"He is, indeed, unkillable. We tried hard"
- Sabaton, probably.
I can’t like this comment, im sorry.
I would like this comment, but the rules are simple I cannot. But this guy embodies the phrase
“built different”
He was a different breed. "Frankly I enjoy the war"
The reason why the video was done the way that it was, was to show how much war this man saw and so much so that literally it blended together in the tales about him.
He fought in Africa, France, Germany, and just before Vietnam kicked off.
Literally a career soldier
and Asia in WW2 and was a POW and saw the surrender of Japan in Singapore
And kinda also WW1 and 2 since he has a Thompson in that first battle, and Thompson didnt exist until 1919(maybe even later)
Both of those wars he had extensive service in, he was 34-38 during the First World War and was in his 60s during WW2 while still serving front line and and actively leading his soldiers into battle.
He was in poland when germany invaded in ww2. The germans bombed his house because they knew who he was.
Ur kidding
Sir Adrian was what could be described as comically badass. this song embodies this in every aspect
Or just nuts. Some sort of mix between T-800 and the Black Knight.
Th ere's a VERY fine line between bravery and insanity. Carton was a bit of both.
During the Somaliland Campaign in 1915, he was shot twice in the face, losing his left eye and part of his ear, then in France, lost his left hand after it got shattered during an artillery barrage. He pulled off one of his fingers after doctors refused to amputate it, he was shot through the skull and ankle during the battle of the Somme, through the hip at the battle of Passchendaele, through the leg at Cambrai and through the ear at Arras. And probably a lot more. The guy was a living bullet sponge. He visited the field hospitals so many times to the point where they would keep fresh clothes for him, so that when he returns, they can treat him and immediately give him fresh clothes.
The guy was literally everywhere. Africa, France, Belgium, then in WW2, Poland, Norway, he was taking prisoner in Italy, after WW2 he went to China and all over Asia.
The definition of "he's one shot", "no he's not liar" 😂😂
He was immortal and yet he survived all that and died in age of83 . And got a lot of medals and knighthoods and other tiles. You should check bio on him .
It is fun to watch Indy Nidel “ the history guy” ham it up playing Wiart.
if only we could see Indy Neidell's Carton de Wiart meet Indy Neidell's Lawrence of Arabia... after all, they were contemporaries
Sabaton had way too much fun abusing their historian
Adrien Carton De Wiart is one of my favorite historical figures. His arm wasn't taken off completely. He tried to throw a grenade back but it blew up in his hand. When doctors refused to amputate his mangled hand, he tore the fingers off himself. He was also disallowed to join the army after his eye was blown out unless he wore a glass one. He agreed....right up until he left the building, where he promptly tossed the eye in the trash and wore a patch.
During ww2, he saved people from a crashed plane in the water by swimming. He was also well into his 50s by this point. He also told Mao Zedong, the communist dictator of China that he hated communists to his face.
Major respect for him in that last bit.
After One( Of MANY) plane crashes he endured, at the age of 61( plus-minus) without the arm, he pulled a fellow soldier out of the wreckage and towed him to the shore. Yea, a man with one hand and one eye being quite old, pulled out the man of the mangled plane and swam with him on his back to the shore.
He liked war like his family wanted him to be a lawyer, yet whenever there was any war that England had some business in, there he was, having a f*cking time of his life blasting away.
He embodies the saying I like to throw around: Bravery is just Madness under control.
And now professional athletes have trouble standing up straight for the anthem.
@@benterbenter9281 Poor baby, they didn't stand up to appease your blind nationalistic chest thumping. I'm sure this grievous wound on your ego will heal eventually though I'm afraid your lack of intelligence is terminal.
Lieutenant Colonel Adrian Carton de Wiart was critically injured nine times during WW1. Like shot in the eye, shot through the head, shot in the stomach and lost his hand. He even survived 2 plane crashes and many others. He also ripped out is own fingers as a doctor refused to operate at his request, so Adrian did it himself XD.
Though recieving many and life threatening Injuries he return to fighting as soon as he woke up or when he personally felt he was better or able to walk.
Also you asked if he was all cheering and happy to return to fighting. He acutally said this despite recieving multiply injuries and being in many wars, he said and I quote "I enjoyed the war".
