    At least you did it. Isn't that 90% of the fun?

      Yep! I always say building stuff is more fun than owning it.

    Epic build Diecaster D. Some really massive casting! I think you could make a fancy motor speed controller to see the speed every 1/4 or 1/16 revolution and then automatically regulate it. I think it is quite easy when you know how but my knowledge of electronics isn't there yet.
    I just got my lathe going this week. But the cross slide needs to be cleaned and set up. I wanted a lathe, now all i need is a project!

      Yeah, I definitely have plans to improve the platter, motor and speed control, but as far as my knowledge of electronics... let's just say I barely know how to wire a motorcycle battery to a VHS camera. Congrats on the lathe! I'm sure you'll find something to build.

    Respect! Looks like you've had great fun doing this, although much of the project seems a bit Gung-Ho But it does appear to meet your demands as an effect-tool, so if you're happy, more power to you!
    I'd certainly take an existing motor and match the platter in weight to the original. I'd also have the new parts CNC-machined, and as for the tonearm maths, I'd either copy the original setup or use the calculations on the turntablebasics site, regarding tonearm lengths, overhang, et al.
    (I'm currently working on a DJ-Set of my own 45rpm/7" only DDs for reasons given on classic45s. Mind you, not for scratching, but for playing choice 45's with a strong emphasis on sound and the occasional beatjuggling, acappella blends, etc., so pitch control and start/stop is all that's needed. No Serrato, all analog).

    That centre ball bearing on the platter would introduce a lot of wow & flutter (vibration), maybe check out how Linn or Rega do it, they're so precise & highly polished that a couple of drops of oil down the spindle shaft and it'll take a few minutes for the platter to settle on the bottom of the bearing fascia.
    It's precision engineering that makes great turntables, almost all the best sounding are belt drive as it removes motor vibration effecting the platter, Rega use a large 0 ring.
    1200's are the best for DJ'ing (I've sold a lot) but Rega's sound better & a Linn, WELL you'll swear the musicians are live.
    But hey good on ya for having a go you could always fit another tone arm like an SME & see how it compares to yours, good luck!

    Good effort... Much appreciate... im trying to convert my pt-01 portable into a full sized turntable :D

    • @greensnmachines
      @greensnmachines  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! That sounds difficult, like make full sized platter and everything?

      @@greensnmachines for not i will just use an old existing belt driven platter. so basically remove the belt drive and install direct drive.

      @smart spy: You probably know by now that the center of the bottom of the platter is an integral part of the DD, putting a beltdrive platter on top of a DD motor won't work.

    Mprenproof not all heroes wear capes. Awesome project man. I used to have 1200s and have just now been looking into numark pt01, and of course mods. I have a couple of friends with foundrys and I have some experience in casting so looking a few ideas up found this. It's seriously cool. Great to see all the challenges and workarounds. Maybe for a platter or case upgrade I'll use sheet and brazing 🤔
    Mainly I just want pitch knobs that don't require tweezers, and a bit more stability/durability.
