The Witness views the Traveler as being apathetic because of its silence: but if it were apathetic, why did it choose to give gifts to the precursors? The Witness' final words of it not understanding is how it could never see that the Traveler's silence was its true guidance. It left them because they did not see that it wanted them to define their own purpose, so they attempted to force it at knife point since they were blind. The Witness screwed over so many civilizations including the Eliksni since it could not accept the fact that the Traveler refused to control its children and devotees. The Witness chose a knife to try and carve purpose upon it and everyone else, yet the Traveler gives the pen and paintbrush to write and paint purpose upon the endless canvas of the universe. Guardians make their own fate, and the Traveler only seeks to equip them to make the right choice.
This. This is the best interpretation of the Traveler. And this probably makes the Traveler one of my favorite fictional god-like beings in fiction now. As it uses its power not to control and destroy but to create and enrich the universe with life for the sake of it. As that's what a gardener's purpose is in its truest form. The Traveler wasn't silent because it didn't care. It was silent because it didn't want to impose itself upon those that it gifted its boons with. As to speak is to give commands, and commands have meaning and purpose. And giving purpose through edicts isn't the Traveler's way. Instead it empowers those it shares its Light with so they can create their own meaning and purpose for themselves. The Witness' biggest mistake was how it thought it was it's duty to impose purpose on those around it without their concent or request. That's why it was defeated.
thats beautifully well put your given the tools to carve and make, and put it to good use, the precursors never understood that and instead of trying to create their own world they became a eldritch being to force their twisted view of the universe on everyone else.
This doesn’t really make sense considering the races and options we have when customising our guardian as well as the location we were revived at, but I guess the answer will never be there since bungie don’t seem intent on actually making the guardian a character.

I dont think the Traveler physically experiences pain... i think it is referring to the suffering of existence, and of thinking. Of love. Of worry. Of the realization that to create life is to create death- things die, nature happens, nature is violent in its primal nature (things eating things etc). It bestows life upon the universe thus bestows suffering and death. Basically the pain that The Witness is so angry at the Traveler about in the first place! ❤
Yeah that much is made obvious but i dont think physical pain is as horrifying as the mental pain the traveler would suffer. Like okay a broken bone yeah it hurts. But what about losing your entire family and being helpless to stop it. My focus is on the Traveler's will. Not that its bleeding lol
Destiny feels so good right now. After killing the witness and starting the new saga, turning a page in the lore world, it feels so much like the start of something new. Kind of like vanilla D1
Do we ever mention the people that write the lore entries? The research into, the allegories, and other writing techniques I don't even dare mention, as I will get them wrong. Big shout out to the writers. Like a fine wood carving, they have created some masterful works.
So I've been looking into a few myths and the way the traveller is portrayed trying to warn and protect was interesting then the vision of the traveller that bird. A Hawk. Like a tale of a man approaching the water and his faithful companion he loved dearly a hawk attacking him to stop him from approaching the water while he was thirsty. The man kills the hawk to get to the water only to learn it was trying to stop him as a monster lurked in the water. The traveller itself being this hawk being injured by those it sought to protect. A hawkmoon perhaps.
I figured when it spoke of its prison so tight it can barely breath as well as demanding their gift but refusing to share it. I was thinking of the red war.
Yeah all the allegorical stories in the first bit where the time line of events from the precursors, the darkness coming and causing the collapse, the red war and the final shape.
Painful for the Traveler to think and have memories? Yeah, I would think so. That's more of the domain of the Darkness than the Light. It seemed like the Traveler was more like an unconscious being just acting on feelings and thoughts in the moment for the most part and unable to communicate properly because it doesn't have much in the form of memory. Guardians and Ghosts return to the Traveler/Light, but that's just their essence, not their memories and what shaped them. It's why when someone becomes a Guardian, they don't remember anything of their previous life, it's just their essence/soul that returns from the point when they died, not the memories that shaped them into the person they were. Hence why Zavala and Crow are pretty much similar to what they were like in their first life. I wonder with the Traveler having Darkness inside it now, will things change and start interacting with Guardians more. And will we see new Guardians being created that have their memories now and have easier access to the Darkness. As for mystery being the big part of this game. I agree it is but at some point, you got to start answering these questions. You don't have to have all mysteries solved but you should have some big parts of it solved to give some resolution when the story ends.
I think the Traveler being a more "prismatic" being, harmonious with Light and Dark, has the potential to be a good thing. The Traveler has a mind, but it is limited. With Darkness, it's mind may literally expand, allowing memory. And with the ability to learn, comes the capability to learn, and thus the ability to adapt and grow. Because we know from the Visions of the Traveler that we collect that the Traveler isn't corrupted by the Darkness, it's just changing. It will be very interesting to see what changes comes about in our old spherical friend, what new behavior it will have.
Ok ok ok i never considered it, but this makes so much sense for the Traveller not to speak! It believes every path and choice is valid and wishes only to guard and provide for those who walk. It is the antithesis of command or control, it acts only for freedom. So to prevent even accidentally allowing a word from it becoming a Devine Commandment, it says no words. It also says it is “a blank canvas to help others paint and learns the secrets of the universe” like it is a protector and a sort of teacher. It makes me think of a 2001 Monolith, but in a mirror universe sort of way. Not a black rectangle but a white ball, with kind desires and no wish for control.
I just wish we could play the whole story all together to experience it in its completeness. All the seasonal stories as side quests and the main campaigns returned from the vault…. 😪
I’m really sad we can’t replay the red war, Osiris, Warmind, and Forsaken……definitely Forsaken like we can replay witch queen, lightfall and Final shape

