I saw primus a few nights in a row on one of their tours and was amazed at how much energy they had every night. It was hard enough for me to drive me and my friends to each venue in a different city every night, but to see them bang it out perfectly every time was impressive. I think once in Seattle, Limp Bizkit opened for them (they were just starting out) and Fred Durst came on to introduce Les and said something like "I don't know how he does it but this guy drinks me under the table every night and crushes these shows." 😂 he was like "I can barely function right now" Les was just like "uh thanks," and did another amazing show.
It already does dude, primus has been main stream for 30 years. For fucks sake this was most likely on MTV. That was the biggest outlet for music for years. May not be what it once was, but MTV used to be it. If you had a music video play on MTV, you were a success. you were mainstream. But thats when the main stream had balls. The bands have moved to a lower key in the public limelight, because they push trash like taylor swift. But when one of these bands come out with a new album, they shoot past everything on the charts. TooL released Fear Inoculum around the same time as a taylor swift album, I remember her bitch ass fans being all pissed that tools albums were in the top spots one after another and the majority were rereleases on spotify. TOOL was number one for weeks, and they made taylor swift their bitch without the promotional campaign of major studio music. They hit number one multiple times, Based on word of mouth and their following alone. Because the main stream is no longer who the record labels push, its who you are watching online. Which evens the playing field. Anyone can start a band today, if you are good, it doesnt matter if you are big or small, you are a real band. So it doesnt matter if the typical mainstream bs is pushed. Only little bitches will listen to trash, and they eventually become tool and primus fans, so we always win in the end.
Everything today is more fragmented since it’s easier than ever to discover music niches online. Maybe there are more acts that have decent followings online but would never be heard on the radio. except college stations are sometimes better and weirder

Came here after reading an article about this show a few minutes ago. 🙂 According to Claypool, things didn’t get any clearer once they got out of the festival. “We flew back that night back up to Poughkeepsie, New York, back to the Public Enemy tour. So we were going from Daytona Beach, which was hot and warm, to literally - taking off - the captain said, ‘Well, the airport's closed in Poughkeepsie due to a blizzard, but we think they'll have it open by the time we get there.’ “So we're like, ‘What the hell!?’ and we had to do one of those fly arounds, which pilots don't like to do that unless something really bad is happening. The plane got almost completely sideways, and everybody's looking out the window, and it was only just us on the plane. And me and Ler frying out of our minds on acid.”
I turned 5 on this very day. I’d like to think of this performance as my birthday party if everyone is cool with that? Great! Thanks for coming to my party!
Playing on acid is actually much easier than playing on alcohol. The only real risk is that you'll get distracted by your instrument sounding more amazing than you ever thought possible!
Tracks: 1. 0:07 Gary Was A Pace Car Driver (Primus) 2. 3:28 Timmy The Cat (Primal Scream) 3. 9:53 Madman (Silverchair) 4. 13:39 Cats In The Cradle Of Love (Billy Idol) 5. 18:49 Everything About You (Three Days Grace)
Les is the only guy in whole universe who can take acid and perfectly plays Tommy the Cat on 6 string bass, make the insane solo, sing to it, looks bad ass and look like no big deal in front of thousands of people.
I bet. I was turning 11. All I could think back then is how badly I wished I was older so I could go to shows like this. I feel like if I’d lived my exact life but had born 10 years earlier, it would have made so much more sense.
Herb not only plays like he has six additional appendages, he also looks like he’s about to be attacked by six dudes but end up breaking each one of their arms while throwing them off the stage because he is so f**king Hard to Kill.
I can't even stand on acid and here's Les dancing around the stage, singing, slapping the bass like a madman, and staring into the orange abyss like it's nothing.
One night back in 96,I scored over 50 million, maybe more, on Black Knight 2000 pinball while on 2 gel tabs. To this day it remains one of the most surreal experiences of my life.
Wow. I was at this show. Came down from Ft Bragg, NC for spring break with some buddies. I knew who Primus was. Never cared much for Ugly Kid Joe. Still, it was a lot of fun.
after the first song, you can hear someone shouting "primus sucks!!" and if Les had heard them, he probably would have said something like "you know, we tried to tell em that, but they said we had to go on anyway, so F it". He says he was trippin balls for this show too haha what a great group, some guy who sounds like he pried himself out of a swamp, surfer lookin guitar player and then the drummer, looks like a Seagal cosplay, some straight edge lookin eurogoth. Nobody knew what to think about primus but we all knew it was amazing whatever it was. Bands where the lead singer is the bass player, they make some big waves, Rush, Motorhead, Primus, legends
Everyone is loving on Primus, but Ugly Kid Joe was a wildly talented band who could truly rock. They deserve more love. Their performance here was most excellent!
