*LOL* The pic of the dog reminded me of my last job - telephone based technical support. I rang one customer who we had sent a new modem, as he had set it up. Usually as he told me all the cabling was tucked away in trunking but to test the modem it was just set up with the cable dangling. I heard him saying 'No.. get down.. down.. oh for..' It transpired that the dangling cable had been too inviting for his dog, who had bitten through it. He had to go out and buy a new cable, and I called him back later that day. Apparently his dog enjoyed the trip in the car *lol*
I went to an event a few years ago. There was a man who knew German aircraft down to nuts and bolts. He was amazingly knowledgeable. He'd produced a diorama of a couple of BF109's which stole the show but he was livid with them. "The worst [insert old Anglo Saxon here] I've ever made" but the best part of 170 some odd couldn't see why. Eventually when nobody could tell he launched into a 40 minute lesson about slats "always deploy your slats if it's on the deck, German slats were spring loaded and air pressure kept them up in flight". A lesson I'll not forget in a hurry!!
@Gary, I think one thing I would do is to scan each page of the small instruction sheets and then re-print them as A4 sheets to enlarge the crammed instructions. Ive done this on a couple of kits in the past and it made it easier for me with crammed and small instruction booklets. Just an idea anyway. 👍
What a great deal from Sprubox. Great value & a nice surprise. It will make for a great build at some stage. Really enjoy the channel. Happy Modelling.
Thanks for the video Gary, really looking forward to seeing you efforts. The inspiration box is not just a mojo builder it more about expanding your experience in the hobby. Yes sometimes kits have challenges but with the discord community which we are building we hope will again help modellers overcome issues and those unknown parts of the hobby you may not of tried.
No worries James - what I like about the Inspiration Box is that it challenges you with subjects and techniques, but things you can carry over into your own comfort zone. Kind of a two-way thing of expanding ideas and knowledge. And there's plenty of advice through Discord too (I've been watching the ones about the Gonville Bromhead bust over and over!!!), and also other modellers sharing their ideas and experiences with each box. So many positives!
If Gary can assemble some of the old Airfix Vintage Classics, he can handle an old ICM Bf109. I think the upper aircraft of the Mistel composite is the same Bf109 with the 2015 Ju88 and new bits. The Ju88 is a lovely kit. I agree re the artwork on ICM boxes. There's a touch of something which conveys a feel for the general scene. It's all there but as part of the whole landscape. Nice video and an interesting, random way to get a new kit. Postage to Australia's probably a bit much though! 🦘
Hello gary!it seems to me the one is a common messerschmitt kit.there is nothing special about it.i have seen better. But thats is a oppinion of my own.i think there is no bad kit out there.because you will learn and improve anyway.but thats mi oppinion. There may be others out there.the bi plane seems to be more modelling fun.with sticky greetings. Christian
That's a fantastic looking kit Gary.... Really looking forward to seeing all these elements being built and painted, and hope to see you do a nice diorama to tie it all together - especially when the Mistel kit arrives! You're going to need a bloody big table to display it all on though...!! Ha Ha! 😂
Well the Mistel is going to be done anyway, I just think it would look fun - like the recce pilot having come back with the coordinates and the Mistel pilot suiting up ready to go!
I'd wondered about him, and also maybe Joachim Marseille (sp), but neither of them are mentioned in the paint guides provided, and certainly the camo schemes aren't appropriate for Marseille; maybe the artist just took the likeness and used it for the box art , but definitely Adolph Galland with the cigar!! 😉
ICM do some great kits this looks like a fun build with interesting subjects a lot of kits in one box Gary good value for money, l think the other German officer might be Werner Mölders on the box art, l recently got they 2022 catalogue lots of kits (so l got the new staff car and some officer figures to go with it) 👍
There are interesting things on the way, for certain. There's the 1/32 Henschel Hs-123 and, of course, the 1/48 B-26 Marauder which i believe is due in November. Just in time for Xmas. Just saying. I suspect I'll be building both of these.
FYI according to Wikipedia (yes that bastion of accuracy ;)) no Mistels flew in the Eastern Front so that limits the options for the others if you do include it.
So you pay SprueBox a fee and they send you a model kit that you've not chosen. It's an interesting idea. A bit like paying someone to take the fun out of making a choice.
@@garys_stuff maybe, if I ever get to the "money no object" point in my life... Until then this company is just another middleman, softening the blow of charging me more for something I can get elsewhere, with some croc clips on kebab sticks. Call me cynical 😂
@@typhoon2827 each to their own mate - it would be a boring old world if we all had the same option on everything! All the best and I hope you keep watching! G
@@garys_stuff l'll defo keeping watching, Gary, I just think this is borderline pisstakery on Sprue-box's part. I can get the "trying to inspire modellers to do something different" business concept but packaging a kit with some crockclips and a couple of promotional beermats...? Inspirational? It's a bit of a stretch.
@@typhoon2827 I hear you opinion and saddened by it. But as Gary expressed in the video this is an easy box for those who have signed up this time. But it is designed to go with the other boxes already received. Our first box covered some basic diorama techniques and the second figure painting. The next box with go off in another direction. But the over all addition to the purchase is the support and guides which you don't get with just buying a kit. Plus as Gary said, trying something you may not of considered. If it isn't for you I can understand that but be assured they is no pisstakery involved at all.. Thank you for taking the time to comment and express you thoughts.
ICM-s Bf. 109F-2 is terrible on how it goes together (big seams, gaps, steps, warpage, etc.). At the top of this it is not very accurate in shape and detail. But what to expect from such an old kit? It is one of the first ICM-s aircraft kit in 1:48, only their Yak-9's are older (and even more terrible than 109's). Hs. 126 is much better but also is not accurate enough to leave it as is, especially canopy and canopy area need replacement. It seems like a very strange choice for Inspiration Box to build your mojo unless you like some sado-mazo :)
Our hobby has frustrations but we hope with our willingness to support our model making community and be their for advise as well as help is the benefit you don’t get with the normal purchase of kits. This is the value of our Inspiration Boxes which I guess you could say if a free bonus to the purchase.
Why is it all the companies who put of these kinds of things always tend towards making them figure heavy and old? Theyre also pretty cheap compared to them amount of money paid.
I suspect the tooling was set up to do more than one version of the Bf-109F and there was a difference in the propellers so the tool has both. A common feature of ICM instructions is the bit on the frame map saying "these pieces not needed for this kit" and there are often quite a lot of them!
Thought this may be of interest Gary en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniforms_of_the_Luftwaffe_%281935%E2%80%931945%29 to help with appropriate colours. BTW scrolling down I saw a photo of Werner Molders and immediately thought 'Yep that's the chap with Galland on the box art'.

