Thank you so much. As a classical violinist, the bowing has always mixed me up when it came to traditional styles. I switched to Mandolin. So many people cannot break down what they are doing with right or left hand in technique or explain theory. Great Job of breaking down building blocks that will be so instrumental to me!
These scales and bowing were really fun, this make a lot of sense . I always wondered why, when I heard the tune played, it didn't look like the written notes in a book, now I get it, so on to The swallowtail Jig . I like you recycling practice Sue
this too is why my swollowtail doesnt sound quite right! No one is teaching me accents right heh I knew they were doing them I just didn't know how. I'm watching all these videos. Dude you are so awesome thank you!!!!
Thank you for all the time you given to making the Fiddlehed videos! Learning the fiddle has been fun and frustrating ! ..but I am hearing progress and continue to feel inspired with each lesson and corresponding practice session. Your videos are so helpful!!! I tried bowing with the overbite and it does translate to more grit! :) Just wanted to say thanks!

How tall is your bridge? Mine is almost 1 1/2 " tall and I'm finding it kind of hard to play past 2nd finger without applying an insane amount of pressure.
I have two violins both bridges about 1 1/2 in tall and it's no trouble for me so I'm thinking it could possible just be that you need to get more used to your violin and grow accustomed to playing but it could also be your strings so I'm not sure. Hope I helped
I learned that on older violins, the neck will start to pull up, making the fingerboard go down away from the strings. You should probably sand down your bridge to make it easy to press the notes down. You will lose volume, but it is not worth playing on a violin that is painful/uncomfortable to press notes down. Having to press down too hard makes the notes much screechier in my experience because of the time it takes to get your finger all the way down.
A good violin repairer can change the angle of the neck to get the strings the proper height using a tailored wedge. This is assuming your bridge has already been sanded down to it's minimum and tailored to your fiddle correctly