Being part of Boer war before WW1 then WW1 and later WW2 until he retired. Having recieved 10 medals of honor from different nations, mostly Britain.
Despite all that happen, he married a countess at 28 and died peacefully around his family at 83
This is what the singer Joakim Broden had to say himself about Adrian Carton de Wiart.
"Adrian Carton de Wiart was Belgian-born and fighting for the British in World War I but had also fought earlier in the Boer War and further back. He was almost like a comic book character, this over-the-top super-soldier who just wouldn’t die no matter what the enemy threw at him. He’s one of the craziest people I’ve ever read about, so we decided to do something different for him. It’s a playful song, somehow."
Speaking of their history channel. The historian who hosts it is playing the hero in this video.
Gotta love Indy. :)
He got killed over and over and over again, yet he just ignored it. His story is so amazingly and unbelievably stupid in a good way that you just can't help but laugh. Literally one of a kind, true soldier. Amazing reaction as always, thank you!
In a way I like the fictional telling of the guy next to him, because somebody had to get out there too and drag this crazy son of a gun off the battlefield. These are the unsung heroes who kept their leader alive.
Dave's reaction to them emptying everything into this man at the end is now my all time favorite reaction ever. I feel like Dave saw something he just could not process and the shock of it was just too much lmfao.
I half expected them to just start bayonetting his ass.
Dude was shot 12 times, ripped off his own fingers prior to them amputating the hand, survived 2 plane crashes, escaped a pow camp, and had a blast the whole time
and he was in his 60s when he escaped the POW camp, although he was recaptured a few days later.
@@MrDraka12 few day it was a full week before they caught him.. and he didn't even speak Italian
The man playing Adrian is Indy Neidell who made a Week by Week video documentary of both WW1 and WW2
Do we know who played the nurse?
He lied about his age when he enlisted and fought in the 2nd Boer War (1899 - 1902) and was wounded twice in the Gut and Groin , then reenlisted for WW1 and WW2 . heard he was in Poland at the start of WW2 and that Germany bombed his family home during the invasion of Belgium with the hope they got him.
the germans did know of him, he was in poland when the second world war started, and the germans dedicated several bombers to blow up his house specifically.... it didnt work, and he escaped
He also was regulated to diplomatic duty in china and straight up
insulted Mao Zedong to his face
"Yo, didn't I kill that guy, like, 6 times already?" - some German, probably
yes he was shot numerous times im pretty sure that last time and survived lol. It was hardly dramatized mainly just made more comical. Dude was far more badass than the video makes out he was a war machine
Army of Reich: we're coming
Dude : to me
Army : what?
Two days later:
Soviet union invades Germany
My dude took more bullets and damage than 50 cent, he clearly was built different probably wanted to keep getting visit from the gorgeous nurse.
You also said you watch the Sabaton History Channel the guy that does it is the same guy who played the Unkillible Soldier.
dude was invincible
He is one of those soldiers that make his allied soldiers fight even more
If I recall correctly, he was also disappointed after one war had ended, don't know which one, because he liked fighting so much.
Well he served in the Boer War, WW1 and WW2 so probably disappointed that all of them ended
@@varnasblade that was mad Jack Churchill that said that one
@@reecedignan8365 damn my bad I get the two mixed up with their lunacy
@@varnasblade I also get confused lmao, I knew one of them said "If it werent for the boody Yanks we could have kept the war going for another 10 years" I frequently forget whitch one lmao
@@xyman3572 Mad Jack Churchill after Hiroshama
5 plane crashes too. 2 in Poland between WWI and WWII (captured by the Lithuanians and spent time as a POW). Norway and off the coast of Libya in WWII and in 1946 in China. That has to be up there all time for somebody who wasn't a pilot.
This man was literally built different.
He was first wounded during the 1902 war in South Africa, he died peacefully in 1963. In his memoirs he wrote that he enjoyed WW1.
In the video he is played by Indy Neidell, who frequently colaborates with sabaton (played Lawrence of Arabia in video for 7 pillars of wisdom and hosts Sabaton History channel), good dude
Sabaton: We are going kill Indy in this video
Indy: no you wont, i am playing the part of Adrian and i cant be killed in war
For Captain America you should listen to To Hell And Back about Audrey Murphy. That's also a mad lad.
