A tip I learned to not lose any kombucha while letting pressure release is to put a ziplock baggie over the top of the battle before opening while placing the whole bottle into a clean bowl to catch the overspill. Works great and no loss!!
Thank you for being short and sweet. I can’t stand hearing things repeated and talk just to talk. I liked subscribed and shared.
These kombucha videos are so fabulous! Thanks so much!
This is awesome! Your videos are super simple to watch because you really break every thing down into digestible bite-sized information.
Thank you! I loved your tutorials on making scoby and kombuchas. I am in process of making my first scoby now!
Thank you for your series!!
Great stuff! I'm on a journey learning how to take care of my digestive tract. Kombucha is part of that journey. Very helpful. Thanks! ❤️
SO informative. Thank you!!
Super excited to try a batch, thanks for sharing ! :)
Good vid! Just what I was looking for with a few nice bonus tips snuck in there. Cheers!
Cheers! Thank you!!!
Thanks just about to do my first flavoured batch!
thx for the informative video, my daughter and i just completed our 1st batch!
Thank you....sounds pretty easy.
This series was super helpful, thank you!! I now have a 2 week old scobie that I am almost ready to make my first batch with 😊
How exciting!!! Great job!!! The first batches are just the best. Consider it a huge victory and celebrate it! So awesome! Thank you for sharing
How long does it take for a scoby to start growing
Thank you for sharing!❤
Thank you, great video! Very organized and simple. First time seeing your channel. New subscriber!
Oh thank you very much. Welcome!!!
Learned a lot from you thanks ! My first batch is going on its 7th day tomorrow! Cheers !
I really appreciate the video - well done
I'm going to try this. Thank you
You’re so welcome :)
I feel like this is by far the best videos I've found on brewing kombucha. All the little tips and tricks were helpful!!
Oh thanks Pat!!! Appreciate the feedback
@@homemadeonourhomestead I have a question, I'm doing the store brought starter method. I have a film (pelicle) growing. After it has thickened into a scoby presumably after 7 - 10 days, can I use the tea to make flavored kombucha or should I go ahead and make a new batch?
I’d make a new batch. The original tea is great to use as a scoby hotel for storing all your scobys though
I got the book and I just love it there is also Information that I never knew Thank You
Yes it’s such a great book
Liked, subbed and cant wait to make some.
As a "newbie", I've just harvested my 6th batch of "booch and flavoring each batch has been just as exciting as being able to make my own at home. My latest flavoring concoctions came from my rhubarb harvest that I turned into "rhubarb tea". I used a combination of the rhubarb tea and strawberry jam for 2 batches and I plan to use more rhubarb tea with apple cider for the next batch.
Here in Alaska, I will soon have a harvest of lingon berries (similar in taste to cranberries) and rose hips that will be used as flavorings in future batches also. As you pointed out this is really simple and fun when you explore the ingredients that are all around you. Thanks for sharing your tips!
this is so awesome!!! don't you love the flavoring part?! its honestly my favorite. so many great things. Keep up the great work!
So helpful 💞💓💗
Hello I’m excited to learn how to make this stuff here.
It’s so good
Great quality video!
Thank you
Thank you :) I had been reading about your water filter, an hour before finding your channel, was pleased to see you using it. I might be following you in all things :)
Thanks Peter!!!
The berkey is so amazing!!!!
We’ve been using ours for years!
Thank you
Thank you!
You’re welcome
Looks delicious
It is! Thank you
So, Im from Bulgaria and live in Austria. People in foreign countries dont use the herb Satureja. Neither for food nor to spice up their lifes in general, whilst we Bulgarians love yoghurts and satureja. So going the next step into probiotics to Kombucha was an easy step. I made some following your tip with the 1/4 spoon spice and added Satureja and boy do all my relatives and friends love some carbonated satureja kombucha.
thank you so much, just came back to leave a few comments for the algorithm cus youve helped me so much over the past month.
Oh thank you so much! Appreciate that! As well as the feedback Synday.
Glad I could be of help to you.
Thank you for giving me, (US) a peep into the lives of another culture.
Hi friend! Writing you a note! Your kitchen is lovely! 😍
Hi friend!!!!! Thank you!!!!
You should have a letter arriving soon
thank you so much for this great video! How long can it be kept in the fridge?
And also how long can a scoby live?
You’re great and so easy to watch :) Thanks for the tips. Is lemon or lime ok for flavoring? Or will the acidity kill the ferment
They make lemon and lime kombucha, so I feel like it would be ok.
I have never made a 💯 lime or lemon one so I can’t speak to that. But I do mix it with other flavors (raspberry, strawberry, ginger) and it’s always turned ok great!
