Great video, mate. This is an comparison that I had suppoused to be easy to find on internet, but only on your channel that I found a good explanation!
When I get a plain text email I firstly think spam marketing and scammers. And if I realise that it isn't spam or scam, I still think it looks unprofessional. I never think, "Oh, this is written in plain text. How personal. This must be a friend or relative."
A lot of the decision between these two options comes down to user expectations, where they are in the funnel, etc. For example, if you are a B2C brand and have the need to really showcase your product with imagery, plain text probably won't deliver the experience you're looking for. Just takes understanding where your customers are at in the buying journey.
Thanks for the explanation, would love to know what email softwares you use to create plain text emails as there really isn't any information online on where to find them. Most providers only use templates If you could share that, it would be awesome
Most platforms allow you to choose Plain or Design options. As an example, Aweber allows you to create 100% plain text emails. As I mentioned in this video, I recommend a hybrid. So you would use a HTML email that appears plain, with the added functionality of hyperlinked texts and ability to test and track opens/clicks. With pure plain text emails, you can't track certain metrics.
Depending on thr email marketing service you use,, when you create your broadcast or automated email, choose HTML. Sometimes it's called Visual Builder or email builder. In Aweber, you can see the options at 01:02 of the video. When choosing a HTML template, choose a "plain" looking style.
Do html mails not look more professional? I understand the more personal touch of text mails, but esthetics are quite important when you sell luxury products...?
Now I starting to wonder if you are somehow tracking what I'm doing Aurelius... Just kidding, but I am up to creating my first email sequense... how diid you know that? :D Ok, so I will be using a hybrid but I'm not too sure if I should include a small square colourful foodie logo or just text with hyperlinks, what do you think?
😆 A logo is okay. It depends how personal you want your emails to look. I am a personal brand so I want to make sure my emails look as personal as possible. Some have a header banner at the top of their newsletter for branding purposes, but I feel it takes up "above the fold" space.
I used to do plain then switched to HTML. Looking to adopt a less is more approach w/tracking. I'm going with the hybrid method. Thanks for a great video, Aurelius!

I use both, it's a situational decision and also something that we test often.
