Creating a Custom Thorned Great Helm

- What do you get from procrastination, indecisiveness, and a self-appointed deadline... whatever this video is. LOL. In this video, I started with the idea of a great helm, deviated into fantasy, and ended up with this helmet made of EVA foam. For this build, I used: 10 mm and 6 mm EVA foam, foam clay, contact cement, super glue, Plasti Dip, rub-n-buff, and some acrylic paints. You may also need the following tools: a Dremel with various bits, a heat gun, a wood burner, and an Exacto knife or box cutter. Let me know in the comments below if you want to see more like this one, from shows, video games, or whatever. Please smack that like button, dropkick subscribe, and share with as many people as possible.

Here is a video I made for scaling your props to fit you. It says for scaling masks, but the same process and basic concept applies to all builds as long as you know the measurement of the person. In this case, my head is 24 inches around the forehead:

The ultimate power move now would be to turn this 'failed' helmet into a full on cosplay. :D
😄 that's a big no thanks. Basing it off the helmet, that would be a big, terrifying cosplay to tackle.
That was a cool video. I like the format. When there is no plan you run into problems but also solve them. In a normal video we wouldn't get to see that step and end up missing out on technics that only experience usually teaches you. Do more of those please 🙏. Thanks!!!
For sure, man. When I first started making videos, I was so concerned about keeping them to a certain length. With faster internet now and a more high-powered PC, I will definitely try to include more nuggets of the process.
Even though you say it's a "failed" build, it still looks incredible. Great work, thanks for the tutorial
Version 2, when I get back around to it, will be much better. 👊
Even though you may not be in the mood or just have a crazy good idea just shows how good you are
You are too kind. My thought is that someday I will be good. Every build, every video, every day, I try to get a little better.
Yes, the struggle is real. I used to keep my failures around the shop to remind myself. Until my whole shop was full of nothing but fails and it started depressing me. SO I threw them all away and started anew. But we learn at least a little from every fail and hopefully come out better at the end. I think the lava effect could have been done if you'd made it a little more random. Otherwise, I love the shape of the helm and I'd like to see you try it again one day. With intent. Love what you do, Thomas. Thank you for letting us into your world.
Thanks. I keep a couple around to remind me also. For me, it is nice to have those reminders. Reminds me that I can always do better, there is always room for improvement , and never stop learning. Complacency and ego are the killer of creativity. Appreciate you, my friend.
Hello Tomas
Greetings from ARGENTINA, don't be so hard on yourself, the helmet is fantastic, very good level of improvisation.
You never disappoint us with your work!!!
I am my own worst critic, for sure. But analyzing my mistakes will help me to do better on the next build. I promise it is constructive and not destructive. 👊 I'm glad you liked it.
@@MuchProps Thomas
I wanted to tell you many things supporting you!!!
I realized that the best support is to tell you; I wait for the next video!!
Thank you for sharing the failures aswell as the successes
It is all part of the process, the good and the bad.
It’s a great design, i was just watching some lotr stuff earlier today. I know i have a problem when i got excited to see that fresh can of barge!
I'm telling you. You start getting to the end of that contact cement can, scraping the bottom, you forget how easy a new can opens. 😄
Another cool build! Love your work!
Thanks so much
I think the lava idea had merit, but it probably could've benefitted from some cracks and stuff carved in with a Dremel to really give it that look. Otherwise, I think it turned out pretty good. I wouldn't call it a failure by any means.
Thanks. It took away from the textures I already had on it. I could critique the mess out of all the flaws, but at the end of the day, me being critical and talking through it helps me to become better. The second pass will be cooler
Next time Thomas if you want to make it look more like a lava inspired helmet, you can use that crackle spray paint that is heat activated... That way the cracks are more random and finer in depth
There is a good idea. May have to do a little dabble. Thanks for the suggestion.
Wait...what? Heat-activated crackle spray paint???
@@MuchProps no prob Thomas... I was also thinking you could do a wood grain version as well.. because it did resemble groot's head
@@beckymurphy4714 yes... Watch the spray paint artists like Tom Wells from England
Thanks for this❤
No problem 😊
Please make Sauron's helm. It would be wicked.🧙♂️👍
That would be petty wicked.
just great it's perfect
Thanks so much
In a way the end result kinda reminds me of a cross between Spawn and Redeemer from the McFarlane comics, could be on to something here🤔 Great work as usual!
I can see that. Glad you liked it
One of the cool Animes of this season was "The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic" I think the BASE for this build could be modified to create the Black Knight's helmet
I'm gonna have to check that out.
Maybe if you had used a rotatry tool to carve in the lava trenches so it had layers? Never seen anyone attempt that before, it could be neat looking!
The texture you on got on this looks really awesome though, I love it. It makes me think of Ares' helmet at the end of the first Wonder Woman film! I could use an Ares helmet for my Wonder Woman collection! (WW fan here if you couldn't tell from my little photo I drew lol)
Great video, Thomas. Love the work and appreciate you!
Thanks so much. I gave me some Sauron from The Lord of the Rings vibes. Improvements will be made, and I will definitely take another stab at it at some point.
I love this video, it's very ballsy to put up a video basically saying "this one didn't work" , I still really enjoyed watching the process and the helmet turned out great in my opinion!
It's definitely a bit nerve-wracking to put it out there, but just like everyone else, I still make mistakes. Even after thousands of hours of practice, I still have loads of room for improvement
nice
Thanks
ive been waiting for a tutorial like this, thanks!!! also im the first yay!
I'm glad I could put it out there for ya. The template will be up tomorrow.

I don't think is a failure. I think it has a LOTR Nazgul vibe.
It's definitely a "try again later". There were several times in the build where I wanted to just trash it.
In the future could you do a complete Helldiver armor build?
That's a tall order, but thanks for the suggestion.
@@MuchProps Male a good series of videos and a lot of people want the templates. SKS props didn't want to do it as a "Starship Troopers" knock off.
much props tudo bem com vc? parabens pelo seu trabalho incrivel com mascaras...gostaria de ver voce fazer uma mascara do "ghost" do game...call of duty warzone 2...e agradecer pelos templates q voce sempre libera ...obrigado
Thank you for watching, commenting and the suggestion.
I thought I can see a Monster Hunter Vaal Hazak, medieval Dark Knight Batman or Knightfall Azrael Batman hiding in that build.
It definitely has some potential. Eventually, I will give it some revisions with a second attempt.

It's bad it has template coming soon. But no template will come. There is a lot of videos still has template coming soon
What other videos have templates coming soon? I upload templates the next day after a video release.
@@MuchProps i would has to go back and look. I know there was a lot on stuff you did 2 to 3 years ago.
KING THOMAS CAN YOU MAKE THE HALO HELMET BETTER KNOWN AS JHON 117👊😊
Can't make any promises but thanks for the suggestion
@@MuchProps When you can be king or future you will always be KING THOMAS 👊
You should have a bash at helmet from M.A.S.K. you don't see many of those.
I will have to take a look, thanks for the suggestion
Can You create MF Doom mask?
I made the Maximus helmet from Gladiator, which is what he used. So if you wanted to build one, you would just build the front portion. ua-cam.com/video/1tk3-iSqyIQ/v-deo.htmlsi=JdgkSUVyd654xppG
A successful failure? Maybe?? But i saw some ideas 💡 ..
Definitely some ideas. Take two will be top tier. 👊