I've replayed the 1st few seconds over & over. I saw a floating thingy moving in the center of the jar! Making this is like being in science class again. I've grown a scoby...yay! I'm here to get flavoring tips. I tried a molasses, ginger store bought flavored kombucha (it was delish). I had some leftover molasses & wanted to know if I could use that for my flavored kombucha as a sugar to feed off of? Do you get the carbonation from the original brew or the flavored only? I haven't tried the original bc I'm new to this. Thank you😊
Excellent tutorial, thank you! I would caution re second fermentation in a mason jar, please ensure it's pressure safe, not all of them are. Also, for first time fermenters, take it easy, start off with a shot glasses instead of big glasses, it takes your system some getting used to, as home brew is said to be more potent than store bought.
Hey have you done blueberry basil. Im wondering what some of thr flavors you have tried.
Thank you for providing a wonderful video explaining everything so well. With a bottle that size just wondering do we need to consume the kombucha within a certain amount of time once ready.
Nope. Take your time. Once the air tight lids are on and they are in the fridge they last awhile
@@homemadeonourhomestead that's wonderful 🙂
Thank you so much! How long does it last once you put it in the refrigerator?
Also wondering this!
Funnels matter
How long cam you leave the glavoured kombucha in the fridge after its beem opened. Thanks for your videos. Great info for beginners
Very helpful. I am in my third flavoring. What is the title and author of the book you referred to?
Hi. My scobie is dark brown in colour. Is this from the black tea that I have used. Do I need a fresh one as the ones in my jar are several years old.
Love your videos. I was wondering how come your brew and scoby are so light in color. Mine is dark but it is good but still is there something I could do to keep my brew and scoby so nice and clean?
Hi there! Thanks for the question. Sometimes using a mix of green tea and black tea helps with color. Using only green tea will also keep the scoby lighter. My Scobys get dark the older they are. The more batches they have brewed and the more times they have sat in a black tea mixture the darker they get (I have found). I use my scobys 2-3 times before they are repurposed so they tend to stay very light.
Hello, my wife and indeed myself, we are enjoying your channel, so, thank you for sharing. I have a question, if you would be so kind. You use filtered water, can I use distilled water, or is that to sterile? Thank you.
You know I’ve honestly never tried making my kombucha with distilled water. I use my berkey water filter for all my brewing. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work however. I’d give it a try. If you are using a bottled raw kombucha from the store, it should work to get your scoby and start your brew
Lovely video! I am going to start the kombucha making process soon, and I have a noob question; after its ready to drink and flavoured, do i still need to continue releasing gas as it sits in the fridge? Or has it finished fermenting after 24 hours?
After you’ve removed the fruit and fermented, you’re good to go.
Still be careful when openin the bottle though. The carbonation will still be there.
@@homemadeonourhomestead Thank you , also had this question. Mine is just now in the cupboard. See you all in 1 week!
I added a TBL fresh lemon and a TBL Lavender simple syrup based on a different video I saw from someone else. I am using a swing top bottle. It's very warm in my house and has been 2 days and it doesn't seem to be carbonating. Is that because I didn't use enough fruit juice?
Hi and thank you. Why can you not use frozen fruit ? What difference does it make ?
What liquid do you use for your scoby hotel? I just got done making my own scoby (thanks to your tutorial!) And I'm going to use it to start a batch of kombucha tomorrow. Do I use the liquid from creating the scoby for the scoby hotel? Thank you!
Yes exactly! And then every time I make a batch of tea/sugar mixture to brew my kombucha I take some of that liquid and put it in the scoby hotel so my scobys have something to feed off of to stay healthy and happy.
@@homemadeonourhomestead thank you so much!!! I never thought I'd be able to handle making my own kombucha, but your tutorials are so easy to follow! I appreciate it so much!
Might want to mention that you should wash your hands well before removing scoby.
So, you don't need a Scoby to make Kombucha if you have some store bought, to start? How long will the old Scoby's last and where do you put them? Thank you, enjoy your video.
Kim
is it okay to use a juice that have a preservative??
Hi, great video. Where can I get that big bottle shown at 0:26?
That bottle was a former XL bottle of GT's kombucha that I've had for a couple years. I believe its a 1 gallon size. I bough it at the grocery store.
Hi, thanks for the video. I'm a newbie here and plan to learn how to make kombucha at home. I have a couple of question! 1) with the remaining kombucha liquid, can I put it back to the scoby hotel? 2) in making the first scoby, what's the temperature best to ferment the kombucha?
Great questions!
1. Yes you can put the liquid back into the scoby hotel.
2. As long as it’s above 40-50 degrees you can make kombucha. Lower temps just will take longer to ferment and produce a new scoby but it’s still possible.
Hope this helps :)
I think I’ve read low 80 degrees works best for the fermentation.
