Re: Tokyo. A friend used to work at Tokyo Disneyland. She said she saw people leave their children to nap on a bench while they continued exploring the park. I wouldn't do that in this country even at a Disney park. Amazing culture there.
Some of these countries are also very tough on crime, so people should be mindful of following the rules while there or they might end up in one of their prisons over what we would consider minor.
I have a Japanese friend and I asked them about the cultural differences in the US and Japan. I’m a HUGH fan of Tokyo. If a city could match my personality it would be Tokyo. I asked my friend if he missed Tokyo and he said a little, but he liked that we didn’t have so many rules. The irony is that is exactly what I love about Japan.
You can leave your laptop and backpack at McDonalds, and go to the restroom. You can park your bike without a lock in Tokyo shop around and come back both would be there. Very respectful people.
We felt very safe in Toronto for the most part. There were some very aggressive homeless who made us pay attention more to our surroundings. We literally saw a man come into a restaurant , grab a drink from a lady's table next to us and chug her Coke. He then went to the counter and asked for refill with her cup! We finished eating very fast and got out of there. We felt very safe in Vancouver too! We LOVED our time there! In the US, we have felt safe in San Antonio and Pittsburgh with no worries and walked all over for a few days.
Love your content! ❤ I’m in NYC but recently got back from Japan (3 weeks trip!) home to my youngest daughter for 6 years now. She is always boasting about how safe Japan is and how the Japanese do stick to rules. She is now married to a loving Japanese young man and just recently shared how mortified he was when he realized his driver’s license had expired… this literally caused so much anxiety and the need to correct this oversight was major! 😂That’s culture for you! ❤
I felt that safe in Reykjavik. The folks there would also wait for the lights to change before crossing the streets. I went rogue and crossed a few times in a hurry and could feel the eyes on my back. It is interesting that you all felt so safe in Bangkok. I will have to blunder out there sometime😃
I agree these cities are safe but not quite as safe as you make them out to be. For example, pickpocketing is on the rise in Tokyo and I was pickpocked there myself last year. Ditto for Bangkok and some other cities you referenced. Safe generally, yes, but crime exists so you should always be vigilant as a traveler.
Thank you so much. We are really learning a wealth of information from you guys. Our journey is going to start in about a year and a half so the preparations are beginning and you are a vital instrument in my education. Thank you.
Interesting thoughts about feeling safe in Canada, my country. Toronto is a huge city with the usual crime and murders of urban centres, but very few are random acts of violence and our rate of gun crime is down 30% since 2019. I used to say if you wanted to feel really safe, come on out to Canada’s Atlantic provinces on the east coast, but a mass casualty shooting four years ago has left us all pretty shaken. However, it’s still a relatively crime-free place where few people in rural areas bother to lock their doors. Btw, still waiting for you to take the train from Montreal to Halifax so I can treat you to some lobster rolls!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video, Rob & Allie! I had some correct and incorrect assumptions. Being a veteran, I am still suspicious of anywhere in the Middle East, but I'm glad to hear information to the contrary. I hope these places remain safe and that we tourists/travelers can respect what these cultures have created so that all may enjoy. Looking forward to more exceptional content from you both. You two are an inspiration!
I had a similar experience in Japan. My Japanese colleagues had a discussion group about traveling to Tokyo before we left and told us about how safe it was . I had a fantastic time there on each of our tours there.
Zurich....I felt that way then my passport was stolen. From my hotel room. Was my last night, I ate dinner in the hotel (always kept my passport with me if I left). Noticed it the next am in my way to the airport. After a very expensive Uber ride to bern and changing my flight, the embassy guys said....yeah, everyone thinks Zurich is really safe. There is more passport theft than you could imagine. Just my experience!
Reykjavik didn't make your list? We were in Iceland three years ago, and were amazed at how safe we felt. We were there for a week, and only saw four police cars the whole time!
In Tokyo ….whole time saw 1 homeless person, who looked like the zen Buddhist type and very clean lol. Iceland 🇮🇸 is as safe as Tokyo 🙌🏽 and such gorgeous views, people, and incredible healthy food
Hi guys. I am a new subscriber and really enjoying your content. Unfortunately I don’t think the banks or hotel chains offer much in the way of points to UK based travellers but I still love hearing about your great hotel stays. If you get over here again I would recommend Cornwall in the SW of England or maybe the Lake District or the Cotswolds. Also don’t forget the beautiful mountains of Wales or the Pembrokeshire coastline of South Wales. Best wishes Cliff
I have been to all the cities that you mentioned in this video with the exception of Saigon. I must agree with Tokyo, Singapore, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. I don't know about Toronto. Definitely, is not Miami where I live, but it didn't feel as safe as the asian cities that made it to your list. Saludos desde Miami
DUBAI is safe and Clean, as I was told. By my family who works there.. The laws in their country are very strict on crime and disrespect. Photo laws as well.
Sydney Australia should be on the list. Very safe. When I lived in Dallas no one J walked. It was a $50 fine and yes they did fine people all the time. There is one factor that all of these cities share that you did not mention and does not apply to the US.
Thank you for the helpful video! Of these cities, which would you say are the top 2 where you get the most bang for the dollar? Or said differently, the lowest cost in living?
Many years ago, I stayed at the JW MARRIOTT in Kuala Lumpur, for several months. It was an "OPTIMAL" SITUATION because it was only $50 USD per Night, and simultaneously I got a LOTS of REWARD POINTS, simply because it was a HIGH CATEGORY. So, what are your favorite Hotels in Asia, that have the BEST RATIO of LOW PRICE and simultaneously OFFER LOTS of REWARD POINTS?
My adult daughter is a travel writer and bi-sexual woman. I won't plug her article here because this is Rob & Allie's channel, but some places my daughter wrote about being safe for women (specifically LGBTQ+ women) are; Lesbos Greece, West Yorkshire England, Queenstown Singapore, and Saitama Japan. I hope it's ok that your answer came from someone outside of the creators and I wish you safe travels!
The comment that there are no pickpockets in Bangkok is absurd. Just because you feel safe doesn’t mean you are safe, and just because you don’t feel safe doesn’t mean you’re unsafe. The news plays a big part in this.
Lived in Toronto for 3 years, certainly wouldn't do any of the things you've listed as possible at many of the other locations. Is it generally safe? Yes, I'd equate it to any city about half it's size in the US, with gangs and guns becoming much worse recently, but they usually are targeting their own. Our son got mugged for his watch on the subway, there is a lot of mental health / homelessness and open drug use now, too.
getting a suit in a well known tailor in bangkok, somebody stole my wallet from my pants in the fitting room. so respectfully disagree with your statement that somebody could just leave their wallet out with no worries there. valencia is the safest feeling city in spain. we're from NYC, so most places in the world feel safer. on the other hand i rode the NYC subway for 40 years and never got my pocket picked. since then my wallet has been stolen in bangkok, madrid and paris.
Taipei should be on this list. Fabulous city and super safe. I’m a woman travelled there alone. Also super safe in Hanoi.