Mystery is what makes this game intriguing, yes that's true. But you can't just go 10 years without giving any *real* answers to the most important questions we've had since day one. Look at the tv show "Lost" for a good example of the same issue. That show was fun to watch because of all the mystery surrounding the plot. But by the end of the show they answered almost none of the questions they had been posing for years. Ultimately it left the show feeling very unsatisfying, & people hated it by the end. Unsolved Mysteries and dropped plot threads leave a bad taste in your mouth, and no one exemplifies that issue more than Destiny
A vest majority of the questions are answered The other questions are going to get answered. It just had no reason to get answered because we were focused on something else.

i think you misunderstood. The traveler remains silent because if it spoke to us directly, it'd be defying its own purpose, which is to give everything it protects the opportunity to make their own destiny
I agree it would be really cool to see the traveler and the veil become one in harmony like the idea of the prismatic subclass with light and dark being intertwined and not darkness infecting the light.

That's a stupid analogy. If you know anything about autistic kids it's that they are very good at organizing things. Give an autistic person power they will know EXACTLY what they want to do with it unlike so called normal people who can have an abundance of power and wealth and still somehow be failures at life.
Or perhaps flipped? The dark has given the precursor and hive perpetual life. But the discovery of the traveller has led to several golden ages. I think one of the lore pieces said those that discover the traveler decode the physics of the universe scrawled on its surface (paracausal power)
Always a bit mysterious is good in my opinion. There are so many parallels in fantasy series where it starts to feel empty or flat the more you know. Even if you desire all the answers. From an unknown evil, to direct dialogue with the main characters really changes the dynamic.
this isnt a mystery to somebody that studies philosophy. in fact a lot of this is fundamental. One needs to recognize that life is for all. One must reconcile that with the fact that some use life for their own ends. Crushing such entities with irl manifestations of the darkness is how you fight back in irl. Such as a ceo that is out for themself. You can accept that greed is a part of life or use work place politics to get him removed. One is an example of simply respecting life for what it is. the other is an example of recognizing life and forcing it to take shape toward your own philosophical ends. The final shape if one plans to end all suffering. Which is a goal that should not be had according to the philosophy underpinning the lore of destiny's traveler and vale. AKA the world's yin and yang. None of this is philosophically ground breaking. what is ground breaking about it is that these writers have been knowingly affected millions of people's subconscious's with their eyes on their own idea of the "Final shape". a global guardian class. As first devised by Plato the embodiment of philosophy itself, student to Socrates, dean of Plato's Academy, Scholar of all that he observes... Osiris... Phoenix of the dark age, Scholar of the cosmos, a sage with no equal... They literally plagiarized real people's lives that they believed not enough people read to notice. Thats why i didn't buy the final shape. I bought everything else though. Bungie believed with bungie magic they could forge their own destiny and push the world towards its final shape as their customers. Philosophy is not for business. If you use it that way it will fight back. Just like the light. Try to control the light and hive light bearers show up. Its true in real life to. One cant control or commune with the light. Only follow its mysterious messages and puzzles. One can commune with their own anger, inadequacy, weakness, strength, ego these are all manifestations of the darkness. not to be avoided but not to be left unchecked. the darkness unlike the light must be controlled by the user for it to be responsible. Because darkness unchecked in irl is in the news every day. Dont be part of the problem. Be part of the solution. Bungie devs got fired cuz they failed to respect the destiny community for what it was. They wanted us to be E-sports players. We wanted to ride on a sparrow while dancing. these things can't co-exist. So the layoffs were justified.
@EvazeOfficial Thank you for this video! I felt you directed some words to me, and I felt awesome for that, so thanks for that, too. Yes I know Bungie is using the Traveler as the main artifact for the story of Destiny and they will keep trying to maintain a mystery for a long time using it as a basis for Destiny 3 and so forth. However, I feel that an answer is needed soon because, as many people feel, this might be the last Destiny campaign they will want to play ever. That would have been a good closer for the saga and a new beginning with a better and more intimate knowledge and understanding of the Traveler. A good manifestation of the Traveler as a character that can interact and have some intelligent conversation, and share all of that knowledge would be a great pay off for the players who, as me, were there even before day 1. Until then, I'll be watching any updates on it through your amazing videos, which have guided me through the story of Destiny all of these years. Keep them coming!
There's a lore piece too about how the precursor tried to change the traveler before with the veil amd corrupted it, and it left the corruption behind. I always wondered why the traveler was damaged on its underside
two pieces of one whole... the witness and the precursors being the first knife held in the winnower's hands... and us guardians being the first shield held within the gardeners hands? its all a damn mystery
Does anyone else think that the reason the Traveler visited all those worlds before and then leaving. Was just the Traveler trying to find guardians capable of protecting it? Because the Traveler has been running this whole time until it found us. Us that are capable of killing gods and protecting the Traveler from death.
I won't lie, the Traveler reminds me of the Emperor of Mankind in some ways, like in how it doesn't want to be worshipped as a god, how even in its state, it still tries to help those under its protection and care, and even how it sees itself as a "Lighthouse". Granted, there aren't many similarities between the Emperor and the Traveler, but I would not be surprised if Bungie took SOME inspiration from Warhammer 40k for the Destiny universe, especially with the Traveler.
The traveler is the manifestation of a social memory complex who exist in a higher dimension. Like a 6D or 7D entity. The ghost are sparks or pieces of the traveler and each ghost is an individual part of that social memory complex. Destiny is very very esoteric in its lore.
I get the feeling Ikora has always understood the Traveller far better than Zava. She seens to think the Traveller has given us the Gifts to do what needs to be done while Zavalar seemed to expect the Traveller to come in as a Holy Avatar smitting enemies left and right. And it hasn't, which has led to crisis of Faith.

