Epilepsy/Seizure Warning: This game contains 1 second of rapid flashing after the completion of every level.
You play the role of Miner Willy, a bold explorer and adventurer. He discovers a network of underground caverns used by an advanced but now extinct civilization, and realizes that the mines contain lucrative metal ores. Through 20 caverns, you must collect all treasures before all time (air) runs out, watching out for the nasty guardians, the obstacles, dead falls, quicksands and all elements to be found in a classic platform game.
This movie completes the Enhanced Game mode exclusive to the GBA port, which contains 10 new levels interspersed with the original 20 levels. Reading the author's commentary ( tasvideos.org/4535S ) is recommended.

Ow, my eyes. My _No, thanks_ to the programmer/homebrewer who couldn't have just settled for a chime or "yeah, you did it."

This bears remarkable similarity to the single-screen puzzle rooms in Back to the Future 2 & 3 for the NES. It can't be a coincidence. Was there a shared developer? Did one developer copy another design wholesale?

nope, this is a port of a *very* old game that was a massive influence in the early 80s microcomputer scene.
though if you mean BttF may have lifted from THIS game, that might be the case! as mentioned, this game was a huge hit in the early 80s and, especially with its sequel Jet Set Willy, spawned innumerable amounts of clones and still had influence later on. There wasnt a shared developer, but the developer of BttF may have felt inspired by manic miner and jet set willy.

I hope the lack of a backlight on the GBA didn't screw with kids' eyes. I'm not even light sensitive and this hit me hard.

They really just did the "SEGA" jingle with their own studio name instead, lol
