- Homemade reciever hitch crane will fit any 2" reciever, built in 3 componets all steel construction and weighs a total of 100lbs,has a 1200lb rachet winch with 3/16 steel cable and will lift about 500lbs.a great back saver..
The scissor lift is really what makes this such a good idea. Good job
a good 12 volt winch would make this one of the best things to have.its awsome as is ,great device
The idea is good and works good for him. People will always find ways to tweak it to make it better. Part of the reason for putting it on UA-cam is see what other people think. I read a lot of the comments and none of them were real negative. There was a lot of constructive criticism and suggestions to make it better.
great Job!!! to you guys who can only criticise, knock it off! The welds will hold. were your welds always perfect????it's a good idea. He is creating, building something, passing it on. if don't like it just go on to the next tube.... keep up the good work.
I think I'm going to weld up something like this with my everlast. I really need something to help lift heavy objects. I'm too old to muscle things around anymore.
Man, that's cooler than a stepmothers kiss. Great engineering. And for all you "why not use a ramp guys" think about it. You can load anything with this setup. Like to see you roll a 500 lb. engine up your wooden ramp, or load half a pallet of concrete blocks!
I love this crane. I know I would put a lot of use in one. I will need to weld one myself with my powerarc.
+Love Chess
You may get a forklift at the big box store, But I sure as hell don't have one at the house.
@Love chess I'm one of those I could probably pick up that whole damn thing 5 minutes faster. And one of those is that cable even 500 lb rated?
I LIKE it! Putting the weight onto the dirt with an attached screw jack is clever. It looks much easier than humping up a big load and I think I have the parts laying around here, hmmm.... Thanks for the inspiration.
I love watching this kind of stuff. People putting their brains and skills to work. Everybody comes up with a different solution. It's great!
Thanks so much for posting this, what a great design. I need a lift but don't want to drill and bolt through my truck bed.
I know it is homemade...but, would buy one just like that in a heartbeat. And, install a 12v electric winch on it. Well done work there!
Chris DIYer makin a lazy mans tool lazier lol... but hey, me too 😂
hey chris, did you find out where to get on of these lifts ?
Joe Mandurano or plans for making it ?
Chris DIYer know that's rite
Check Amazon, search on " reciever hitch crane " for a few options.
Really nice DIY engineering. The scissor jack addition is really smart. Looks like it does what you need it to very well. If you don't mind, I'd like to copy your great creation for my truck and heavy lifting needs. I appreciate you making this video and showing the close-up pictures on how it was made. Excellent , excellent job!
I wished I'd seen this before I made my hardtop remover crane. This design is way better than what I came up with.
I can envision a handful of variations on this and I’m sure you can also but the basic geometry design is terrific. Nice job!
That's the best lift I have seen. I'm building one just like it using your video as a guide. Only difference is, I'm adding an electric winch and might paint it black. I hope it's not copyrighted. It's still worth it. Thanks for the video
GREAT Idea, one suggestion is buy a engine hoist or the Harbor Freight Lift # 1647 or one from Summitt Racing SUM-917036, one person said they didn't want to drill holes in the bed to mount such, WELL all you need to do as this fellow, make the tubing FROM the/a rear receiver to a outside corner of the bed with mounting plate welded to it. You can even use same type tubing with drilled holes in it that would slide/adjust down under the plate to the ground for support.
The sizzor iacknis a new twist! Thanks for sharing.
Awesome idea. Gave me a few of my own. I love the offset, but it needs to be able to be used from either side. Easy fix. Plus a 12 volt winch and an adapter on the jack for a power drill would make it much easier to use. I definitely like the concept. More like this please
Winch would have topped it off perfect.
well done mate, thats a fantastic job, nice, clean and simple but highly effective. loving it.
Two line of pull and a support underneath. Very nice.
good idea. Except one thing, it only goes to the left from what i see. It you would have used some square stock on the end to form T then you could use it on either side. Not too sure about that latch holding the top of the mast, And your winch is turned backwards. Im a mechanical engineer and design things all the time, A couple of adjustments and it will be top notch. Good job.
