Who would want to be law enforcement with horrible people and lenient prosecuotors ? We need a better class of criminals.

That low of a salary AND no vested pension plan for STATE TROOPERS, which are generally some of the highest paid leo's in each state. what a laughable situation, they're lucky to have anyone left on the force at all.

It makes no sense to arrest them when the DA doesn't do their JOB!
Make them pay every bit of the fine whether it be money, community service or jail.
It's not rifles they need the leaders who support police and prosecute.

I respect these people who can do this job... the disrespect and hatred the job entails when it comes to the citizens and elected officials they have to endure and protect everyday is repulsing . No wonder? Wear a bulletproof vest to work everyday ...respect or hatred.

If they want better benefits then they need to make 50 an hour to start. 5% for FTO pay, 5% longevity, 5% for detectives, 5% for motors, 2.5% for Intermediate GA POST cert and 5% for Advance GA POST cert. Retirement should be 90% of their top pay after 25 years of service. Maybe these new benefits would keep Troopers from leaving. BUT if those Troopers don't feel supported at all, then no amount of pay will keep them in the job.

We need to support the Police and YES, they should have qualified immunity as every situation is different and they are humans tasked with dealing with the inhumanity existing in our society. Focus scrutiny on the lunacy of the prosecutors and judges. Demand they enforce the consequences for those who break the law. That's where the real problem lies.

  • @just_some_internet_guy

What do the officers mean when they say they cannot operate without qualified immunity? Policing for the majority of history has not have this policy at all. The qualified immunity is there to protect police when they are breaking the law. Law enforcement should have at least the same sentence as everybody else.

    • @ChaseActual
      @ChaseActual 10 місяців тому +6

Qualified immunity has nothing to do with criminal law. Officers are still prosecuted, indicted, and arrested for breaking the law. Qualified immunity protects officers from being sued for performing legitimate, well established, law enforcement activities. Qualified immunity doesn’t apply if an officers breaks the law or violates someone’s constitutional rights. Yet another reason no one wants to be in law enforcement- people spew non-sense about laws they don’t understand.

    • @user-ut9bk5bq4z

@@ChaseActualor in other words, officer made a mistake in good faith. The qualified immunity applies to that situation too.

Not an issue MOST of Canada's Cities police forces. Where I life u only have to be an officer for 5 years before u hit the 100K mark WITHOUT OT, and most officers ride with a partner. Our RCMP that cover Rural areas make even more, but ride alone. On top of this high pay u get an incredible pension and benefits. Even in my crime infested city the Police have no issues with recruitment or retention. Of course, we have no body or dash cams, so very little accountability, I surmise that also helps retention when u get away with a lot more crap. That's said, I think every cop on earth should have a front and rear dash cams, and a body cam. Paying people as much as they do here and not have accountability is preposterous. These cameras would serve many purposes, not the least of which would be assuring the citizens they are getting what they are paying for.

Police officers and departments “particularly in Georgia” have a lot to do with creating this situation where citizens want the removal of “qualified immunity”. Decades of enforcing laws without any attention payed to constitutional or civil rights and the abuses of search and seizure of money and properties for misdemeanor charges that are dismissed in court without the return of property and on and on. I know there are good law enforcement officers but they are suffering for a century of bad practice and behavior.

i’m surprised your comment doesn’t have more likes. i recently got my bachelors in criminal justice and you’re absolutely right. the history of policing is dark and complex but over all incredibly manipulative and corrupt. it really sucks for people who do like the field and hope to be one of the officers that does good on their community. there is no easy fix to this, it will take years to rebuild the same way it took years to tear it apart.

The solution is simple, raise pay, hire all the cops that retire in the north & move to the south. Instead of sending them to a long police academy, give them 2 weeks of refresher training. They'll be at full staff in no time...

So a job that allows you to kill people wants no responsibility for it if they do it wrong. Then the story barely touches on the topic that they are completely under paid. Please show me one story where a cop went to jail by doing NOTHING wrong.. Please one..

Look at the LA county deputy that got blown away at a traffic light the other day. I was in it from 77-99 and would never go back under these circumstances...... No thanks!

The reality is Georgia has a weaker talent pool than most other states. Lowering standards for entrance to the academy will also backfire. So the only real alternative is to raise pay so that the state can recruit competent officers.
