    I have a Singer 347 that has a stripped out screw in the front cover plate, too. For smallish complex steel parts with lots of nooks and crannies, I blow dry them first as best I can, and then give them a shot of WD-40 to drive out any last vestiges of moisture. this prevents rusting until it get to working on them further.

    You brave man! Next level is dunking the whole machine in a ultrasonic cleaner.
    Actually, some people do it. Others use a steamcleaner to get the gunk out.

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  10 місяців тому +1

      If I had a large enough tank I'd be interested in the ultrasonic method. I'm sure there are several other methods that could work. I had a viewer tell me just "Sprays the H**L out of it with brake cleaner". I settled on the Krud Kutter wash method because it is a water-based earth-friendly cleaner. not expensive, requires no special equipment or volatile chemicals, and does a great job. I've never seen a video of using a large ultrasonic cleaner or steam on a sewing machine. Thanks for watching.

      I have to agree! Even though I like the PA motors in the slant machines better, I have to say these open SNK motors are very tough.

    Thank you, Great video. I have this model, which I bought at a yard sale about 15 yrs ago. It worked, but sat all this time unused. But… I don’t think I’ll ever be brave enough to bathe/shower these machines… I’ll stick to the good old wipe downs.

      That's very handy! I can't find a local seller. There is one sewing center about a 90-mile round trip away. He charges $1.50 per cushion but the gas is more than shipping. I met the owner of one of the ACE stores in my town and asked about carrying the cushions, tires, spool pins, etc but he says they would never sell enough of them to justify the hassle. Like everything else, the cost of cushions is ridiculous now.

When I went to test the motor afterward I tried to sound calm and confident, but for sure I was holding my breath, wearing my safety glasses, leaning way back, and had a fire extinguisher on the floor next to me.👀 Whew! So happy 😀it worked well. I'm cleaning covers and will be putting it all back together for adjusting/testing, but so far so good. A very nice model and a tough little motor. Thank you! I appreciate the nice comment. Yes back when singer had stores they would sell their machines for a small down payment and monthly or even weekly payments in the early years when people quit paying they would send a man out to pick up the machine and repossess it. You don't see it too often anymore and that's why I left the sticker on there. There's a couple problems on the machine but they were minor and inside. I could tell from the condition and the where that the machine have barely been used even if the outside was pretty dirty

    Hi there Maestro. I'm always looking for a 327k, 328k or 329k at flea markets but no luck to date. Another interesting model I'm obsessed with is model 226 made in Utsunomiya Japan a real beauty.

      Greetings, my friend in Ags. I recently saw a 226 on an auction site here. I've had people ask about it before. It was not sold in the US as far as I can tell. I've never been able to find documents. I've had a couple of viewers ask about it, both found theirs in California. Apparently made in Japan and different versions that could use a treadle, handcrank, or external motor. www.singersewinginfo.co.uk/226u There is some info and videos available online when I searched. I don't know the availability of parts, etc. It looks amazing in pictures. You may like to keep in mind a 347/348. I'm trying to find one to revisit it. I've worked on 3 or 4 but in a hurry. I feel it was underappreciated and it is a much better everyday machine than most people realize.
      You're in a tough spot to find what you're looking for, I think. Know anyone in California? Nice hearing from you and regards to Mrs. Ags and family.

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  11 місяців тому +4

      I did not stop water from entering the connections or the lamp socket or light switch. All of that is copper, bronze of plastic. A quick wash and a long drying and no harm is done. I took the light switch off to inspect it, and the terminal for the cords. All dry with no damage. I've done an entire motor after soaking it in dirty water for 25 hours. (maybe you saw that video?) Washed it and dried it and it works great, so 5 minutes of water did not worry me. While washing the covers with dish soap I washed the motor belt with the KK and it is good. The key is to dry-dry-dry all the parts quickly after washing. Thanks for your question, and for watching my video.
