Same I never heard of the Brothers Quay but after seeing there Stylized animation concepts.. Tool or whoever makes Tools video's Adam? Anyway I can clearly see the resemblance.
Same, He complained about the Sober video resembling the aesthetic of these guys and immediately I am thinking "Oh, so he probably didn't like Nine Inch Nails either". Honestly, this is just a stylization. Its a bit silly to call everything that resembles it a rip-off rather than simply what it is, which is just a technique
I took an art class during my freshman year of college, and the professor felt it necessary to show us Street of Crocodiles by the Brothers Quay. Honestly, it still haunt my dreams. The imagery, the score, there is something very disturbing about all of it.
I discovered Brother's Quay on a Kurt Cobain interview about what he wanted to envision for his music videos for nirvana. In detail, it's truly whatever you artistically create and believe what "Street of Crocodiles" truly invokes. There is dust and nails pulling away and rewinding back in time. Rubber band elastic is coming together, and the scientist light bulb character seems to be representing the human race. The crocodiles are mother nature and technology evolves. To me it represents Industrial revolution of the Mad Scientist.
He actually probably wanted to work WITH the brothers quay and make a video, which wouldn't have been a ripoff but an original quay brothers creation. Not that tool did a ripoff though. I think that isn't true actually.
Adam Jones did get a lot of his influence from these guys but evolved throughout the years and still makes amazing music videos. The Opiate 2 music video is absolutely genius.
Its a short story about and industrial street in the city the main protagonist lived, and how awful it was. Actually its part of a larger novel, "Sklepy Cynamonowe" (Cinnamon Shops), realesed as The Street of Crocodiles in the west
Some screws unscrewing and again screwed. Girl watch screws getting screwed up. A butler steal a screw and leaves. Girl hiding in shadows. This is what i understood watching this
I knew nothing about this, watched it randomly on shudder because I saw dolls on the poster, and have not been able to shake this imagery since. It left an immediate impression on me, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such dark magic!
Didn't really expect to see a bunch of shit aboout Cobain and Tool on here just was happy to remember this. I had a not so good childhood so films/features like the Brothers Quay collection, Persopilos (might've spelled wrong), and Alice By the Czech director amongst others really helped me find myself in a sense of what was identifying probably the first thing I truly learned about myself. That being my favorite kind of art
I first saw ‘Street of Crocodiles’ in 2005, though I use the term loosely, the Brothers Quay have influenced my own art. I find the imagery beautiful, the muted grays in contrast to the red flesh within the watch has always stood out to me. And the charming gentleman, a nod to one of my favorite characters I’ve never written. I enjoy it all, such a treat for the eyes.
I found b.q.in the 80s,on some late night Indi p.b.s. show.it was the closest representation of what my dreams were like.years later there was tool, and I was glad to see that they found some mainstream attention.eraser head is also a great classic from this era
Probably would have made Kurt happy to know that one day his hitherto unknown interviews published decades after his own exit would reignite a deeper interest in artists he might consider more worthy of intrigue than himself. That's the rub and why I think you can never really ask why something is. It's also a good lesson in the power of longevity -- meaning, if you always accept excellence, what you put out, you may get back.
My parents owned the brothers quay collection and I used to watch it as a kid, it's a shame that mostly only street of crocodiles is posted online. Though it does have a lot of the cooler visuals in it.
tool may have suggested the pipes very actually alive as in it had organs, not just meat and the quay methods have to be duplicated by someone such as exactness in many stop-action claymations ect will be duplicated
John Evans its crap 2 U coz tool ripped these guys of this video has prison sex all over it fkin hell no wonder Maynard makes crap wine now Kurt Cobain Evan said its a rip off which it Is
If they at least give credit to who they were inspired by i dont think it should be a problem. These types of animations were and still are not easy to make
+agasthya dhanwada - it's worth knowing that "Street of Crocodiles" is a short story written by Jewish/Polish writer Bruno Schulz. You can read more about the story and the writer here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_of_Crocodiles
@Cynthia May I personally enjoy the artistic sensibilities and depth of the Quay Brothers more than the music video. The music video is still art, definitely a bit derivative if you ask me, but you know art can be very subjective and opened to interpretation.
Mr.Cobain brought me here
Same I never heard of the Brothers Quay but after seeing there Stylized animation concepts.. Tool or whoever makes Tools video's Adam? Anyway I can clearly see the resemblance.
me too
Bl3zzz yea coz tool ripped of all there videos from.these guys ---"""----
glidingsideways its theft by tool nothing more ---"""---

Inlove art
This is the best
Man Pixar's new Toy Story movie is a little dark.
TehYanx You are the only redeeming part of this video.
Every frame is a piece of art. Absolutely ingenious animation.

