Honda SP160 First Ride Review | Better Than Unicorn?

- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- hi guys, here's my First Ride Review of the new Honda SP160 where I give you a detailed overview of the specs, features, price, mileage, and other details, and also share my city ride impression in a motovlog.
Even honda cb 300r gets the same instrument cluster, Its is true that they say japanese bike manufacturers are only good / intrested in making good mechanical parts like chassis, engine refinement ,they dont know other innovations to make different bike
Correct..that's why they have less sales compared to others
Japanese products only can be batter if they are manufactured in japan(with toyota production systeam) ,we are alsi and kamchor
No they don't care about Indian market. In South America and SEA, even cb150r comes with color tft
I was planning to buy this since launch. Somehow my instinct didn't let me. Finally ended up buying a Unicorn. The sales guy said they are hardly selling 2 to 3 units every month of this.
I am also in same confusion between unicorn and sp160 , i really like the sp160 but as its sale is down i am a bit scared may be company discontinue the bike. And i have to face spare parts issue in long term.
@arun37625 close ur eyes & take unicorn. Because der is no much difference in power & performance. But unicorn has maintained legacy from 23 years. Unicorn is successful accepted in india & monthly sales of unicorn is 20,000 units whereas SP 160 has got sales report of 5,000 units per month. They will not stop SP 160 as sales is good. It is new in market & indian people will change towards SP 160 slowly in next two years. But if you are family man then unicorn is more practical bike which lasts 15 years without hassle. But sp 160 is for someone who is below 30 years & use it mostly for touring.
@@vidyasagarpatil2557 i am below 30. I don't like the look of the unicorn, specially the tail section. I was going to buy xblade but it got discontinued. Need a family bike ( single seat)as my mother will sit in the back. Don't like fzs . Lets see which fits me best. Actually if they just bike the diskbreak and a bit bigger front diskbin unicorn i will buy it
@@arun37625 in that case i will recommendyou to go for SP 160 which will meet all your expectations. Think for next 5 years amd take this bike bro. After 5 years ur requirement changes according to ur need. Don't think much beyond 5 years as today's generation bikes don't last long.
@@arun37625so which bike r u planning to buy? I'm in same stage as you 😂😂
Best bike in the segment I have recently purchaaed it and loved it
😮
How is the suspension bro, i test rode yesterday & i felt it was hard. Whereas unicorn suspension was soft
My bike has tvs tyres but company claim of MRF tyres?
@@Rohitkumar-sm9tq My Bike is having MRF tyres both front and back
@@vidyasagarpatil2557 The suspension is stiff but all and all it is very well balanced
Hey Dino! Now that the price of CB300F is very enticing, can you share it's riding experience in detail?
Nice...just one clarification.. hazard lights to be used only during hazardous situation and the vehicle is stationary... not while the vehicle is moving thru rain or snow.... this is the reason many pile ups happen..... people think hazards are on... and that the vehicles are moving.... please inform the viewers... rto to nahi karega...
Instead of Unicorn engine, they should hve plonked the hornet 2's engine with fatter tyres and commuter stance to ride ... That wud have proved to be a good upgrade for existing Unicorn owners.
Fat = lower mileage
@@georgecarlinn6288fz exists?
Yes, correct.. but it wud be meant for many of them who want a better performance but still a commuter stance @@georgecarlinn6288
this isnt unicorn engine anymore. it is already Hornet 160r engine with different tuning. Unicorn 150 was differnt engine.
As someone who is using Unicorn for past 17 years... There are still no bikes from any manufacturer that can be called a true successor or upgrade. Honda themselves tried many times to replace Unicorn but they couldn't.
More CC means lower mileage, the extra power will probably never be used by the target audience. I would like to see the larger 276mm front disk from the SP160 and the addition of rear disk brake, maybe replace the fuel meter area with a small digital console.
