      Thank you. It's in bloom on even more growths right now. I'd love to know if yours has anthocyanin in the leaves and does it have any fragrance? I've got a semi Alba maxima with no frag and doesn't get the purple flush in bright light.

    Your C.maxima is magnificent! what a beautiful specimen. It is big and tall but very nice blooms! congratulations on your 18-20 blooms.

    Beautiful! I like how you extended the pot to accommodate the new growths, it's a nice idea. Looks amazing.

      They are very easy. I have almost all of the unifoliate Cattleya species and this one seems to be the easiest. It also has great, soft fragrance.

      Sometimes you can find a plant broker- they are people who have licenses to buy plants from other countries and have agreements with overseas growers. Like- there is one here in the USA I know of who will get pre-orders for a nursery in Brazil and he imports a lot of plants two times a year. Maybe you can find someone like that in your country. Also- I don't know what the laws are where you live, but in Europe, I think basically all of those countries can just ship plants to any other country in the EU. SO, if your country has agreements like that with another country, maybe you could find them in a nearby country.

    Two types of maxima - a lowland type (like yours) and an upland type (like mine). The lowland version grows much larger/taller and has a mid-purple blooms. The upland type is a much smaller plant with darker blooms. And yet they still haven't re-classified them as separate plants??? That's a beauty and well looked after and so many blooms - well done!

      now I learned more about a low-land maxima that produces bigger flowers like the one in this video. I really love love this one. such a spectacular species!!! thank you for sharing ^^

      They are dark..not rubra, but they are the regular short type color...video makes them look lighter than they really are. I think it might be a cross between the two types as it is a tall plant..not as tall as the tall forms, but certainly taller than I think the short forms are, but I don't know for sure since I've not seen many maximas in real life, but I have seen photos of super short ones with lots of flowers. Also the pure tall forms have more pseudobulb sheaths/bracts up the length of the pseudobulb which mine lacks. It's also growing up out of the pot which makes it seem taller than I keep thinking it actually is. In any case, it's getting to be quite the little monster. Hopefully if it does have tall genes in it, I'll start getting massive flower heads that the tall ones have.

      I have an upland type, which I got from Ecuagenera in November. Unfortunately it got rot (twice) and had to be divided (twice), and all I have left is a little division with 3 bulbs, which is trying to make new growths, but they have been growing very poorly and the plant has been still rootless since I got it. It's a lost case. I like this plant a lot and I will probably buy a new one. I just hope I can find another upland type, because the lowland is too big for my growing space. It's annoying that the nurseries often don't even mention which type their maximas are.

      The only 'sure way' to tell, is a mature plant in bloom unfortunately - you can then see the size of the plant and the colour of the blooms. They don't come up for sale often or at least, I haven't seen many. Ecuagenera sell a lot of 'failures' as their only way into the EU is bare-rooted and we have no way of telling how long the plants have been that way. I think Ana Maria has also had trouble with plants from them. A few years ago I bought 3 very discounted masdevallias at the Malvern show from them. 1 died very quickly, 1 did well, and 1 is still trying to recover.

      Roger Frampton They have great plants, but the problem is that they have to ship them bare rooted, and it takes them some time to pack all the plants (they pack the roots in sphagnum or shredded paper, and then pack them with plastic). They might be a week like that before flying to Europe. Last November they arrived in Finland days before the show, so meanwhile the plants were still all packed and in the dark boxes, with the roots dying. At the point they arrive at the shows, the roots have all died. Then the second problem is that they are coming from the opposite season. When my plants came in November, it was spring in South America and early winter here in the North. The plants were excepting lots of light and warmth. It's a great shock. Of all the plants I got from them, the only one that is doing well is the encyclia cochleata alba. The others are all still struggling, One died, one almost died, and the others look like shadows of what they were. If I had a terrarium with warmer temperatures and high humidity, it wouldn't be a problem, but I'm not going to buy anymore orchids coming rootless from South America. It takes them more than a year to recover, if they stay alive.

    hi i wanted to as if the cattleya maxima orchid is a tof or difficult grower

    • @indoororchidsandtropicals358
      @indoororchidsandtropicals358  8 років тому +1

      It's been one of the easiest Cattleya species to grow for me. Start with a nbs or bs. I've got some weak growing seedlings of a certain cross, but overall, it's been the toughest, easiest one...I've got 5 of them and the weak growers are sibs, so it may just be them, but overall, I've seen my plants put out many growths at a time and they are capable of rooting off of very immature growths if something happens and you get a lot of root loss. One thing though,,,some individuals are calicium hogs. If you get black tips on new growths, you need to supplement those plants with Ca.

      Dude now that you're in Seattle and super duper close to me, I could send you one of these hard to grow babies. I bet it would do better for you since you could toss it outside in the summer and it would get the temperature drop it needs. My two keep getting cal deficiency because it's too warm for them and some maximas are cooler growing. I think these two I'm having problems with are not the warmth lovers like the other maximas I have.
