Everyone of these individuals deserve there place in surfing history. I was a bystander on the North Shore in the mid seventies. They all approach the truth from their perspective. All those surfers have surfed giant, powerful waves without a leash. I pay respect and I honor all these icons.
Many thanks to the up-loader. Excellent debate and very interesting to hear it 'like it is'.
I love this film.
Jeez i wish we could back to the 1970s again, Just love all these Surfers, The Hawaians that had to share there waves with the world, The Great Australian and South African Surfers that came to the North Shore, RIP Michael Tompson!
I almost skipped Fred’s closing statement. Glad I didn’t, well said
RIP Michael Tomson.
Fred is wrong about beer. He got defensive over alcohol which shows his own issues with the chemical. Alcohol is a drug and beer is the "soft" drug that many people choose so they don't define themselves as alcoholics. Be careful with the belief that alcohol is not as "bad" as illegal drugs. As a recovering alcoholic and addict i can attest that alcohol will destroy your body and your life and the lives of those you love with just as much force as meth, cocaine or heroin. Don't decieve yourself over this issue, alcohol is equivalent to any other drug.
Yup Alcohol causes people to act like a totally different person. All the murders and auto accidents and so much more. Some one does heroin what they work and take a nod when they're done. I don't get it
I feel sorry for these Hawaiian people who's family there since the 1800s I met a ladie and her family has been there since the mid or early 1800s somewhere that time from the big island she said to me that when some of the mainlanders moved live over there for years they can get a bit rude like that drug dealing Jewish guy from Philly I am glad that Fred hemmings was talking about him
Can't find this movie anywhere. Does anyone know if it's on any online networks
You can purchase it and watch through the Surf Network. I finally ran across it after about 3 years of searching. www.thesurfnetwork.com/detail/59325c188de9f0c812f5039fa59ff1ad4f0888b5fb5b5bb0/movie
Eddie an example kids and teens just remember one thing if you live in Hawaii or gold coast tweed etc if you are born in those places if you want to own the area or threaten people if your parents are from somewhere else just think there's family's who been in that place for 150 years longer than you Eddie is an example
Rothman gives Hawai'ians a very baaad name.
He didn't grow in HI.
And ... he is as Haole as it gets, too!
You can have true "aloha" and not be nearly as pissy as that man is.
Eddie Rothman can be quite THUG-gish.
I AGREE with Fred.
