    Andy- your videos fill the gap between reading instructions and looking at pictures and actually being able to look at the machine parts and managing the implementation of the "fix". I love watching and listening to your explanations, your mentioning of mistakes that can be made and all the other small comments you make. Your good humor and chuckling about the machine or the issues just adds to the enjoyment of watching the video. For those of us who LOVE to figure out and fix things (I'm a 75 year old grandmother) you set new goals by taking apart/explaining/and then remediating issues with a machine. SO GLAD you are back online with us.--your loyal fans. The cracked plastic gear issue is the death of many machines so this really demonstrates that it can be fixed and to follow with the clear and precise explanation of setting timing is wonderful- I'm going back to other videos now to watch more of your videos about timing- the insertion of the close up pictures is great too. THANK YOU!

    Thanks for sharing your helpful hints and stuff. I don't have this model...but I like to think there are certain things that are definitely transferable....like the tension of the belt. Makes sense to not stress the motor nor the belt...but to allow them both to function with the least amount of friction so they both last longer....sounds like marital advice. Haha!

    Hello, Andy:
    Your videos have helped me fix more than one machine. Thank you for that!
    I bought a completely stuck Singer 477 to fix. While lubricating and putting back the Stitch Length selector dial, the protruding plastic shank where the Stitch Length selector dial rests broke into many pieces. It was fine when it arrived. I wrote to Vintage Singer Parts, but they don't carry that piece.

    It only sews backwards. Except for the push button, everything seems to work fine now. Do you know of someone making this piece?

      It's a 55-year-old machine. I promise no company is making that part. We usually have to find an online seller who is "parting out" a machine. I usually find them on eBay but there are other places too. If I find a seller who has some parts for the model but not the exact part I need I will often contact them with what I need. Many have no idea how to take something like a dial off so I have to give instructions. www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_dkr=1&iconV2Request=true&_blrs=recall_filtering&_ssn=dese_7679&store_cat=0&store_name=part1solution&_oac=1&_nkw=477
      By the way, this is not a group or forum site, so you can't send along pictures. Thanks for saving the machine, I hope you can find the part.

    Hey Andy, it’s 4:30 am here in south Texas and look what I wake up to when I go to grab my phone ❤️, a new Andytube video! Well, it’s not related to this particular model, but I was thinking about you yesterday because I recently acquired a Singer 128 this weekend and of course I ran to UA-cam looking for a playlist of yours. I was surprised that you didn’t have one for this particular model. Do you have a playlist for a similar model that I can pick up some tips on? Oh, I learned too what a BT7 motor is, it has one. I had no clue how to put the belt on that thing until I went back and looked at the video I made when I brought the machine home and saw how it was sitting on there. Well let me go grab my coffee and get my day started. Take care.

      @@andytubesewing1953 thanks Andy! Yeah, she’s 104 years old and doesn’t have the reverse feature. She also has the elongated bobbin which of course has a pretty neat bobbin winding system. I cleaned her up, but it looks like she needs some minor adjustments before she gets to stitching. It was fun but not my favorite compared to my 99k, Spartan and my 15-90 and of course my rocketeers! It was good to find your video today and thanks for the info, I’ve got some reading to do.

    I get binding if I pinch the hook and the tooth pully together and tighten the screws. Slight difference on my Singer 348 to your 466.
    The binding is intermittent, my fix is to leave just a very slight bit of endplay clearance. This tends to happen if the machine stops at at the binding point then I start to sew slow, then I have to give it more power to start sewing.
    Initially I thought the binding was elsewhere on the machine, however when I let it have that slight end float clearance no binding.
    Is there anything I should check with the hook and tooth gear that might be causing this slight binding .

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  Рік тому

      I've not had that before, but I guess I'd try retightening the set screws evenly. Try tightening them like lug nuts on a car wheel. I mean back and forth between them tightening a little at a time (once they are close to the shaft) so they are evenly on the shaft, even that makes any sense. (no sure how else to decribe it)
      One time on my first 347 I tightened one setscrew like 95% b/c I di not what the shaft to move and loose timing, then the second screw 100% and back to the first to 100%. I noticed during testing that the hook "wobbled" a little and I'd never seen that. My auto mechanic friend suggested the "even tightening" method and that fixed the wobble.
      My othe though is a bent hook shaft. I have never had that, but a veiwer shared he did have that on a 401A. He pulled the hook out and discoverd a slight bend. No idea how that could have happend but he bought a used hook from eBay and that fixed his intermittent binding he had been fighting.
      Lastly, and maybe this should have been first, dried oil in bushings can make little hard bumps on the low side of how the machine was stored. The shaft rotating in the bushing binds when it hits the bump "spot" just a little. That is usually on the larger arm shaft or verticle shaft but I guess it could happen on the hook shaft. You did oil the hook bushing/shaft right? that litte hole on the top of the hook below the bobbin case?
      You can try more oil there while running the machine at a moderate speed for 3 to 5 minutes to see if you can "clean" the bushing vs removing the whole hook.
      Hope I'm not sending you down any rabbit holes but those are my thoughts. Good luck.

    Andy, I have a Singer 99 that’s on a sewing table. I have worked for a week trying to get it to sew right. It’s threaded right, the bobbin is in right , the needle has been changed, it’s been oiled. I’ve done everything I can think of and it still has loose threads when I sew with it. The upper thread is the worst. It’s not bird nesting any more, just very loose threads. I have had the tension set on every number to see if that’s the problem and it made no difference. It’s now on 4. I’ve worked with the bobbin tension to see if that would help and nope, it didn’t. I can’t think of anything else to do to it. You got any suggestions ? It’s driving me nuts !

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  Рік тому

      90% of the time it is a tension problem so you're on the right track by t4esting that, but maybe the wrong approach. I have an entire playlist of videos for model 99 here: ua-cam.com/play/PLsCOZgzzaiKIIUgkEujqHc9iNWN9NPW2Z.html
      You'll find a video all about the needle thread tension unit, which yours may be dirty or not zeroes out. You'll find a video about all the bobbin area parts. I have a special video about cleaning and (properly) adjusting a Class 66 bobbin case like the one on your machine. ua-cam.com/video/HT5XZ5eYYEQ/v-deo.html Those are the three areas I would look at. Try and be methodical in your approach and take your time as that can often save you a lot of time and frustration in the long run. Good Luck, JJ.