This kind of reminds me of a syfy twist on biblical lore in a way. I think the Traveler is some sort of creator being, perhaps something out of the big bang
I knew nothing about the game until recently and was really surprised to see that the story being so similar to everything I know in the spiritual world as well as the true cosmic knowledge I learnt for the past years. The Traveler is the cosmic consciousness (the Source) which we are all part of. The ghost is our soul. Darkness are also souls that left the Source to explore the universe but they went too far and forgot their origins, but left with the instinct to follow the light in order to return to Source. The writer must have been much inspired by these spiritual and cosmic knowledge knowingly or unknowingly.
Why do I see the Traveler's busted bottom part and can't help but feel that was the part that was attached to the veil? It almost looks like the traveler was meant to sit atop the veil and the Veil was the pedestal the Traveler was meant to sit on... This whole thing keeps making me feel like the set was heart and mind.
I'm confused. A friend of mine has recently finished The Final Shape, and he said the Traveller had AIDS. It doesn't mention anything about AIDS in this video. Can someone help me understand this, please?
man, hearing the dialogue in game, hearing the way the traveler is describes. I can't help but see someone who is autistic and/or an introvert, or on the spectrum, who sees and feels and thinks differently, but can't *say* because they're so anxious and scared that to try and make others 'see' through words is.. painful, literally. I struggle with it constantly, as someone with autism, to help people who are neurotypical understand how different the world is through the eyes of someone whose neurodivergent. im honestly glad the traveler wasn't some omnipotent deity with an agenda, or a scheming charlatan using us like a bully who hides behind his mother's legs. I feel.. pity, for the traveler. I wish we could've helped it sooner. I hope some day we can speak more directly with it, and maybe offer it comfort, instead of worship and praise.
I think the winnower is the veil , the gardener is the traveller , both were two parts of a great machine a terraformer.I think over a millennia each developed independant thought and sought to be free from each other so they played what they called the game of flowers until eventually they created the first knife , designed to be used separate them both ( hence the huge scar on the traveller
I've always felt that the concepts of Light, Darkness, the Traveler, and the Veil in the Destiny Universe seem somewhat artificial. Light and Darkness don't originate from these entities; rather, they merely harness these forces and share their paracausal powers with their followers, turning them into abilities for their respective factions. Light and Darkness are just two among many universal laws that shape reality. Every physical universe or immaterial domain contains pairs of counteracting forces that balance each other, contributing to the creation of causality, or cause and effect. The Destiny Universe mirrors our real-life universe, which is heading toward its eventual death and decay, known as Heat Death. This occurs when the universe stops forming new stars, leaving only darkness in the void of space. Modern science, limited by our current understanding and technology, estimates our universe to be around 14 billion years old. However, this might be a fraction of its true age, as even our most powerful telescopes can only observe a small part of what is called the "Observable Universe." Given this limitation, it’s speculative to determine the exact age of both our universe and the Destiny-verse. In the Destiny-verse, there must have been primordial races and ancient civilizations responsible for creating what once was a single entity of Light and Darkness. They could have created artifacts or vessels to stimulate creation and destruction, thus slowing down the death of their reality. This reality is inhabited by various races, including the god-like race that created it. The Witness, a central figure, was searching for the meaning of its existence while planning to halt the death of reality by freezing it in a moment of time what it called The Final Shape. Now that the Traveler (Light) has merged with the Veil (Darkness), as was destined, it has triggered a beacon deep in space, potentially alerting its creators. There's a proverb: "Once was lost, but now is found." Any logical being or entity would seek to reclaim what was lost or die trying. Perhaps, in ancient times, when the Traveler and the Veil were one, they uplifted countless species across the universe, nurturing primitive life and destroying malignant forces. However, something might have caused their separation into individual entities, representing Light and Dark. As with any ancient and vast universe, aside from countless species that it helps uplift, countless more may have already uplifted themselves without external influence in time, and the vastness of the universe means that traveling from one location to another takes time, and cultivating races also takes time. So as the original entity of light and darkness was doing its job to uplift life, those who have uplifted themselves or those races that are old and powerful enough to carry themselves must have encountered the original entity of light and dark at some point in time, probably caused the separation it the first place. It was worth noting in the origin story of the witness where it crashed land on a desert planet it had already received enough physical damage as seen on its hull, which caused it to sleep through eons until it was found on the planet with living humanoid inhabitants which was the first race uplifted by the Traveler as a separate entity, emerged. However, due to the Traveler's incomplete nature, it couldn't provide proper guidance to this race and others that followed soon, leading to misunderstandings twisted philosophies, and the eventual rise of the Witness.