How is the suspension,i have a bad back and i cant ride stiff suspension
Front is superb, rear is very stiff
Go for unicorn
To be honest if anyone can justify paying that much for this bike, you're clearly not checking what the competitors are offering in the same range! Honda isn't interested in segments like this. 😂
The only purpose of this bike is for those looking at the few glaring gaps in the unicorn (skinny tyres, bad headlight) and providing an alternative. This is for someone looking at a very very reliable commuter with decent speed, low maintenance and excellent ride quality.
@@thangarajj Bro agar slow hi chahiye to why not get shine. That is value for money, this is not. Honda is behaving like they don't care, big wing flopped, they reduced the prices of cb300r by 50k, to sell it. when was the last time they launched something actually worthwhile. If you want to get just a 'commuter', for 1.40 Lacs, you must be too rich bruh. (in general). They're only surviving on activa, the shall see it coming down soon too, it too old now.
@@RahulizingBro its only competition is Bajaj pulsar N150. Other 150 and 160cc bikes are costlier than this one. TVS 2V bikes are not that much refined compared its competitors. So This Shine sp160 is not that bad as commuters. Yes its still lit bit over priced when we look at its power figure, front suspension and front tyres. But that's what Japanese are currently doing in India. They are loosing here. Bajaj RE TVS sales are continuously growing. And bro mostly 160cc bikes under 1.5 lakh in India are either pure commuters or just commuters with sports clothes.
@@Mercy789 Well, agreed to most of your point of view. However, the whole point is that are you getting the value for money or not!? This bike may suit someone in terms of thier understanding about usage and utility. Though, you'd not deny that it's not the best option for that much money. All the bikes can become good or bad, based on the treatment given by the owner. I've been using 160 4V for 03 years now 42000+ done and never had an issue in terms of revving it to top, or bumper to bumper traffic crawling. Still, people are free to choose between what suits them and what's being offered by the companies. Also, Honda is trying hard to get it, but it feels like they'll be back in some collaboration as Activa which they're surviving on, is gonna die sooner or later.
@@Rahulizing Yah I won't choose SP160 for sure. Either I would go with N150 or add some more and go with N160/ hunter/ Mt 15. The only advantage of Sp 160 over its Indian competitors is its japanese engine and its refined durable long lasting and very low maintenance.
Honda needs to provide better front suspention 37mm or more. That's the reason I bought FZ 3.0
Also front tyre is not even 90/90-17 like Pulsar Twin Disc/Apache
Apart from looks, does the larger size provide better ride quality?
Sp160 is anyday better than outdated fz 3.0
Power output comparisions between the 160CC bikes: Highest to Lowest
Apache 160 - 17.38bhp @9250 rpm
BAJAJ PULSAR 160 - 16.9BHP @9000 rpm
Hero Extreme 4V - 16.6 bhp @8500rpm
Suzuki GixerSF - 13.4 bhp @8000rpm
............
HONDA SP160 - 13.2 bhp @ 7500 rpm
............
Honda Unicorn - 12.7 bhp @ 7500 rpm
Yamaha FZ-SFI Ver 4.0 - 12.2bhp @7250 rpm
Honda should have provided atleast 14.5 BHP to 15.5BHP for the SP 160 for its sporty feel. If they wanted to emphasize on comuterish and economy factors, why create a new bike, should have facelifted the Unicorn which is 20 years old (launched in 2004?)
Ns 160 17.9
You should consider torque more than power for city or commuting purpose
@@Oatmeal4Breakfast Yes, if we consider the torque, SP160 is very close to the top competition and stading at 4th place.. just by fractions.
But by not having good amount of HP, you will soon feel end of power. Its definitely okay for basic comuterish biking.. thats why I initially said, they could have just face lifted Unicorn instead of creating a whole new bike.
Apache 160 - Torque: 14.73Nm@ 7250 rpm
BAJAJ PULSAR 160 - Torque: 14.65Nm@ 6750 rpm
Hero Extreme 4V - Torque: 14.6 NM@ 6500rpm
............