Rus could you give me those ideas an sizes? I want to make one for me but in aluminium, so I can use it in my boat too. Thank you very much
you made me rethink the tommy lift i was going to buy sweet options
Incredible. I was going to suggest you put a brace. But I saw how you designed and welded the joint. Pretty ingenious!
Innovative! Yes there are several suggestions in the comments below that would improve your crane, but the basic idea is fantastic. Looks like quite a workout to load that snowblower :-}
Nice job, Works well.
In my sixties, I would have to go to Harbor Freight and buy the 12 V. winch, Badland 2000 lb.
They sell the crane too
I want to weld up a crane with my everlast. That jack on the bottom is a great idea and takes some of the weight off the hitch and back suspension.
Made one from your idea, works great. the only thing i did different was put electric wench and a electric trailer jack for the support leg.
Very nice. Your use of the scissor jack gave me a great idea for my car hauler trailer. Thank you!
Great job. The screw jack on the bottom is clever. very interesting video.
Cheers from down under.
Rob
Hey Rob, you better make one for all those roadside pickups around Adelaide.
Excellent idea sir. Two thumbs way up !!!! One suggestion , the end you slide in your receiver if it was double ended you could use it on either side of your pick up. 👍👍
Good job, can i give you a tip, stand on the tray to winch it would be much easier than reaching up to do the winding. That is if it isn't part of your daily work out routine
A tommy lift tailgate is really an option that once you've had one, why did I wait so long!
A lotta fun to build I'm sure, welll done.
Nice design. The only thing I don't like is the winch at eyes level. Reaching up to crank looks like a chore but the second thing is if that cable snaps and your face is only inches from it........well use your imagination. Don't worry about the flamers who rip your welding. That skill comes with time. keep building..nice.
Mounting the crank on the other side to make cranking it,up easier , thanks for the great ideas, invention minded diy'er
Looked like you need a stop, so when you jam it in the receiver the pin hole is auto lined up. I recently did something similar, for a snowbike that weighs 270 pounds. Having a flat bed and some 3" sq tube, I made in effect a vertical receiver that plugs into the regular receiver, the 3" bears on/plugs into that, and then at the edge of the bed I welded in a captured 1/2" nut, for a bolt that goes thru the 3". A scrap piece of pipe that happened to fit inside the 3" square tube with little slop is my cross arm, with the hand winch welded onto it. Not as sanitary looking as your set but equally effective! I need to do a video on it....
Nice work. Add quick connect nub so older users or the lazy can use their handheld impact drivers.
Briliant idea. Thanks for Sharing. Cheap and Super Heavy Duty Crane. thanks 100x
Scissor jack is a nice touch - yep, 12volt winch is the way to go. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Patrick
Good design! I'd use a cordless screw gun with socket for both jack & winch cranking.
Great job on the design and fabrication👍👍
Nice winch setup/build, great skills and idea's, you have inspired me! Thanks
It needs one of the scissor jacks that has a 3/4 size nut on it, so you can run it up and down with a battery impact.
I'm going to make my own with my everlast welder too. I really like your design.
I did something similar. I used the harbor freight truck bed crane and mounted it to a plate that slides in the receiver hitch. I welded a trailer tongue jack to the base to help support the load. basically the same thing you have, it's just not offset, and I used a trailer tongue jack instead of a scissor jack. I wish I could post a picture of it.
that snatch block seems unnecessary. that setup should already handle that snow bower, I think the snatch block would just make it take twice as long to crank.
Great idea, and a cool barn shop too Buddy!
Excellent, the only thing I would do different is a 12 volt ATV winch instead of the hand crank.
Great job though dude... I love that head light on the blower too :)
This is just beautiful engineering Congrats.
I been thinking for a long time on doing something like that to lift my motorcycle in to the bed.
cool build, the way it is built you could easily add an electric winch if you were so inclined.I will build one similar to yours, but mine will be for a duece and a half. The bed is 4 feet off the ground a lift like that would be nice.