Yeah its interesting but I think its pretty obvious that the traveler isn't the most important part of it. The gardener and the winnower are the most important. I think it appears that the traveler is the embodiment of the new rules the gardener wanted to put into the flower game. What we're seeing as the universe is simple the board on which the flower game has been played countless times. The gardener and the winnower are playing the game out just as they always have, only this time with some modified house rules that the gardener put into place. What we see as the dark is nothing more than the winnower trying to make its point to the garderner. That even if you add in these new rules that the final shape of the game is still going to get to the same point, its just going to take much longer to do it and cause a hell of a lot more pain in the process. This is the concept of life and entropy. Entropy WILL win in the end, it cannot "not" win. It has to win because thats just how the universe works. Everything will dilute down until everything is equal. Flat. A final shape of things, where nothing further can happen because all that could happen has happened. Some people refer to it as the heat death of the universe. The traveler is the disruptive force put forward by the gardener. The witness wasn't a god of any sort, it was just an expression of entropy that it took upon itself. The winnower did not give it any sort of direction, it didn't influence it at all. It doesn't have to. Its entropy, it need not DO anything because by the simple laws of reality it WILL win in the end. The witness and its people mistook that simple fact as being told to take some sort of action. Thus the witness being born and going on its quest to commit the final shape. The traveler only knows that its part of the game, but it has seen so much and exists on a higher level than anything else around it. So when it shows up somewhere and starts doing its thing its confused as to why the little beings want to worship it. It realizes that if it were to just directly communicate, its words would become absolute law and take any semblance of personal choice out of the equation for whoever heard it speak. It does appear as a god to pretty much everything except itself. It understands enough to know that by taking direct action it runs the risk of causing damage and removing free will. It knows it NEEDS to on occassion but thats why it does it vaguely so that there is at least some interpretation to what its doing, again allowing free will to be a part of what is going on. Fact is its not a god, its just a part of the game like anything else, it just happens to be able to see way more of the board at once than we can. Ultimately our struggles are a moot point, sure we can fight against it but the winnower... aka entropy will win. You cannot avoid it, you cannot fight it. You can drag it out as long as you like but it has no concept of time, no concept of anything other than that it will win because it HAS to win because there is no other possible way for things to happen. Entropy wins, bottom line 100% of the time, nothing anyone, not even the traveler can do about it. Destiny and all of its story so far points to that fact. There are no answers, there is only entropy and how long we feel like we can fight against it, but ultimately the struggle means nothing because in the end it wins and the game resets and they do it all over again. That might seem depressing to some but I think thats the entire point. Destiny isn't a name chosen arbitrarily. It defines the entire concept. Our Destiny is to struggle against entropy knowing full damn well it will win. Same thing applies to the actual universe. We understand generally enough about the real universe to reach the same conclusion. In the end... entropy wins. We probably won't be around to see it, nothing will be. So the real question it puts forward is that since we know this is going to happen, it is up to each of us on an individual level to find a reason to struggle to begin with. Love, family.. wealth.. memory... whatever it is that gets you out of bed in the morning knowing you sit upon a spinning ball of dirt that itself is going to be destroyed by our star.. which in turn will die... in which our galaxy will die.. in which our super cluster will die... in which the universe itself.. will die... all the while entropy simply sits and waits.. watches.. with little or no interest to anything its seeing. Just sitting there watching us struggle, probably thinks its cute. When death smiles at you... all you can do is smile back, give it the finger and charge that prismatic meter. I say if we're all fucked anyways might as well make as big of an ending as possible.

