- The Iron Sting Guided Mortar Munition offers a range of 1-12 km, depending on the mortar tube. Three modes of operation, GPS/IMU, SAL+GPS/IMU and SAL+IMU provide robust capabilities in all battlefield scenarios. Elbit System's Iron Sting features a seeker laser sensor capable of operating with standard pulse (NATO STANAG 3722) and an encoded CW laser diode (lightweight and low-cost, suitable for small drones and UAS). The warhead is capable of penetrating Double Reinforced Concrete (DRC) with a blast and fragmentation effect. The mortar bomb features a multi-mode fuze with Point Detonation (PD), Point Detonation Delay (PDD) and proximity sensor (PRX) operating modes.

i fired the 4.2 inch motor in vietnam, ilummnation rounds, HIGh explosive. a very accurate round but the 81mm was sweet too. 4th inf div. 1st plt. 10 armored 1969.

the thing witb this is that the enemy can't really counter it with counter artillery since the trajectory is unpredictable, except they know the mortar's firing location first
i dont agree with you. In order to use counter artillery they need the artillerys position.what you are saying is that they can see the shell flying towards. you cant see artillery flying towards you. It is way to fast and you are dead or heavily injured.

Looks to me like it'd be a more useful weapon for resistance groups to use to take out enemy military vehicles (including artillery) than the more direct-fire Javelin or NLAW.
I think actual munitions in action would be a much more effective marketing strategy. The graphics depicted leave much to be desired.

I wonder if these were used by the IDF in this most recent dustup with Hamas in Gaza. I'm not sure what the maximum range is for a mortar. I know it depends on how much "Cheese is used to propel it from the mortar tube. I think these used in conjunction with targeting drones would make for pretty accurate targeting. I saw in another video where they were using a drone to visually determine the target had been cleared of civilians before the go-ahead was given to attack the target.

Cheap drones have more range and easy to deploy if you want more explosive payload too!! The mortar with heavy tube and the plate, to bulky, but more rate of fire in 10km range!!winds or contarmesure work against drones....sometimes, is better tech and money vs less tech and less money!!