But mine does fine at normal temperatures of my house which is usually 70-75
Can u use an apple cider vinegar scobie take a kombucha
Love your video, oops I put frozen fruit in my second ferment I hope will be ok ??🙏
It will be ok. I just found the fruit flavor isn’t as strong
@@homemadeonourhomestead thank you for answering ❤
Hi, I've just made my kombucha for the first time but I've made it with tap water by mistake, will it be ok?
❤
Thank you
Put your bottle in a bowl or plate to catch what comes out of you bottle when opening 😊
💖
Thank you
How do you manage to get your remaining floating fruits out from that glass bottle with so little opening?
I’ve been making kombucha for a few months now. I’m proud of my scobies! But... being so new to me...is my kombucha supposed to taste like apple cider vinegar? It’s hard for me to drink! Thanks for your input.
The longer it ferments, the more vinegary tasting it becomes. Try pulling your tea sooner (bottling and flavoring). See if that helps. Mine becomes vinegary when it’s over fermenting. I don’t care for that either. Hope this helps :)
have you ever experimented with mixing in shrub to the kombucha as a flavoring?
No I haven’t. But I’m intrigued and that sounds super interesting. Please keep us all posted if you do that. I’d love to know how it turns out
@@homemadeonourhomestead absolutely I will - yes Im curious if the two cultures would cancel each other out or if they would enhance. :)
Me gustaria saber en español gracias
As an aside, the best kombucha I ever had was hopped grapefruit flavor!
Would it kill the probiotic if I diced it up and froze a scoby to then use in smoothies?
You shouldn't be consuming a scoby... wtf
My second brew didn’t get fizz. Is it safe to drink? Is it because the kids may not have been tight enough?
If the lid isnt air tight it wont get super carbonated but it is still safe to drink. Just wont have the extra carbonation
Hello, I do not want to wait very much because my purpose is to get probiotics asap therefore I just boiled cabbage then made it like a puree by blender and then added sea salt cumin black pepper and veniger and sugar ( to accelerate fermentation) and put it on the radiator. In how many days do you guess it will ferment? Everybody makes apple cider veniger in 3 months I also make it in 3 days. I just exract the apple juice and add sugar ground wheat and chickpeas and put it in yoghurt machine in 3 days there will be a layer of mother of veniger on the top which shows I have achieved it
How many days can they last in the fridge once made?
If you like carbonation. Use fruit puree or juice. You will likely not get any where near the carbonation with sliced fruit.
How long is the shelf life of a flavoured kombucha? Thank you!! 🥰
And do you have to stored it in the fridge or just countertop will be fine? Thanks again!! 🙏🥰
💌
Thank you
Can I use any flavored kombucha to make the scoby?
Sure can :)
What are those plastic bottles you have ? I don't want to get swingtops if that's gonna be cheaper
@Lucas M not all plastic is made equal especially in regards to carbonation and pressure
Anyone try tart cherry concentrate?
Super good.
Is it hard to get all the leftover fruit out of the small opening after it’s adsorbed the liquid ?
Nope. The fruit starts to ferment and gets super super squishy.
You can also just use fruit juice. That works great too! Hope this helps.
I put my kombucha in the kitchen sink on it's first opening, any run over liquid is not a problem
Yes good tip
Ceylon cinnamon 🇱🇰 🥰
Yes!!!
Open in a bowl to catch anything released.
Is Kombucha safe to drink during pregnancy?
Wondering, what will happen if I leave the fruity batch in the fridge for more than 24-36 hours? Will it explode? Do you not recommend it?
It won’t explode. It will be ok just might be extra fizzy
holy smokes thats a lot of scobys
i love yout
Why can’t I use fruit that I froze from fresh?
Did she say you can't? I didn't hear her say that so maybe just maybe you can
I was going to attach a picture of my little scoby hotel but can't figure out how
sadly i dont know if you can attach pictures but Im so excited for you!!! Great job
I'm wondering how all of that fruit is removed from the bottle. It looks like it'd be extremely difficult with the small opening. I've never used whole fruit for this very reason.
I was wondering the same,😂😂 until I did my first kombucha. I realized you actually easily get it out since it softens during the fermentation!!😊
What is Kombucha?
Probiotic rich fermented tea beverage. Super healthy and good for you.
@@homemadeonourhomestead thank you!
Your welcome :)
Why do I not want to put frozen fruit to my kombucha?
I have heard that doing so can shock it therefore it won’t ferment the same.
I have tried it once, didn’t feel like the results were as good either. Better fruit flavor when fruit is fresh. But it’s personal preference
@@homemadeonourhomestead ok thanks! I had just dropped frozen berries into my bottle of kombucha 5 min before I heard you say not to.😂
she has that kombucha body
Having done an extensive amount of research on brewing kombucha - you are setting people up for failure with a few things in this video.....
Don't fill the bottles all the way, you need headspace for the carbonation. Secondly, you should NOT be using mason jars, they aren't rated for the pressure of the kombucha carbonation, and more likely will lead to shattered and exploding jars.