The Traveler is an AI. Compared to a human I would say the traveler has an “Autistic” personality. Good in specific, limited aspects but a child-level when it comes to empathy and wisdom.
The traveler to me is like our God Jesus Christ, a God that gives light and love and peace and happiness. They are almost one and the same, some people may not see it this way but the traveler resembles a loving God and is why I love playing this game, it gives you purpose
I'm sorry but wasn't your god also responsible for wiping out all mankind because it thought life on Earth needed a soft reset? Additionally weren't a huge number of absolutely horrific acts committed in its name, like the Inquisitions, Crusades, and Witch Hunts? That's all the exact opposite of "love, peace, and happiness."
Just wondering if it is The Gardener speaking to the Traveler instead of The Traveler speaking about itself? The sword also indicates that The Traveler has learned to weird Darkness but in self defense, to protect the garden and to speak.
We are the sword in that allegory. The traveler was drowning. We jump in to try to save it like it tried to save us and it reaches out and grasps a sword using its last strength to help us win.
In my opinion I think the Destiny story would've been a lot better if the Traveler was the bad one and the power it gave us was never suppose to be our's and the god's that were killed were never suppose to be killed.

The Traveler wasn't silent because it didn't care. It was silent because it didn't want to impose itself upon those that it gifted its boons with. As to speak is to give commands, and commands have meaning and purpose. And giving purpose through edicts isn't the Traveler's way. Instead it empowers those it shares its Light with so they can create their own meaning and purpose for themselves. The Witness' biggest mistake was how it thought it was it's duty to impose purpose on those around it without their concent or request. That's why it was defeated.

I dont think the Traveler physically experiences pain... i think it is referring to the suffering of existence, and of thinking. Of love. Of worry. Of the realization that to create life is to create death- things die, nature happens, nature is violent in its primal nature (things eating things etc). It bestows life upon the universe thus bestows suffering and death. Basically the pain that The Witness is so angry at the Traveler about in the first place! ❤

Destiny feels so good right now. After killing the witness and starting the new saga, turning a page in the lore world, it feels so much like the start of something new. Kind of like vanilla D1
Do we ever mention the people that write the lore entries? The research into, the allegories, and other writing techniques I don't even dare mention, as I will get them wrong. Big shout out to the writers. Like a fine wood carving, they have created some masterful works.
So I've been looking into a few myths and the way the traveller is portrayed trying to warn and protect was interesting then the vision of the traveller that bird. A Hawk. Like a tale of a man approaching the water and his faithful companion he loved dearly a hawk attacking him to stop him from approaching the water while he was thirsty. The man kills the hawk to get to the water only to learn it was trying to stop him as a monster lurked in the water. The traveller itself being this hawk being injured by those it sought to protect. A hawkmoon perhaps.