Excellent idea! I agree with the guy below my post though. The 12 volt winch idea is even better. 👍
this is one nifty slick idea, , Thanks For Sharing this,
Great idea for someone with a bad back, or for preventing one.
BOOM first thing I see is scissors jack...wise and smart..this is AWESOME! (some call em screw jacks) anyway totally cool
Very slick. I made one similar to yours, but yours is the better design. I love the butt hinge and pipe halves idea. I use mine to install and remove my 5th wheel hitch. I'm going to use your ideas in the re-fab of mine. Thanks SO much for posting.
Sweet piece of DIY kit -- thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Patrick
That is an awesome build. Thanks for sharing it with the world to inspire some of us to build our own and giving others a platform to share their well developed skills of belittlement and "shoulda, coulda, woulda" with you. Or, what I call Assholes. Cheers from Canada's left coast.
Good job bro.
30 years in the welding trade. Keep it up awsome
put a 12 volt winch on hat thing and you could actually be somebody!!! j/k works good man nice job!! ;)
The main reason I’m looking into this set up is because I have a “bad back” kind of defeats the purpose with this set up though, I wish it is permanently attached to the truck bed... good for certain application...👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Super clever set up and very practical. Two thumbs up.
Its a good idea and the steader jack is good just need different size blocks a thicker one would meant much less winding up and down but A1++ all round
After I put in a comment I read many of other comments. FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS. They will take you through life with a smile on your face.
I was gonna suggest the electric 12v winch also. Like my crane has. I love it.
This post is almost 8 years old, so I don't know if you are monitoring comments any longer but I'll leave one anyway.
This is a great piece of equipment ! I have looked at a half dozen or so videos for a truck crane and this one if far and away the best one I have watched Ignore all the petty weld looking comments, they are left by insignificant morons incapable of intelligent thought and most probably don't know which end of the rod holder to weld with. They just need to say something/anything even if it is stupid. The winch type or it's position comments, however do have some merit though. A Material and/or a cut List would a tremendous addition and help to anyone that wishes to construct this crane.
Thanks for this post !
That's pretty good but I wonder if it's sketchy to use like when it's turned 90 degrees I'd think some legs or at least 1 would be preferable although it didn't appear to move much picking up that blower those aren't very light I mean what else would you really want it for. That's exactly why I searched this video I want to put my blower in my truck to. I'll be using a remote winch tho.
awesome build buddy!! just a sugestion, maybe get one of those atv winches from crappy tire and wire a plug that works of the power from your 7 or 4 way adapter!! then all u would have to do is press the button!!
Hum... this is how to load/unload fifth wheel; color me impressed. ty for sharing.
Great job guys, like it alot. but you need to turn the winch around, would make turning the handle easier to reach and you would be winching the right way.
GREAT IDEA! I wonder if you could use a electric or batter powered drill instead of the hand crank? Thanks for sharing this awesome invention!!
GREAT VID and idea. suggestions; com-along instead of crank wench, or electric wench as my truck has outlet for 12v right on that corner, even mounting wench lower would facilitate cranking. still a great idea, keep them coming
That is a very simple crane looks good to me.
Crank is a bit high for comfortable use but I really like the idea. I think I will use my powerarc and weld up something like this.
great idea!!! I'm going too build something like it for my flat trailer for scrapping. who cares ifin his welds don't look the best .... as long as they hold!!!
buy your self a 80 dollar 12volt winch and save all that cranking.I did and it works great
That is a super idea,, would be loading big hunks of fire wood
What a great idea I need that for my truck
I like the jack for ground support, look good but Ii would add a 12 v wench. Good job.
Put a better drop leg to replace the scissor jack ,lower the winch and turn it 180* and you would really have something
Good work !
That is a back saver right there!
