I love this bucket idea! Simple but effective.
Yea! It worked wonderfully. The only bad part about the bucket was sometimes when theres not enough water in the sump the k1 gets stuck on the right side
Looks sick
Thanks!
I like your set up. You can put lava rock in the bucket to hold it down which will also add more biological filtration.
Oh damn, that's a good idea! Is there a particular brand you use for lava rock? The ones I see at stores are used for BBQs and I'm a bit skeptical using it
From what I read, lava rock sold for grills is ok. I originally purchased mine at pet store 8 years ago. I haven’t had to buy any since. I would probably just check to make sure the lava rock sold for grills is cool. My guess is, it’s ok.
@@trevormcmanis oh yea that's what some people from the forums said too, pretty interesting. I'm actually in the process of building a filter for one of my buddies, and im glad you brought up lava rock; thanks!
Use 3M stick ons to secure hose to tank
I actually ended up using 3m to secure the hose to my wall 😅
Use extractor for sprinkler heads to fix pump. $10 at the depot
Well noted! I’ll keep this in mind for future projects
Can you please tell me how the Intake from the Aquarium works? What happens if there is a powercut? Doesn’t the sump overflow?
Hi, the intake from the filter sump is powered by a water pump. the water pump resides in the sump, pumps water up into the main display, then the excess gets drained down the bulkhead in the back. if you have a bulkhead that angles up, less water will be drained compared to one that is flush with the back panel of the aquarium. I have accounted for power outages by leaving a generous amount of space for excess water in the sump. This setup is completely different now. the 20 gallon in this video is now a 40 gallon long, sporting K1 on one side and a planted tank on the other. check it out in my more recent videos. I'll do a recent video break down of my sump one day
add more media bryan you have lots of space
This was a long time ago, this filter has changed since 👍