Yeah all the allegorical stories in the first bit where the time line of events from the precursors, the darkness coming and causing the collapse, the red war and the final shape.
Painful for the Traveler to think and have memories? Yeah, I would think so. That's more of the domain of the Darkness than the Light. It seemed like the Traveler was more like an unconscious being just acting on feelings and thoughts in the moment for the most part and unable to communicate properly because it doesn't have much in the form of memory. Guardians and Ghosts return to the Traveler/Light, but that's just their essence, not their memories and what shaped them. It's why when someone becomes a Guardian, they don't remember anything of their previous life, it's just their essence/soul that returns from the point when they died, not the memories that shaped them into the person they were. Hence why Zavala and Crow are pretty much similar to what they were like in their first life.
I wonder with the Traveler having Darkness inside it now, will things change and start interacting with Guardians more. And will we see new Guardians being created that have their memories now and have easier access to the Darkness.
As for mystery being the big part of this game. I agree it is but at some point, you got to start answering these questions. You don't have to have all mysteries solved but you should have some big parts of it solved to give some resolution when the story ends.
I think the Traveler being a more "prismatic" being, harmonious with Light and Dark, has the potential to be a good thing. The Traveler has a mind, but it is limited. With Darkness, it's mind may literally expand, allowing memory. And with the ability to learn, comes the capability to learn, and thus the ability to adapt and grow. Because we know from the Visions of the Traveler that we collect that the Traveler isn't corrupted by the Darkness, it's just changing.
It will be very interesting to see what changes comes about in our old spherical friend, what new behavior it will have.
Ok ok ok i never considered it, but this makes so much sense for the Traveller not to speak! It believes every path and choice is valid and wishes only to guard and provide for those who walk. It is the antithesis of command or control, it acts only for freedom. So to prevent even accidentally allowing a word from it becoming a Devine Commandment, it says no words.
It also says it is “a blank canvas to help others paint and learns the secrets of the universe” like it is a protector and a sort of teacher. It makes me think of a 2001 Monolith, but in a mirror universe sort of way. Not a black rectangle but a white ball, with kind desires and no wish for control.
I just wish we could play the whole story all together to experience it in its completeness. All the seasonal stories as side quests and the main campaigns returned from the vault…. 😪

Mystery is what makes this game intriguing, yes that's true. But you can't just go 10 years without giving any *real* answers to the most important questions we've had since day one.
Look at the tv show "Lost" for a good example of the same issue. That show was fun to watch because of all the mystery surrounding the plot. But by the end of the show they answered almost none of the questions they had been posing for years. Ultimately it left the show feeling very unsatisfying, & people hated it by the end.
Unsolved Mysteries and dropped plot threads leave a bad taste in your mouth, and no one exemplifies that issue more than Destiny

this isnt a mystery to somebody that studies philosophy. in fact a lot of this is fundamental. One needs to recognize that life is for all. One must reconcile that with the fact that some use life for their own ends. Crushing such entities with irl manifestations of the darkness is how you fight back in irl. Such as a ceo that is out for themself. You can accept that greed is a part of life or use work place politics to get him removed. One is an example of simply respecting life for what it is. the other is an example of recognizing life and forcing it to take shape toward your own philosophical ends. The final shape if one plans to end all suffering. Which is a goal that should not be had according to the philosophy underpinning the lore of destiny's traveler and vale. AKA the world's yin and yang. None of this is philosophically ground breaking. what is ground breaking about it is that these writers have been knowingly affected millions of people's subconscious's with their eyes on their own idea of the "Final shape". a global guardian class. As first devised by Plato the embodiment of philosophy itself, student to Socrates, dean of Plato's Academy, Scholar of all that he observes... Osiris... Phoenix of the dark age, Scholar of the cosmos, a sage with no equal... They literally plagiarized real people's lives that they believed not enough people read to notice. Thats why i didn't buy the final shape. I bought everything else though. Bungie believed with bungie magic they could forge their own destiny and push the world towards its final shape as their customers. Philosophy is not for business. If you use it that way it will fight back. Just like the light. Try to control the light and hive light bearers show up. Its true in real life to. One cant control or commune with the light. Only follow its mysterious messages and puzzles. One can commune with their own anger, inadequacy, weakness, strength, ego these are all manifestations of the darkness. not to be avoided but not to be left unchecked. the darkness unlike the light must be controlled by the user for it to be responsible. Because darkness unchecked in irl is in the news every day. Dont be part of the problem. Be part of the solution. Bungie devs got fired cuz they failed to respect the destiny community for what it was. They wanted us to be E-sports players. We wanted to ride on a sparrow while dancing. these things can't co-exist. So the layoffs were justified.

Yes I know Bungie is using the Traveler as the main artifact for the story of Destiny and they will keep trying to maintain a mystery for a long time using it as a basis for Destiny 3 and so forth. However, I feel that an answer is needed soon because, as many people feel, this might be the last Destiny campaign they will want to play ever. That would have been a good closer for the saga and a new beginning with a better and more intimate knowledge and understanding of the Traveler. A good manifestation of the Traveler as a character that can interact and have some intelligent conversation, and share all of that knowledge would be a great pay off for the players who, as me, were there even before day 1. Until then, I'll be watching any updates on it through your amazing videos, which have guided me through the story of Destiny all of these years. Keep them coming!