Another mad lad was Lauri Allan Törni, as song about by Sabaton in Soldier Of 3 Armies.
I love every song they released and this album is already epic BUT the song I waiting for is Hellfighters.
It's based off the Harlem Hellfighters, an all black regiment from the first world war.
Sabaton has been wanting to do a song about them since their first album about WW1 but until now were not satisfied with what they had come up with.
That makes me really excited for what they've come up with
When the course started, your face was priceless. So catchy. Brilliant song yet again from sabaton
Adrian Carton de Wiart is what you call a true mad heroe!
11 wounds and the guy still doesnt stop keeps going on
Probably my favorite story from him is when he fought in World War II and he went to Poland and because he was so renowned they targeted his house and bombed it and he survived and was transported back to Britain
Gonna keep requesting this cause I know you will love it but try Majestica - Above the Sky. It's the lead guitarist of Sabaton, Tommy Johansens band and this song is fantastic.
As already pointed out, the video isn't really accurate. I mean, it's set in ww1 but they're using ww2 weapons. Also, he actually lost his eye during the Somaliland campaign in 1914, before he made it to France. Obviously they're poking fun at the man because he really seems like a video game character.
I mean, it might come out of your words that they laughing at him, but I don't think so. I feel that they embrace the madness that this absolute mad-lad story is, quite frankly not bringing up some other WAY more absurd stories( like when in WW2 he escaped the prison made inside the castle in Italy, where he dug a tunnel under the walls across several months with fellow soldiers, just to play Italian peasant for 8 days despite having no knowledge of how to speak Italian)...
I mean the dude fought in ww2 as well. So they tried to mix together ww1 and ww2
Man fought so much, and in so mamy places, I doubt even he could keep his stories straight
Lieutenant-General Sir Adrian Paul Ghislain Carton de Wiart = Immortal soldier.
That's another incredible story Sabaton picked out! But I believe that there are still such crazy people today.
been waiting for this reaction my guy.
if nothing else his determination is inspiring. witch in it's self is dangerous.
The video isn't that accurate, Sabaton was sortta taking the piss out of the man but the unreasonable bs he survived is pretty accurate
It was not satire, but parody. They were not making him look bad, instead of embracing the absurdity of his life( which he actually did himself, which can be seen in his autobiography "Happy Odyssey" in which he stated that he genuinely love fighting in the war).
@@flameendcyborgguy883 yeah that's what I ment it was ment to be comedically absurd
@@varnasblade Sorry, I thought you were saying that they were making fun of him, while I don't think it is true...
Floor Jenson is singing backup in sabaton, with her husband the drummer
Am I the only one seeing ‘Inglorious Basterds’ in this video? Joakim reminds me very much of Brad’s Lieutenant Aldo. Love it.
They certainly took a comedic tone and I loved it.
The somme is one of the bloodiest battles 1m+ killed on both sides my great grandfather was at the somme with the Manchester regiment on the first day over 20,000 killed that was just the side of the British
Kind of reminds me of that scene with the black knight and king Arthur taking the limbs of the black knight
Watched one person who said this is like something out of Monty Python, which if anyone knows those movies, you will get it, as i did
He also tunneled out of a POW camp with one arm and one eye.
This guy chose Absolute Mad Lad for his class. Some people are just built differently I guess. If you have ever seen the Monty Python skit with the Black Knight, it's like that. "Tis but a flesh wound!"
I discarted this song at first, then, it became my favourite from Sabaton 🤟
Loved your reaction bro , the man was built like no other …the original Terminator!
You can read his memoir called Happy Odyssey! 😀
God: you know imma make this guy a main character in this latest war arc i'm writing for the 1914/1918 editions of Earth.
the medical valkyrie : "ffs you again?"
That's what you get if you mix the Belgian-Irish blood e terminator 😜👌
This guys mental strength is strong
Soldiers have a few close artillery shots, gets shell shocked
Adrian lose an eye and a hand, enjoyed the war
Guy was the physical embodiment of "Nah, I'd Win."
