I just built this, tapered cherry legs for some Japanese style shelves. Works very well. Corrected the one I screwed up by hand! Many thanks for your video
Just finished ‘cleaning up’ the 8 pieces I cut on the band saw. Then thought there had to be a better way. Searched YT for options and saw the WWGOA taper jig tutorial. Voila! Gotta get one! Do a quick search and see prices are $125+.... then I see this! MEGA THANKS! Now, for maybe $5-10 (I have most of the parts already), I get to have fun building something AND I’ll have a taper jig! 👍🏻👍🏻
I had made a similar jig but it was not but a third the height of my fence, it worked but I constantly had to replace the stop block, cutting through it when I cut my pieces. Your design is Great, love how you align the mark on the piece with the groove then adjust your jig to the board. Never thought of that. Thanks
That's a great way to cut the slots for the adjustable arms. I would have been fiddling with a router or trying to cut them with a plunge cut on a table saw or jigsaw.
I believe I've had a taper jig for about 15 years. I think I use it about once every 5 years, nice when you need it but I don't need it often that's for sure.
He knows how to get you to notice his name "DP Make Stuff" by taping over it so you cannot see it... and then a little later taking the tape off revealing it! VERY SMART MAN!
And the hinge screws hold in the end grain ok ? I always drilled out and plugged in a dowel to give it side-grain strength. Nice project, thanks for sharing.
How do you think this tapering jig would work on my Radial Arm saw for tapering 30 inch long boards, 3/4 inch thick? The taper needs to be from one corner of a 6 inch wide board to the opposite corner at the other end. that will make two equal-size boards, 6 inches on one end to a zero point on the other.
Every man and his dog are making jigs for a rarely needed cut. You will need a large jig house if you keep making custom jigs for every triviality. Jigs to you.
Cool jig but watch out using the back stop as the full pushing force. pushing on the back right corner alone will twist the board counterclockwise and may cause a kickback.
That could indeed be dangerous, if you're tapering some wider boards for example, and only push it from the far side, and it starts to turn. For these kind of narrower ones, I think it's not an issue.
Another way to make the brackets (edit- if you don't have a bandsaw) is to rip the wood down to the thickness of the frame, and cut each side to length on the miter saw, then just glue them together to form the bracket.

I have watched this video at least 4 times, purchased the plans a few days ago and now will be making it today. Thanks for sharing.
Best and simplest way to set your angle with the miter slots. Genius.

I bought your plans, and made this taper jig. It worked like a charm! I am building some wheelchair ramps for a family member. Thank you!!!
Nice jig... Awesome video production. It shows what's needed, without all of the superfluous garbage in most videos!
+Dustin Penner brilliant vid. No wasted time, only relevant info communicated, straight to the point. Excellent.
+Nicknamed Sin I try my best! Thanks you!

Appreciated the method for cutting the mill slots. Never would have done that myself, but still pretty clever!
Ben Hart normally I’d run an operation on the CNC for that but it’s always fun to show other ways to do it. Thank you for watching!

Finally a taper jig that I think I can make with parts available in Australia, and that feel safe using. Thanks.
Excellent!
I need to take the time and make this, I keep making solid one for a specific job and then toss them. Thanks for reminding me.
Making one of these today!!...love the simplicity and functionality of the design...well done!!
very straightforward jig and easy to use. very nice
Impressive. A nicely done video, and appropriate sound effects. Thanks
Awesome jig, thanks for sharing!
Great, another silent movie. Totally worth it for those of us with visual impairment. 1:38
Make your own videos then. Don’t shit on mine because I didn’t account for every human on planet earth. Grow up.
Nice little jig Dustin!
They always say, simplest is best. Now i know its true, thank you
You are a king for this video
Nice and simple and awesome!
I had no idea what you were doing with the bandsaw till you were done. I never would've thought to do it that way.
me either, i would have just used my router. i wondered the same thing
Fantastic the best and easiest one on UA-cam
How on earth can someone give this great video a thumbs down??
Brilliant design and build video.