HONDA SP160 - Torque: 14.58 Nm @ 5500 rpm
............
Honda Unicorn - Torque: 14.58 N-m @5500 rpm
Suzuki GixerSF - Torque: 13.8Nm@ 6000rpm
Yamaha FZ-SFI Ver 4.0 - Torque: 13.3Nm@ 5500rpm
@@_P.K. Wow you did put on all this data. Thanks. To defend my point. For sporty feel as you said we won't need much power as long as in the confines of City traffic. And from the data sp 160 still makes almost the same amount of torque at lower revs so it should feel more sporty. Ranking wise it may be 4th in the competitors but those decimals hardly make any difference. But the lower revs. Anyway you're right about the unicorn. But I think sp160/unicorn is still the best in it's segment. Not overpriced considering the mileage and performance it offers and the refinement too. The Japanese engines are the best in efficiency. what sets Honda above Yamaha is the plastic quality. So yeah.
Unicorn is their cash cow. Rural / town people still play safe and want particularly the old unicorn.
The commuter bike should never be judged by the figures shown on spec sheet. 90% of the time rpm stays below 6k.
I'll give one most apt example from early 90s tvs-Suzukis own stable :
Supra SS 108cc 16bhp
Shogun 108cc 14hp
Samurai 100cc 7.8 hp.
These specs would indicate samurai is total garbage.
Supra / Shogun no doubt was superfun, high revving, wheelie popping machine, despite having 4 short gears they could hit 110+ kph.
While Samurai maxed out at 80+kph.
For real thrill , no doubt SS & Gun were the go-to bikes.
But on the other hand when ridden for commute. anyone would choose samurai for its smooth butter engine, effortless torque, just let clutch go it was ready to leap, torq burst occurred much early. Also, the engine was damn reliable. Could go 2L+ kms on single piston.
Same I find with these unicorn 160 engine, bhp is low but torq spread is better in low and mid range. Making better commuter & higher reliable.
Xtreme 160r vs sp 160 which will be better, does sp 160 parts will get for long time uses?
Hello there Dino bhai! Loved the review as always. Neat and precise. I have a question regarding this bike. While riding the bike, did you come across any point where you felt the gear did not upshift or the gear were stuck [Maybe in 4th gear]. I am very interested in buying this bike or the Unicorn 160, but I've heard there is a shifting problem with this very engine.
Hello Dino
Thank you for the review. I too have the same question
Hello brother. I own this bike.. yes it's there the shift prob especial in 5th gear. Fyi almost Honda bs6 engine and gearbox has this.. as per info I got once the gears are used to it or change in engine oil viscosity shifting problem will be solved almost they after 5k to 7k km this will be solved... I almost ran 3k km.. issue is reduced not solved.. hoping it will be solved soon. Otherwise it's good for commute.
@@yuvrajbalasubramaniam428 Thabk you for the help brother. I am confused now, as what should I do. I really like Honda SP 160.
@@rapperaslam try test drive your selected list of vehicles and come to a conclusion. All bikes have a negative side as well. But ensure that negative is not a bothering one for u.
Major Plus I see the engine smooth and mileage ( city I get 48-50km) highway so far mAX (55 to 58) average speed maintained 65to 70km
Major minus for me is that headlight is not up to the mRK COMPARED to other 160 segment
brands
Disclaimer: based on my riding style and my favourite speed range I commented. If u r rash driving type then mileage will be the minimum of what Honda company claims
I drove totally 3400km so far.
@@yuvrajbalasubramaniam428Which is better FZ-4 or SP 160
I'm concerned about the build quality of this bike because multiple plastic panels are used in this bike..
What's your view about the build quality of this bike?
