honestly if the team playing the lateral could adjust their offense accordingly, they'd be able to get in position like a rugby team would and just absolutely no-sell the defense. i'm australian but enjoy nfl too, you p much see it in the miracle of miami until around the time gronkowski gets to the 20 where the offensive line breaks down, that's pure rugby offense up until that. with the way the game is played most teams wouldn't be able to adjust on defense quickly enough. you wouldn't think laterals/backwards passes are so effective, but it's the only way to pass in rugby and it's just as good, if not better
I was going into college the year that Millsaps play happened. I played at a D3 school in the same conference as Millsaps and that play was all we talked about in training camp freshman year.
The action in which the musical band and part of the attendance literally invaded the pitch, when the ball was still in play shouldn't have been regular
Titans still threw a forward pass and not a lateral. -Disgruntled Bills fan who lived through the Curse of the Music City Miracle for 17 non playoff years
I have commented on the Miami vs Duke lateral game before and I will say it again. The Hurricanes TD should not have counted because one of their players runs into the field of of play from the sideline before the ball carrier crosses the goal line at around the 10 or so. It is number 11 who is in violation. Not sure how the refs did not catch it. I know it got looked at for a review but the last I checked that kind of thing was illegal at all levels of the game of football.
I understand where you are coming from but in the game of football it’s not entirely illegal to take on the field as long as you aren’t affecting it yourself. Like in this instance he runs on the field out of celebration because his teammate quite practically scored. So it wasn’t illegal, but say if he did that same thing and blocked somebody then it would be. The “legal” and “illegal” line is drawn purely on observation. If the player or non player taking the field makes a game changing disruption it’s illegal and rewarded based on how disruptive. A simple walk on with no effect, ain’t getting a flag drawn as it had no impact really.
I hated rundowns in baseball because I kept score. It would be a 3-6-2-5-1-4-2-6 out. How the hell do you score these plays ?? These desperation laterals could get more than 100 yards on one play.
Good thing for Cal, that was before the days of instant reply, cause guy tossing the third lateral, his knee is awful close to being down when he's getting rid of the ball. Also, did that high school really have a principal named Chalmers?
3:21 The defense should of still kept going and stop them but they hesitate and stop because they thought the player threw a foward pass and the ball hit the ground yet they still should try to get the ball until their opponent was officially down.
So on the one hand humanity can count literature, engineering, science, technology, art, music, medicine, math, and philosophy among the highest accomplishments and on the other hand we have these people who run and throw balls. Lessee, which do we need these days?...
A lot of these probably shouldn't have counted, especially that first one. for example: 06:10 looks like a fumble and so does 06:23, idk if 06:43 is a forward pass or not due to the video quality 10:16 the play before this one was a fourth down intentional grounding penalty as time expired, game should've ended there because it's an offensive penalty, but refs incorrectly gave Central Michigan an untimed down
It's cool at the end of games but imagine how annoying the shit would be if they did it more often lol. Technically they could lateral on every single play if they wanted.
Not a Lateral or anything but last year my high school pulled off a major upset. We beat the the #2 team Lindale. We were down 2 touchdowns with like 4 minutes left and keep in mind it’s in Lindale. We ended up driving down the field and lobbing a fade to our 6’4 wide receiver ( who is now playing for smu ) for a touchdown. Then we stopped them on 4th down. Our announcers yelling “AND HE’S STOPPED! AND YOUR KAUFMAN LIONS SNUFFED IT OUT!” Then again we went down the field and and with like 20 seconds left…..”Clamin in shotgun he drops back throws it up for Daylon and Daylon OHHHHHHHHH OHHHHHHHHH! TOUCHDOWN OHHHHHHHH! LETS GOOOOOO! WHOOOOOO!” Probably the greatest high school football call I’ve ever heard. We lobbed it up for daylon in the end zone and he came down with it in the corner. We went for two to make it a 3 point game and we got it. Then on 4th down for them on pretty much the last play of the game we hit the qb in the backfield but he stayed up. Our defense chased him and got to him and hit him hard, he got picked up in the air and he tried a desperation throw but he got stripped and we fell on it. Me and my dad yelling and screaming. There ended up being a penalty on us like some kind of unsportsmanlike conduct or something which game them the ball and they had one more play. They threw it up and we knocked it down. And we beat the #2 team in 4A Lindale 39-36 in their stadium. We ended up going like 8-3 and going to the second round of the playoffs and lost in a close battle with La Vega another high ranked team. Daylon got hurt in that game so I like to say we would have won if he didn’t get hurt and we probably would have. This year Lindale came to our stadium And we beat them on a game winning touchdown run by our sophomore running back. We beat them 24-17 with a sophomore qb and a sophomore running back because our starting rb got hurt. We are 4-1 right now and are on by week. Sorry just got a bit bored and decided to right this. You can see both livestreams of the game and other videos on my high schools UA-cam channel Roartv. We actually have over 1k subscribers which is cool.
there are multiple reasons that one should not have counted. a Miami player came off the bench and onto the field during the play. if anything, that alone should've negated the whole sequence.