Especially Singapore!

It is so different, that we've been here a few months and we've found ourselves acting differently already. The culture is really strong!

Most large Canadian cities have their rough areas . But besides that, they are mostly safe.
Safe personally...but property theft in Canada is ridiculous

Curious your list of places you didn’t feel safe.
Yes. This would be enlightening.
Reykjavik didn't make your list? We were in Iceland three years ago, and were amazed at how safe we felt. We were there for a week, and only saw four police cars the whole time!
That color looks so pretty on you Allie!
Totally agree about Toronto and Dubai. I've had Singaporean friends worry about going to Toronto and I just laughed!
Yes!! This was a topic I always wanted you to cover! Thank you!!
Another great video thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Thanks for watching!

Thank you, that was very helpful. Wishing you safe travels always.

Another great and informative video.
Mérida Mexico is also very safe.
Do you ever study the law where you're going to make sure you know what your rights are etc, just in case?
Tokyo also has the best toilets
Sydney Australia should be on the list. Very safe. When I lived in Dallas no one J walked. It was a $50 fine and yes they did fine people all the time. There is one factor that all of these cities share that you did not mention and does not apply to the US.

Vietnam is the cheapest by far
Honolulu feels safe too. … especially compared to most US cities
My adult daughter and I were just in Honolulu in January, and I completely agree with this.
I’m from Hawaii. The only warning is if you go to the beach, especially more remote ones on Oahu, NEVER EVER leave expensive stuff in your car.

What about safest cities/countries for the LGBTQ+ community and women? Great video! I said “yay” out loud when I saw you released a new one!

@@brookenigh Thank you so much! This is very helpful and greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Hey Rob and Allie, are they really still wearing masks in Tokyo ? saw on your video. Great presentation. JP
A lot of people wore them long before Covid
Masks in Japan were already a thing before COVID came along.

That is so sad to hear and I'm sorry that your son went through that. :(

I heard Sweden is a safe place.
Is anyone surprised?
Leaving their belongings to hold their places in line?? Lol wow
Same as putting your quarter on the video game at the arcade to hold your spot.
No need to learn how to speak other languages??
