I was there. Although not local to Liverpool, I distinctly recall the show starting late, apparently due to a Protestent March. That, of course would be 12th July.
Au contraire. There is such extraordinary authority in this performance that it would be a fool who recorded a "cover" version. The song is created for this truly weird voice, and much of the fascination is in the phenomenon. This may be like watching Monet paint his cathedral for the thousandth time, but it's still watching a genius actually at work being a genius.
Actually, this is far superior to both the album version and the acoustic 1966 performances (though some of these verged on the impossible!). By 2001 he has found exactly the right way to fit the rhythm of the words to the rhythm of the music, and the result is spellbinding in all the 2001 - 2002 concerts.
a joy, apart from hearing the performance, is watching bob's facial expressions in these close up images - never quite sure if he is being sarcastic or earnest in singing his old words
As usual with Dylan live concerts absolutely dreadful. If someone was to simulate this in the local pub he would be booed off the stage. I've been to 2 of Dylan's concerts and at the last one said I wouldn't go back
Then why watch this John? There's lots of other music out there. Why torture yourself? You're welcome to your point of view. But there are others. I think this later work is a gift. Complex, visceral, and evocative. Of course it is unsettling. It's intended to be. You don't like it, very many do. Each to their own. If you want some similarity to an album track, then go see the Stones or some other auto-tribute band. That he makes something new of the song, delights me and you dislike it. Then why on earth watch his stuff?
what a beautiful afternoon for me one sublim version of my fav Bobby song ..... great thank sand i wish you a nice week end John ♥♥♥

There is nobody can bugger up a Bob Dylan song quite as well as Bob Dylan.

Sarcastic actually like he is applauding himself which IS NARCISSISTIC AT ITS WORST
Wow some great close ups of Bob and wonderful rendition too! Thank you so much!🙌 Good weekend to you John Spoor! 🌅
Thank you Nissi, Bob is singing & soloing in his element, wishing you a good weekend too.
