I have spent hundreds of hours snorkeling with salmon. They don't seem to mind cuts and pokes from hooks at all, but they suffer terribly from scrapes to their eyes. These eye abrasions get infected a couple of days after the release and the half blind fish just find a spot to hide and stay there till they die. They usually don't end up spawning. Fish don't have eye lids, use a net or release in a few inches of water please.
The fella interviewed said it right, this isn't fishing its harvesting. Dfo should re assess this method. Im very fortunate to fish in open water from a kayak!
The lack of respect is completely disregarded here. They should have their license suspended. And seriously wtf are they wearing hip waders for? Release those fish in the fucking water !!! 🤬
The problem is education. There really needs to be a coarse on fishing similar to the hunting course that should be completed before you can buy a license!
Same issue off many of the NY/PA Great Lake Tribs . Gone are the days of respect for the fish ….or other fisherman. Actually have witnessed fist fights break out on the river. SAD
I'm sorry why did you buy waders? And ffs revive the fish, give it a chance!! It just ran a marathon and needs some time to recover. Institute a freaking test with licensing. I've been emailing about testing for 18 years. Deaf ears.
Maybe you can educate them on handling the fish? And you’re using the term “flossing “ loosely….all them fish we’re in the mouth…nothing wrong with that, flossing itself is only a theory
We camped and fished the first weekend in October and got checked by fisheries and he told us they checked someone up river that morning who killed a fouled fish right in front of them and when they checked him he already had 2 dead chinook. He told us they took all 3 fish and all of his fishing gear and gave him almost $1000 in fines
Yes, but it raises some questions. Can you explain how drifting a long leader and yanking the rod when you feel tension on the rod increases the likelihood of hooking a fish inside the mouth rather than outside? Flossing often results in hooking fish in areas that, according to regulations, require the fish to be released. I know it is legal, although in my opinion it shouldn't since I see inconsistent making illegal snagging and legal flossing (which lots of times snag a fish). Ps: I am not any of those two types of fisherman. Just exposing the facts the way they are. I don't judge if someone is flossing in the river since it is legal. I just criticize the inconsistencies in the regulations.
@ yes, I have done that fishery. And I understand your point. But also it is correct to say, in my opinion, that the method raises questions given other existing regulations
people that plan to go fishing knowing there going to floss fish. are bottom of the barrel humans not fishermen. I tell my kids to avoid these fisheries because there a absolute joke.

Nice to see DFO out there

It’s called ignorance
Agree! But I will say the problem is punishment! After few big punisment and media cover all will be fixed.
All those people and no nets? WTf 🤬
Good to see the Rangers out there

Landing net should be mandatary
you are beyond clueless
That makes me so freaking mad. Personally, I would also explicitly make flossing illegal in the fishing rules. But I know it’s not gonna happen
They came to Canada to enjoy a better life - and introduce us to their centuries old culture ?
Just lend them a net and help a bit, this will give these poor fish a better chance of survival.

I'm usually soaked from being in the water letting them go. I have a net but it's 17×19 a little small for most salmon
I agree with those comments that you should educate them rather than just condescendingly shaming them.
Agree
This is not fishing
-What kind of salmon is that?
-Chum.
- Beautiful.
Zombies are Beautiful😅
-
😂😂😂
Coho are more beautiful when silver
Why don’t you educate and help them… tsk tsk …
What kind of salmon is that 😂😂😂😂
Typical day on the Puyallup River.
Why isn’t anyone saying or explaining to the guys
the afficers control the fishing license ???
Yes
I stop fishing out there due to this poor respect for the fish, they should be Fined and licence taken away for 5 years

Open the f'ing Fraser. How about that concept.
I agree!
nice to see the dfo to bad they dont seize the law breakers gear
they never do a thing, they are just a farce in clown costumes, as they like it in the Liberal govt

It amazes me no one has a net? #numbskulls
Clown show...
Disgusting 🤮
fossing is legal. get over yourselves. let me guess you are a fly fisherman or pinhead. Only those 2 groups are so arrogant and judgemental.

@@jorgemartinez-compains8369 You ever fish for sockeye on the fraser? If yes you know what I'm talking about. If no it's pointless..

I’d like to meet up with you sir and kindly explain to you why flossing shouldn’t be a thing.
