Great effort involved in this. Really appreciate this well explained data. I found it very useful since I just planed to play with Dairy farms. Now I just have to organize all other logistic and production... Great job! Thank you!
Great Info, Thanks heaps for going to the trouble of sharing this. It’s one thing to say you can make money from cheese, it another level to show the data, thanks again, you are my go to for FS22 tutorials.
Thanks for the video, the breeding aspect adds a further complication to the analysis, but limit your numbers based on your pen size, and you'll make extra profit by selling the "extra cows"
Very good job collecting data and testing everything out, appreciate all the effort put into this. One thing I am genuinely curious about though is what are the other statistics for the 37-48 month cows, because that is something I would have loved to see included. See if they consume more and production falls like value or if value only falls but production and consumption still increase, because then I would definitely see it as fit to take the loss of $250 per cow for the extra year income from production of milk and the valuable assets of slurry and manure.
@@Scroft That is good to know. So if you just want milk you can just keep the same cows forever. I wonder if it matters what feed you use for earlier growth phases. For instance, could you cheap out by feeding grass up to 12mo or even nothing and then start feeding TMR when they are mature.
unless you do it as your source of income, purchasing a trailer for 16k is more expensige than a 300 or so dollar fee even a few times over again... you would have to pay the fee many times over.. even leasing a trailer is a way better option if you go by a 300 dollar fee youd have to make that purchasw 50 or so times litteraly to pay more then the cost of a trailer. but in reality the trailers hold like no cows hardly at all 5 or 6 so theres also that unless you mod it.

what about what you use that open cow pasture for? you said you was going to go over it but never went back and explained. I'm assuming you use it for cattle rotation (I could be wrong) but curious how you go about it.
Thanks for an excellent analysis! I was curious about the cost differential between the TMR and the Hay Only options for feed, and I saw that someone answered this indicating that because silage is cheaper to produce than hay, that the TMR would likely be a cheaper food option as well. I have subscribed and look forward to checking out more of your videos.
I thought about getting into dairy farming, but after seeing that the explanation is over half an hour long already i decided to stay at wheat&honey business and maybe will try potatoes or so.
Awesome info Scroft ...thanks! I doubt even Giants did such in-depth testing! ...in fact we know they didn't or they would have found the Grass bug 😂. Thanks again and well done!
The quickest TMR mix recipe! You really don't need straws it's just a filler, and the additive is just such a small amount it's unnecessary.... remember to check your bale sizes. RECIPE: SILAGE ROUND BALE 2 each. 150kg (5500L) HAY ROUND BALE 1 each. 180kg (9000L) =20,000L TMR
#tip: collect data from a "28 days per month" game. prices of milk goes up n' down every month. I've collected data of few months "28 days per month" and the result was shocking. i.e. in January I got a highest of 1750 observing for only 5 days, this only shows how much the price can vary. By 1 day per month what you're all getting is a random price of that month (ig) for that product and so the price-chart (or something) is making no sense. Saying this only cause the price could vary by a big margin also the profit .
Another great video well done, you mentioned the open paddock was a mod but I’m pretty sure that is standard in the base game the only difference between the others is you have to manually give them water, Cheers
Thanks. Yeah, I have the mod version that makes the cows look free with no fences. You can add you own fences and I was referring to that. Thinking about it, I may not have been activated 🤔
Just a quick question, do you maybe know if the mineral feed does anything extra? Like a bit more milk production or is it for now purely "decorative"?
Thing with a grass is not a bug. You need effectiveness high enough for breeding and for milk. Grass is only 40%. But will it stack like for every other animal ? Like can it go over 100% ? Would be 220% for productivity if you give them everything they need. E: Doesnt go over 100%, but bedding straw is needed for max milk income and for manure. Even though grass+hay is 120%, TMR is still better (more milk, slurry and manure).
I'm curious on what the cost to produce the TMR vs Hay for the 36 months is and how that effects the profit per cow or 50 cow. Is it possible that with the increased production components for TMR it is close to being better to just feed hay?
With cost you mean the TMR mixer? If you plan on using bales I found no reason to prefer hay over TMR, considering that grass silage overall is less hassle than hay and therefore cheaper which means I use the higher priced but cheaper to make silage to cut my hay while getting another 20% efficiency
hi buddy how do you play the maps alpine plus you must put them in the folder different ???? and farmer is snifinging around hees teem is doing videos again lol lol
I think a viable strategy would be 2 or 3 barns. One with 40 breeding cattle eating TMR and the other barns with just hay growing the cattle out to 24 months for maximum sell price to simulate the steer barns that many dairy farmers have to get rid of the bull calves. The reason why I suggest hay only on the grow out barns is you can start out with the cheap barn without the robot but as taking care of the dairy cattle gets tiresome you can then buy the robot one to move your breeding stock into and just fill troughs and stop having to mix feed.
Scroft love the vids and the how to guides especially the tutorials they are easy and great explanation thx scroft 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂 and I learnt about things I didn’t know about this 🤯
I assume the TMR consumed of 1695 is per month. How much does the bunk hold at once? So if you fill it right up how many game days will feed the cows until empty?
all the numbers are for 1 cow over 12 months. so 1695 is the amount 1 cow will consume of TMR in the first 12 months. the barn holds about 30000ltrs if I remember but it depends on the size
It is a mod called heavy lifting I think. But if you get the mod power tools it can be activated with that also. It can be enabled with the giants console commands but you need to go into the game.xml file to first enable the option to use commands in game 👍

Am I doing something wrong when my dairy cows don't produce milk at all? I use hay and they are 25 months old now and not a single drop of milk. PLEASE HELP!!!
What is the health of the cows? if it 0% they won't produce milk. I know there are a few problems with the animals and hopefully Giants will fix it soon. Try feeding TMR to get the health up to 100% and they will be producing milk soon after
So, do you think beef or milk is the better way to go ? (most profit) And it seems like there is no difference between the 2 breeds on how much milk they make? I thought it was proved that Holstein produced more milk ?
I'm just doing the tests now on beef cattle which will answer what makes more money, milk or meat. Stay tuned for that. Yeah I was disappointed that both milk breeds give off the same numbers but unfortunately they do
great work! but wouldn't it be better to sell all the cows at age 36 an buy instant new one with a age of 12 months? you would have instant milk production, no need of a second pen and all 2 years a nice income of ~ 10.000 (minus some fees for selling and buying the cows)
profits much bigger on selling cows pay 300 take care of it for a while buy a bunch, sell for around 3k or more each cow not sure if aboe to sell for more but i have seen 3k.
Mon., Dec. 6, 2021 Hello Mr. Scroft, hope all is well. You mention a "Place anywhere" mod in this video and I was wondering if you'd be kind enough to share where you found that? Thank you sir, for your time. Have a great week.
I was wondering how breeding works in this game. If you fill up a barn with cows and they become viable to breed, do they still do so if their barn is full. In other words will the game prohibit them from breeding if there isn't adequate space? If so, would you say it's smarter never to completely fill up barns?
Your spot on, it's all about rotation. Have open pastures where you can put cows to fattern up on hay and then sell them at the best time for you. Have one main barn for breeding 👍
@@Scroft So your main breeding barn has how many cows in it? Cause they won't breed when it's full. That's the part that confuses me about your plan in the video. Do you temporarily move the 50 original cows out from the breeding barn into the pasture so they make 50 more, then sell them? I can't quite figure out how it works... To get the numbers from your video, you would need two breeding barns with 25 cows each, so then you could move the new ones out?