You just made my day I’ve been waiting all day for you’re reaction to this song you didn’t disappoint I think you thoroughly enjoyed it as I did . Rock on brother I hope you get to see them live this year they are amazing live.👍🔥🎸
I love your channel keep up the great stuff
I seem to recall that he tore of some of the mangled fingers after which an amputation of the remains was necessary
Great video! Keep them coming!
once i read a comment about a theory about the woman may be Morrigan, the celtic death goddess who collect the fallen warroir from the battlefield, because this guy had irish blood in his veins
I love that the nurse has absolutely no dirt or anything on her, like they dropped a porn actress right into the sabaton set.
quite ironic that when he died it was of all possibilities falling down a flight of stairs
I agree with Sir Adrian Carton De Wiart, for i to enjoyed myself on 3 deployments to Afghanistan.
I never thought I'd see them mag-dumping on Indy Neidel but it happened
After seeing this video a few times i asked myself, how much does your state of mined affect you healing.
Sir Adrian obviously wanted back in to the fight, could that have a affect of the rate of healing.
Have there been any kind of research in to that!? I know some people can feel less pain then others but got to be more then that!?
At least he didn't get tea bagged
this is how it feels to be fighting orcs in Shadow of war. Sometimes they just wont fecking die.
7:58 The group of enemy soldiers literally pulled a 50 cent on the dude....And stil alve after all that.
Just wait until you hear about his World War 2 antics!
Also, sorry for the comment spam on your videos, I discovered you though watching Stupendium videos and just found your Sabaton videos! They're great reactions and Sabaton are my favourite band!
The US is 4 years active duty then another 4 as a reservist but that I believe only applies to the Army. Each branch has a different enlistment times.
Quite frankly I enjoyed the war -quote from the mad lad himself
Revolutionary War 70 year old man was Banetted 9 times and lived for another 20 years
I'll have to find the source and
History channel revolution somewhere in that is where I remember
He tunnelled out of a POW camp and survived 2 plane crashes
Imagine this: you're a soldier in a war. You shoot an enemy soldier in the head. Surely he's dead, right?
...
...then he gets right back up and kills you.
just got promoted 1 hour ago to seargant! :)
Congrats homie!
@@whatitdodave Thank you 🙏🏻 😌I appreciate everything you do calms me a bit trough stress the time I get 😁
@3O3 indeed gg ✌🏻
And survived 2 plane crashes.
Yeah...he just kept getting injured just to go back to that hot nurse. HHHHHEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOO Nurse!
suggest watch the simple history version he even joined ww2 too if i remeber
from what ive heard this guy was an war hunter and for some reason he was in poland when the nazis took over.
There are many different ways to interpret the video, but I would only venture into two things. One of them is the nurse. I think he was cast as the guardian angel in the clip, hardly every time he met the same nurse. But he keeps rescuing her, and the lieutenant general must have had at least one guardian angel. The other is the image of the last wounded when the members of the Sabaton shoot him into a sieve. I guess because of the brevity of the song, it didn't fit all the injuries, so they showed it in one. He was a fearless man, though perhaps a little foolish.
This guy was collecting wounds from the 2nd Boer War in 1902 to WWII...🧐
He actually fought in Africa in the 1903 campaigns
As well I meant that was his first war he fought in every major war between 1903 to 1945 both world wars this man was truly a beast
It was the Boer War
@@benterbenter9281 thank you I couldn't remember the name of that war
Look up the Biographics video on Adrian Carton De Wiart. It gives you everything you need to know of him in 20 min.
Thank you.
@@whatitdodave no problem, friend. And to answer your question, yes, he did behave rather jovial and smiled a lot when he got back in the fight.
The Unkillable Soldier MV aka "Sabaton band members desperately trying to kill their historian."
Car- to is closer the n is almost silent
I swear its like a case of Stockholm's Syndrome... (the military)
the "funny" / ironic thing is that Carton literally means cardboard
i would not say captain america he was more like deku from mha
Frankly I enjoyed the war
He died of old age
I’m not tryna hate but his nose lookin fake
It is very much real 🤣🤣
Why would somebody want to fake a big nose tho. I thought the popular thought was smaller = better
@@whatitdodave I mean, Greek gods got big noses