Does anyone else think that the reason the Traveler visited all those worlds before and then leaving. Was just the Traveler trying to find guardians capable of protecting it? Because the Traveler has been running this whole time until it found us. Us that are capable of killing gods and protecting the Traveler from death.
I won't lie, the Traveler reminds me of the Emperor of Mankind in some ways, like in how it doesn't want to be worshipped as a god, how even in its state, it still tries to help those under its protection and care, and even how it sees itself as a "Lighthouse". Granted, there aren't many similarities between the Emperor and the Traveler, but I would not be surprised if Bungie took SOME inspiration from Warhammer 40k for the Destiny universe, especially with the Traveler.

The traveler is the manifestation of a social memory complex who exist in a higher dimension. Like a 6D or 7D entity. The ghost are sparks or pieces of the traveler and each ghost is an individual part of that social memory complex. Destiny is very very esoteric in its lore.
I get the feeling Ikora has always understood the Traveller far better than Zava. She seens to think the Traveller has given us the Gifts to do what needs to be done while Zavalar seemed to expect the Traveller to come in as a Holy Avatar smitting enemies left and right.

I knew nothing about the game until recently and was really surprised to see that the story being so similar to everything I know in the spiritual world as well as the true cosmic knowledge I learnt for the past years. The Traveler is the cosmic consciousness (the Source) which we are all part of. The ghost is our soul. Darkness are also souls that left the Source to explore the universe but they went too far and forgot their origins, but left with the instinct to follow the light in order to return to Source. The writer must have been much inspired by these spiritual and cosmic knowledge knowingly or unknowingly.

I can't help but see someone who is autistic and/or an introvert, or on the spectrum, who sees and feels and thinks differently, but can't *say* because they're so anxious and scared that to try and make others 'see' through words is.. painful, literally. I struggle with it constantly, as someone with autism, to help people who are neurotypical understand how different the world is through the eyes of someone whose neurodivergent.

I've always felt that the concepts of Light, Darkness, the Traveler, and the Veil in the Destiny Universe seem somewhat artificial. Light and Darkness don't originate from these entities; rather, they merely harness these forces and share their paracausal powers with their followers, turning them into abilities for their respective factions.
Light and Darkness are just two among many universal laws that shape reality. Every physical universe or immaterial domain contains pairs of counteracting forces that balance each other, contributing to the creation of causality, or cause and effect.
The Destiny Universe mirrors our real-life universe, which is heading toward its eventual death and decay, known as Heat Death. This occurs when the universe stops forming new stars, leaving only darkness in the void of space. Modern science, limited by our current understanding and technology, estimates our universe to be around 14 billion years old. However, this might be a fraction of its true age, as even our most powerful telescopes can only observe a small part of what is called the "Observable Universe." Given this limitation, it’s speculative to determine the exact age of both our universe and the Destiny-verse.
In the Destiny-verse, there must have been primordial races and ancient civilizations responsible for creating what once was a single entity of Light and Darkness. They could have created artifacts or vessels to stimulate creation and destruction, thus slowing down the death of their reality. This reality is inhabited by various races, including the god-like race that created it. The Witness, a central figure, was searching for the meaning of its existence while planning to halt the death of reality by freezing it in a moment of time what it called The Final Shape.
Now that the Traveler (Light) has merged with the Veil (Darkness), as was destined, it has triggered a beacon deep in space, potentially alerting its creators. There's a proverb: "Once was lost, but now is found." Any logical being or entity would seek to reclaim what was lost or die trying. Perhaps, in ancient times, when the Traveler and the Veil were one, they uplifted countless species across the universe, nurturing primitive life and destroying malignant forces. However, something might have caused their separation into individual entities, representing Light and Dark. As with any ancient and vast universe, aside from countless species that it helps uplift, countless more may have already uplifted themselves without external influence in time, and the vastness of the universe means that traveling from one location to another takes time, and cultivating races also takes time. So as the original entity of light and darkness was doing its job to uplift life, those who have uplifted themselves or those races that are old and powerful enough to carry themselves must have encountered the original entity of light and dark at some point in time, probably caused the separation it the first place. It was worth noting in the origin story of the witness where it crashed land on a desert planet it had already received enough physical damage as seen on its hull, which caused it to sleep through eons until it was found on the planet with living humanoid inhabitants which was the first race uplifted by the Traveler as a separate entity, emerged. However, due to the Traveler's incomplete nature, it couldn't provide proper guidance to this race and others that followed soon, leading to misunderstandings twisted philosophies, and the eventual rise of the Witness.