Thanks for the tip there Paul - I will remember that one!
The aligator clips can leave marks in the plastic. I wrap a small piece of tape on the jaws for protection.
Great idea with the tape 👍🏼
Your welcome.
WoW, that is a Grand Kit. Love the idea of a Diorama with two different planes. Really looking forward to the actual build.

Those part-holders on sticks are fantastic, best tool I've bought for ages. Mine came with a weighted base full of holes to put the sticks in.
They will make life easier, for certain!
Nice, very very nice. Lol

I guess the clear instrument panels allow you to paint the surround from the front and the dials from behind, giving a more realistic, 3D effect.
Perhaps so - although you'll also be painting the needles and surround from the front. Maybe I'll try it...
Looks like a good kit to me ,I might be tempted to get one.
Hi Gary, Woener Molders?
You're gone to need a bigger turntable for this build!

That is going to make a great German (grass) airfield with tents or buildings
Make that a winter grass or concrete airfield instead, the winter schemes look really good

the second figure looks very much like Werner Molders .
Great video, I have the figures as a separate ICM kit, and it is Adolf Galland :-)

Yes, I thought I'd have to revisit that idea...
Your mystery pilot is probably Werner Molders
The winter schemes would look great Gary, however I'm not sure that the mechanics' uniforms are appropriate for that?
Quite so - also I've got a Mistel 1 coming soon and might do that in place of the Bf-109...