@GatorDrummer “Art should comfort the disturbed and the disturb the comfortable”
Same here, discovering Brothers Quay through my college professor was a joy, horrifying and beautiful at the same time to me
Thanks, Kurt.
its amazing how ahead of its time this is. 10 years later everyone was doing the creepy industrial horror thing
You mean it meant nothing until a group of ppl liked it
Don’t forget David Lynch was doing it first with Eraserhead.
Same here cobain

me too I came here right after I finished watching the interview
me too
So he scolded tool for ripping them off before he could :D
He actually probably wanted to work WITH the brothers quay and make a video, which wouldn't have been a ripoff but an original quay brothers creation. Not that tool did a ripoff though. I think that isn't true actually.
Lauren Prager Same!! It was the Dec 13th, 1994 interview
Adam Jones did get a lot of his influence from these guys but evolved throughout the years and still makes amazing music videos. The Opiate 2 music video is absolutely genius.
It's not a rip-off if it's EXACTLY the same. Adam did an impersonation. A rip-off tries to hide.
Thanks Kurt!!!
Worth mentioning that it was inspired by 'Street of Crocodiles' short story by Polish writer Bruno Schulz
What is that story about?
Its a short story about and industrial street in the city the main protagonist lived, and how awful it was. Actually its part of a larger novel, "Sklepy Cynamonowe" (Cinnamon Shops), realesed as The Street of Crocodiles in the west
@@dandrive3249 Also, I've heard that a movie based on his novels, The Hourglass Sanatorium, is really good. I need to finally check it out.
Reminds of jiri Barta films a bit
NIN brought me here
Some screws unscrewing and again screwed. Girl watch screws getting screwed up. A butler steal a screw and leaves. Girl hiding in shadows. This is what i understood watching this
It looks amazing
この場面、最高に好きです。
Life time tool fan here, I had no idea!
Adam Jones said it was a huge inspiration
Henry Selick by like
I knew nothing about this, watched it randomly on shudder because I saw dolls on the poster, and have not been able to shake this imagery since. It left an immediate impression on me, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such dark magic!
I can see how this inspired Nine Inch Nails - Closer music video.
Tool "Sober" video
noah frederickson closer as an inspiration. sober? a complete ripoff. Tool, NIN and Nirvana all in my top10 fav bands. But come on...Cobain was right.
also that Jennifer Lopez movie "the cell."
brutal
David Lynch was doing industrial way before this with Eraserhead.
3:00 The sounds and visuals really make me think I'm watching a cut scene from a Silent Hill game.
the sounds reminded me of RDJ's Sherlock holmes blast scene
The designers have to have been inspired somewhat by the Brothers Quay films
I was thinking it reminded me a bit of sander cohen in bioshock
I see what Kurt was talking about...
AMAZING!!!
maravilloso

lovely

AIC''s "I Stay away?"
I wish bands did something similar like that instead of seeing every video like it's a live performance
was gonna nap but i know im just gonna have a fever dream of this
I first saw this in the late eighties on BBC 2
Bright and nice
I found b.q.in the 80s,on some late night Indi p.b.s. show.it was the closest representation of what my dreams were like.years later there was tool, and I was glad to see that they found some mainstream attention.eraser head is also a great classic from this era
i love this
Cobain was right for sure! But get this... Tool Got the best MV award for Sober that year. Go figure... Big Tool fan btw!
Obviously not cause Adam worked in special effects before Tool & knew the brothers. He was paying homage to them
I miss you 90's music videos.
These guys did things.
I remember watching this on Channel 4.
Saw this the first time at a small movie theater in San Francisco in 1987.
What a trip, eh?
youtube took off the full length version :/ can anyone upload it or post a link to it??? Thanks in advance!
This is how I imagine hell would be like
In the post scarcity world we’ll be able to turn almost any building we want into theaters that only play brothers quay 24 hours a day.
These comments got weird enough that they complement the film rather strangely well.
Hahahahahahaha
I can see where Tool was influenced. Especially the 90s era vids. I wonder if they worked together ?
I see the nightmare-scape of the cell came partially from here. Awesome.
Did you ever watch that movie, The Cell? Thats what this reminds me of.
Ben Miller EXACTLY. ...
That's my all time number one favorite movie. It is amazing beautiful.
reminds me of the tool videos
This reminds me a lot of David Firth
(Also came from kurt)
Beautifully dark
Could be where the movie saw concept came from too!
I sure will. Someday.
State of Exception - (2008)
A stop motion animation movie
Que descaro tubo Tool los fusilaron :v
Why can’t we sleep forever?
I wish I could. Our ancestors hibernated
You found the forbidden Toy Story first draft.

