully that I can easily find my way to play it and then learn to make it sound better and better in time. You are an excellent teacher!
Got it!.. The L2 issue.... Dude, it really encouraging when I'm getting further and further along with learning this song. I'm actually hearing what sounds like music from my fiddle!!
Thanks FiddleHed!!! This helps tremendously!!! Step by step, note by note. I will be following you more and more. I've shared your channel with my instructor also. She is impressed.
I notice that you sometimes do a vibrato by pulsating your finger on the string, raising the finger ever so slightly then pressing it back down quickly, versus "sliding" or rotating your wrist and hand as is taught in your vibrato lesson. Is this a bad thing to do? I do it often as well, having stumbled onto this technique (I'm a beginner). To me, I can't tell the difference in sound between the two techniques.

it's probably explained already and i've missed it. But would you clarify L1, L2, low first finger, and so on. I'm a little confused. Thanks!..... Also Thanks for the quick responses!!
You might want to look at the videos Fingering 1 and 2. You can see the tape on the neck. The violin I am playing in this video does not have tape on the neck. If the tab says L in front of the finger number, you need to place the designated finger up the neck a little, towards the pegs. An explanation of tab reading is in the description area just under this video. Take a look at the videos I mentioned. I think they will help.
Hello! I really like your helpful video but I am a bit confused; when you say to play the G Major Scale and the A Major scale in sequence, how does one do that? Please bear with me, I'm just picking up the violin/fiddle after a lengthy hiatus and I think some things are coming back to me but others (such as various scales) are a bit more fuzzy!
Patrick, practice the two scales one after the other. A scale: A B C# D E F# G# G scale: G A B C D E F# The tune is in A major but the G will be flat. Practicing the two scales one after the other will prepare your ears and fingers for playing the tune.
Hello, again--! My current fiddle teacher has taught me how to play red haired boy but I think that I need a slow to medium fast playalong as I think I have "got it" but it's not flowing for me just yet, do you have a playalong for it on youtube somewhere..?

For me this tune is to remember because this song is originally called Little Beggar Man and has Lyrics