Similar to FZ v4
Noware comparison with matured unicorn this young sp160😊😊😊 both are different purpose... though having same engine and some features are common...
which color is better sir according to you if you are observe every color
This one and full black
Red ♥️♥️
Red 🔥🔥🔥
Full Black
Pearl grey
This colour 😊
UNICORN with a rear disc brake (optional) would have been a better option anyday, according to me
The unicorn's rear tire is not wide enough, adding a disc to it increases the chances of an accident.
BS6 unicorn is not that great like BS4
At 2:17... The bolt next to the rear footrest... Is it rusting ? On a brand-new bike ? 🤫🤫
Atleast 37mm front forks and 90/90-17inch front tyre.
Should I consider N150 or SP160
Its a forward leaning posture than unicorn ???

Honda in India - 🤡
Love your videos
Does ABS comes with only Dual Disc varient or it comes with Single Disc varient too ? Kindly confirm Dinesh Bhai
Abs is mandatory for all 150cc+ bikes.
ABS is available in both models
Good styling, highly proportionate design similar to CBZ Xtreme.
Hello dino brother, may i know any updates on CBR 150 , and CBR 250 R ?
No updates boss
Anna I wished prices displayed were ex-showroom hyd rather than delhi.
Is it possible to upgrade the front tyre size of SP160?
At list 90/90/17
Let me tell you peole. In what purpose are you going to buy your Bike.? For Family purpose or for work or for Riding criusing. Some peole say Pulsar is great. I'm telling you what is good for long run and low maitenance. Good luck having a pulsar. I have honda unicorn about 10 years now riding 50000 km. No regret since then.
The word out there's Honda's quality is not like old days and only highness and unicorn are better bikes.unicorn also has some engine related issues( all are local words by workshop guys). But i'm glad that finally they ditched the old console from unicorn and gave a digital one😅
Somewhere Honda trying to copying TVS RTR 160/180 2V 🥸
Look specs company and price OK. But seating is leaning so hand and leg pain possible. Owners pls inform
Yes.. Hand bar is away from seat unlike other bikes
I bought a new honda sp160 and it has tvs tyres but company claims of mrf tyres???
How is your experience and what mileage do you get?
Great 👍
Saw many videos of your regarding SP 125 , SP 160 and Unicorn 160. I have some questions,
1. Mainly daily commute and some weekend tour with pillion. Which one to go for within these three?
2. Pillion bhari hota hai toh mono suspension me Jana chahiye ya fuel suspension me Jana sahi hoga?
3. Some says Mono suspension achha hota hai, kamar me dard nahi hota hai,,, toh kharcha kya mono suspension me jyada hota hai?
4. If I ask you to choose between SP 160 and Unicorn 160, which one you choose?
5. Single channel ABS k sath kya piche bhi disk Lena sahi hoga? Skid toh nahi karega?
Please reply 🎉❤
Go for sp 160 you get good design , digital meter , abs system , sports feel ride , unicorn outdated now
Is bike main headlight power kaysa hai..?
No its poor
Dino vai pls make a video on v-strom 250 and it's actual merit & demerits, also real mileage
How much Millage?
55-60
SP160 is the worst bike ever produced by Honda. After riding the bike you feel aches in shoulder. It has gear shift problem while lowering the gear several times it failed to read gear change and poor light. After riding the bike, people started hating the brand. I am sorry for the youtuber who is not mentioning actual ride experience. It is essential Honda must to listen customer problems and make innovations and adjustment according to it. I have bought this bike recently and now planning to resell it. I have Honda Shine bike, it is the best bike ever Honda produced. However, purchasing the bike SP160 I admit I commit blunder. The worst decision. I request people please buy the bike if you want to waste your hard earned money. #SP160IsDisaster #WorstBikeEver

Would you recommend this or sp125 I don't have problem with money just want a bike to ride with a speed between 50-70 without vibration with good mileage
@@viralstore491 well the sp160 has a comfortable cruising speed of about 80kmph,after which the engine feels stressed...sp 125 has a buzz around 60 kmph...now it depends if u ride mostly in city u get the 125,but if u do mostly highways or free good condition roads go for 160...