Tool brought me here
I am here because of Christopher Nolan
Me too.
Intellectual curiosity brought me here...
billy ray cyrus brought me here. i miss that guy so much
Kurt Cobain interview on TikTok? Yeah me too
interesting

Nightmare, Nightmare, Nightmare!
Adam Jones litterally likes that
I have a doll the Quay Brothers might like
NO
It's the stalking butler.
My parents owned the brothers quay collection and I used to watch it as a kid, it's a shame that mostly only street of crocodiles is posted online. Though it does have a lot of the cooler visuals in it.
I've always loved Nocturna Artificilia. It has such an intriguing atmosphere
Post the rest

tool
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂idiot not is tool
@@duquebarbatos6592 you don't get it
@@josh8078 Yeah tool ripped this off
this little world is disturbing, yes.
Idk, you could call it ripping em off, or call it an homage. Like the old saying goes, "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"
tool may have suggested the pipes very actually alive as in it had organs, not just meat and the quay methods have to be duplicated by someone such as exactness in many stop-action claymations ect will be duplicated
Talk to china
NIN anyone?
This could totally be a Tool music video.
Alright then.
Yes, you are.... oh yes, you are.
Kurt brought me here
This is like a Tim burton version of toy story
Burton couldn't hold the Quays' balls. Just sayin'.
Por Kurt Cobain estoy aqui
100% absolutely amazing art and 100% absolutely boring as hell.
John Evans its crap 2 U coz tool ripped these guys of this video has prison sex all over it fkin hell no wonder Maynard makes crap wine now Kurt Cobain Evan said its a rip off which it Is
Please try using periods in your sentences.
Sorry nobody's shooting anyone or yelling at each other, I guess.
Yes, such conflicting emotions.

Absorb sound!
「#01 / Teruhiko Fujii + mama!milk 」
Please see listening to this music.
I have no idea what this means
I dont know how christopher nolan do it, but this lookt also epic hahaha
+Amid Septicforce Uhh...This wasn't done by Christopher Nolan.
christopher nolan directed it look at IMDB.
Amid Septicforce No he didn't, this was directed by the Quay Brothers, Nolan directed a documentary short film ABOUT the Quay Brothers.
Yeah ok, Adam Jones may of seen this once or twice.
Kurt was right
Here bc of anurag Kashyap
Same
*98% of comments about Kurt Cobain MTV interview bringing them here, including me* 😅🎸🎤
I'm from Vegas too
Found this on the top movies you never seen.
I’m from the Jacobs ladder wiki

+agasthya dhanwada - it's worth knowing that "Street of Crocodiles" is a short story written by Jewish/Polish writer Bruno Schulz. You can read more about the story and the writer here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_of_Crocodiles
Anyone else remind of Bloodborne from the gritty theme?
This shit is awesome
I'm sure there's a meaning in there somewhere lol
came here cause kurt said he would rather watch this than tools video sober and imma just have to respectfully disagree...
Mavo // Right? This is really cool and interesting concept, but tooo slooow. Sober at least makes you want to keep watching.
That's because the 'sober' video was digested first and put on a plate for you to consume it.
@Cynthia May it can be
@Cynthia May I personally enjoy the artistic sensibilities and depth of the Quay Brothers more than the music video. The music video is still art, definitely a bit derivative if you ask me, but you know art can be very subjective and opened to interpretation.
@Cynthia May And the hypocrisy of Kurt calling anybody out when he stole tons of riffs from bands & was a blatant Pixes ripoff