I like your idea I have built a few in my days ago like seeing fresh stuff
I like how you extended the boom and reenforced it
I all so like the many ideas you have displayed in the build of you crane
The shackles are something now a question what kinds of stock did you use square or round at the mast seems like the majority of construction is of square tubing the shackles must have given you trouble to get tight to much play tends to cause it to lean
And become sloppy if I may ask a question what size inner ID did you use as opposed to the outer id of pipe did you use to get it to move smoothly with out the sloppy leaning thing
great job , try winding your winch drum the other way , make it easier on your shoulder
I know the crane has other uses but I just use ramps (boards) and let the snow blower drive itself into the truck. takes less time. good work on the crane though.
I really like what you've done there, good job, I'm going to suggest a few mods to eliminate a few pieces and some weight, if you remove the scissor jack the main upright could slide down and rest on the ground, the horizontal tube going to the receiver can then slide freely up and down with the bed. if you remove and shorten the 2nd upright the round one and place it on top of the one sitting on the ground you can save loads of weight as well, also you'll get a lot more leverage on the winch if you lower it.
For maximum effect...turn your volume to MAXIMUM
hahaha
Great idea! One caveat. Get rid of the scissor jack and put in drop bar with pins. That's your weakest link.
Great design. Well done. Have you considered one of the Harbor Freight-level electric winches as a replacement for the crank winch?
A smart great idea.following the KISS principals.
I have to build one and upload a video. I made Gin poles for the 3500hd and my f250 needs this now
Great stuff.. well done. It would help greatly if you had a similar size nut on your winch and Jack to suit a same size socket on a cordless drill... might save a bit of effort 🤓
Fantastic idea! Yankee ingenuity can’t be beat.
Being an “old” guy, I think I would have to use an electric winch instead of the crank. I would definitely have to use a drop down leg for support. I can’t bend down that far to turn the scissor jack. It’s that “old” thing again. Best regards.
Looks pretty good, I just wonder why you couldn't just put a base on it and make it mobile (shop crane) doesn't really seem like the hitch part is necessary, and somewhat unsteady. Great idea though.
Hi thank you so much for the video detail construction so please if it possible send the picture of label of winch to buy one similar, thanks in advance.
You are great men!greetings from Greece!i like your idea very much!
Great job..
I love it when you have a idea and make it real you own way..
good job lots of work need to build won like that for the farm good idea thks and keep building
awesome simple design, and great finished product. I want to build one here soon. Any chance you can do a walk around and explain dimensions and materials? Great Video!
Very cool but why didn't you use a long ram hydraulic Jack like on an engine hoist? I'm build a similar crane for my trailer and using hydraulic Jack with air assist they are only $89.00 at Northern Tools
Rain, water, exposed to elements, weight ? Safety? Using hydraulic cylinder can lead to moments load comes down TOO fast.
you should get the harbor freight 2500 pound electric winch with the wireless remote its only 79 bucks I'm pretty sure you can take the crank off and mount the Electric winch its compact and very strong
I havent really seen the cable get attached like that, down to a pull at the load then back up to the crane, does that double the lifting? make it twice as slow I'd assume have you compared with and without?
Brother. Great video love it you inspire me thanks
Nice concept. Just rethink your rigging when lifting. None of those points were made to lift the weight of the blower. A couple of stabilizing straps and a main one around the main piece behind the auger for the load would have been much better. That sheet metal can fold and collapse quickly. I have a couple of blowers just like it and I spent a life rigging heavy loads. I like the idea though. Maybe a four point foot to keep the twisting moment down some instead of the single axis load point.
Douglas Thompson Actually it is ok because it loaded and uploaded using those lift points. Theoreticall vs actual. 😁
Nice!!! Now for a spreader bar and electric winch.
good morning. I saw the video and I found this homemade crane wonderful. I would like to do it at home but I would like to ask you if you have a design plan and if you can send me the plans or sell them to me, please. I have a Ford 350 heavy duty truck and I would like to have this tool to adapt it to the vehicle for personal use on my farm.
Do you have plans for this that you don’t mind sharing? Great design