Yeah its interesting but I think its pretty obvious that the traveler isn't the most important part of it. The gardener and the winnower are the most important. I think it appears that the traveler is the embodiment of the new rules the gardener wanted to put into the flower game. What we're seeing as the universe is simple the board on which the flower game has been played countless times. The gardener and the winnower are playing the game out just as they always have, only this time with some modified house rules that the gardener put into place. What we see as the dark is nothing more than the winnower trying to make its point to the garderner. That even if you add in these new rules that the final shape of the game is still going to get to the same point, its just going to take much longer to do it and cause a hell of a lot more pain in the process.
This is the concept of life and entropy. Entropy WILL win in the end, it cannot "not" win. It has to win because thats just how the universe works. Everything will dilute down until everything is equal. Flat. A final shape of things, where nothing further can happen because all that could happen has happened. Some people refer to it as the heat death of the universe.
The traveler is the disruptive force put forward by the gardener. The witness wasn't a god of any sort, it was just an expression of entropy that it took upon itself. The winnower did not give it any sort of direction, it didn't influence it at all. It doesn't have to. Its entropy, it need not DO anything because by the simple laws of reality it WILL win in the end. The witness and its people mistook that simple fact as being told to take some sort of action. Thus the witness being born and going on its quest to commit the final shape.
The traveler only knows that its part of the game, but it has seen so much and exists on a higher level than anything else around it. So when it shows up somewhere and starts doing its thing its confused as to why the little beings want to worship it. It realizes that if it were to just directly communicate, its words would become absolute law and take any semblance of personal choice out of the equation for whoever heard it speak. It does appear as a god to pretty much everything except itself. It understands enough to know that by taking direct action it runs the risk of causing damage and removing free will. It knows it NEEDS to on occassion but thats why it does it vaguely so that there is at least some interpretation to what its doing, again allowing free will to be a part of what is going on.
Fact is its not a god, its just a part of the game like anything else, it just happens to be able to see way more of the board at once than we can. Ultimately our struggles are a moot point, sure we can fight against it but the winnower... aka entropy will win. You cannot avoid it, you cannot fight it. You can drag it out as long as you like but it has no concept of time, no concept of anything other than that it will win because it HAS to win because there is no other possible way for things to happen. Entropy wins, bottom line 100% of the time, nothing anyone, not even the traveler can do about it.
Destiny and all of its story so far points to that fact. There are no answers, there is only entropy and how long we feel like we can fight against it, but ultimately the struggle means nothing because in the end it wins and the game resets and they do it all over again. That might seem depressing to some but I think thats the entire point. Destiny isn't a name chosen arbitrarily. It defines the entire concept. Our Destiny is to struggle against entropy knowing full damn well it will win. Same thing applies to the actual universe. We understand generally enough about the real universe to reach the same conclusion. In the end... entropy wins. We probably won't be around to see it, nothing will be. So the real question it puts forward is that since we know this is going to happen, it is up to each of us on an individual level to find a reason to struggle to begin with. Love, family.. wealth.. memory... whatever it is that gets you out of bed in the morning knowing you sit upon a spinning ball of dirt that itself is going to be destroyed by our star.. which in turn will die... in which our galaxy will die.. in which our super cluster will die... in which the universe itself.. will die... all the while entropy simply sits and waits.. watches.. with little or no interest to anything its seeing. Just sitting there watching us struggle, probably thinks its cute.
When death smiles at you... all you can do is smile back, give it the finger and charge that prismatic meter. I say if we're all fucked anyways might as well make as big of an ending as possible.

The Traveler is an AI. Compared to a human I would say the traveler has an “Autistic” personality. Good in specific, limited aspects but a child-level when it comes to empathy and wisdom.

The traveler to me is like our God Jesus Christ, a God that gives light and love and peace and happiness. They are almost one and the same, some people may not see it this way but the traveler resembles a loving God and is why I love playing this game, it gives you purpose

I'm sorry but wasn't your god also responsible for wiping out all mankind because it thought life on Earth needed a soft reset? Additionally weren't a huge number of absolutely horrific acts committed in its name, like the Inquisitions, Crusades, and Witch Hunts? That's all the exact opposite of "love, peace, and happiness."
Just wondering if it is The Gardener speaking to the Traveler instead of The Traveler speaking about itself? The sword also indicates that The Traveler has learned to weird Darkness but in self defense, to protect the garden and to speak.
We are the sword in that allegory. The traveler was drowning. We jump in to try to save it like it tried to save us and it reaches out and grasps a sword using its last strength to help us win.

In my opinion I think the Destiny story would've been a lot better if the Traveler was the bad one and the power it gave us was never suppose to be our's and the god's that were killed were never suppose to be killed.
Sounds like the worst kind of subverting expectations drivel. I prefer the Traveler to remain the light and something we can look up to in the worst times and draw the strength we need to do what must be done.

It's too bad that Bungie couldn't deliver on a cohesive well thought out story that can be enjoyed in game, and instead decided to chop the thing up and milk it like a cash cow for 10 years. Fantastic story no doubt, but the delivery kinda sucked.
