Just listen to Domingo... his voice is at its most golden winged, masculine and agile. Sheer elixir to the soul. I prefer this with Milnes but this is fabulous.
@@thomasprislacjr.4063 My favorite recording of this duet is the 1972 one with Franco Corelli and Sherrill Milnes. It’s one of the most exciting things I’ve ever heard.
There are certain notes that Domingo hits that seem to strike to my very core. This duet has a couple, especially his cries of desperation, and especially at 6:20. I've experienced this a few times with him in various other operas. Something about the resonance of his voice.

Plácido Domingo is superb as always. But as good as the French Canadian Quilico could be, here in this duet, I think Star Trek: Voyager's Robert Picardo >>> Louis Quilico. Sad to say, but true. I've heard Quilico in better form (ex: as Rigoletto with Pavarotti as the Duca) The Met production does deserve kudos as the entire set looks like it was lifted from the real King Philip II's actual Escorial palace outside Madrid.
i always despaired that this don carlo was marred by the casting of Quilco as Rodrigo/Posa. Dont get me wrong the rest of the cast were amazing. Quilco for me was the weak link. Domingo amazing as usual holds up this duet. Thanks for the clip ursey.
You are hearing one of the great baritone voices of the 20th century, an indispensable voice for dramatic, particularly Verdian, repertoire. If you can't hear this, then I despair of your aesthetic taste and musical knowledge.
Louis Quilico had one of the most sheerly lovely baritone voices of the 20th C. And superb technique. He was an indispensible part of the Verdi wing at the Met. And it was a genuinely huge, rich sound, not like the swallowed, darkened gargling that passes for Verdi singing now.
Plácido was the ideal "Don Carlo"!! I agree with you that Qilico was weak either with his terrible voice and his poor acting...all the others were quite at Domingo's level.
After a journey in the 24th century through the Delta Quadrant I too ended up in 19th century Italy. Thank you, Star Trek.
Well said Ruud.
Star Trek, specifically Robert Picardo's (the EMH) singing, is what got me into opera.
16th century Spain, unless you meant Verdi’s own time and place.
Live long and prosper.
🤣🤣🤣 .... and you were great!
Bravooo....Bravísimooo!!!!!

Extraordinario
Maravilloso ...
Bellissimo
Magnífico
Two bars of gold-pressed latinum to anyone who finds a Robert Picardo opera album/compilation.
Here from Voyager as well!
Joan Caminal yes,but only back then,he should shut up now trying to sing baritone
¡Maravilloso siempre!
The EMH brought me here.
Same, the EMH is the most musically cultured hologram I know

Please state the nature of the musical emergency

@Stephen, I know what you mean -- the bell tone, the ring. It is absolutely preternatural and awe inspiring. Salud.
Spot on: it's a reaction between ear and resonance which produces the feeling: for me, it was Domingo's voice that did it, too.
Thank you EMH... The Delta quadrant will never be the same
its fare to say at least half of us came here because of the EMH