So simple and practical, great idea, thank you very much for sharing. 👍👍👍
Very nice Dustin. Wish I had that Jig when I made my tapered leg stool. Thumbs up.
how SIMPLE it is!!!!!!!!!!! LOLLLLLLLLL Tx for the hack my friend!!!!! :D
Awesome ! I am building this tomorrow.
You made it looks so easy. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Made my first one about 25 yrs ago and they work great!
I want a DiResta jacket! 😊
Great jig! The mill slots were genius!
+traderjoes Thanks! Any jacket can be a DiResta jacket with his stencil haha! I was going to CNC the slots but figured people would complain too much.
Looks like a good way to get the parts of a wooden sailboat mast cut to a proper taper on a small boat build.
Hi! Fantastic! Simple! Eficiente! And very chipset... Tanks a lot. Brazil Minas Gerais.
+Lourenco Santiago Obrigado!
Excellent taper jig will build it soon thanks.
I put aluminum channel on mine to make it more stable, you had a better idea with the center brace. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah that's a good idea. My center link could be removed to increase the travel if need be. Thanks for watching!

Master work >>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Thanks!

I love you videos. thus is simple and looks handy. Plus everyone I watch one I him the music the whole time I a making stuff. it's catchy.
This guy works quick!
Simple and very functional. Thank you very much.
He knows how to get you to notice his name "DP Make Stuff" by taping over it so you cannot see it... and then a little later taking the tape off revealing it! VERY SMART MAN!
Now I gotta make a new taper jig. Thanks!
Great video. Whose music are you using. Great Music!
Very good solution! simple and effective, that's what makes it great!

Excellent!
+Dustin Penner FIY, just tried to buy ur plans and got an error when I clicked the buy button.
I'll try later and let you know if it happens again.
+Simple DIYr yeah let me know if you have any issues. This is my trial run for selling plans so I need to get things running smoothly.
Simple DIYr I'll refund you after the purchase too.
+Dustin Penner It worked this time smoothy. And don't worry about the refund brotha. You saved me a few dollars today ;-)
Why I dind´t think in that??? Fantastic...
Dope jig Dustin.
Wow!!!!!
This is so great!!
This is so awesome... many thanks!
Very nice work
Simple and useful,
Thanks
Good job. I was able to make one automatic that works on 12 volt
Cool jig and you have Jimmy Diresta coat.
And to think I've had access to one of these for the past 10 years but I never knew what it was for..lol anyway great video. Consider me a subscriber.
What about making those slot pieces with an "L" shaped slot so that you could fold them flat when you closed the jig?
darn good for legs cool, thanks
Its hand and cheap! thanks for watching!
Очень понравилось Ваше видео. Вы супер.
Great video and nice editiong!
Digging it man. Works like a hot damn.
Nicely done!
What an ah ha moment with the setting of the taper with the miter slots.
And the hinge screws hold in the end grain ok ? I always drilled out and plugged in a dowel to give it side-grain strength. Nice project, thanks for sharing.
8 screw pre drilled into Baltic birch ply. It's fine.
awesome work

Great job!! - video is great and thanks for sharing :)
Thanks!
Cool jig but watch out using the back stop as the full pushing force. pushing on the back right corner alone will twist the board counterclockwise and may cause a kickback.
It's a very stable jig, but care should always be taken on the tablesaw. Regardless of the tool, jig or operation. Thanks
Why? I can't visualize it
That could indeed be dangerous, if you're tapering some wider boards for example, and only push it from the far side, and it starts to turn. For these kind of narrower ones, I think it's not an issue.
Beleza , excelente ideia, obrigado.
Great video on how to lose your fingers.
Don’t like your own comments, Jim. It shows the internet you’re a twat.
Great! Thanks a lot!
very nice cheap and effective. good job!
one question: could you let me know the title of soundtrack?
+dorado65 Thanks! I don't remember the name of the song or I would happily share it with you!
Parabéns Mestre Dustin, muito bom esta Jig !!!
Very cool ! 👍

Very nice!
why would you need a taper jig when you have the means (electric saw / circular saw) to make the taper ?
What is the large round depth stop used for those counter sunk holes?
That is a countersink. Check out toolstoday.com and tell them I sent you haha!
Awesome! Will do!
Nice ... good idea ....
Thanks very much!
great work :)
Nice work :)
