Federation University REVIEW [An Unbiased Review by Choosing Your Uni]

- Federation University is one of those Australian universities that will strongly appeal to a core group of students.
No, it's not a huge, high-ranking institution the University of Melbourne... but it's not trying to be either.
Like many of Australia's regional universities, Fed U KNOWS the community that it serves and has been steadily working on delivering on its "promise" for many years.
In this unbiased review by A Life That Travels, Rob Malicki takes a walk around Federation University's beautiful Mt Helen campus just outside Ballarat.
This is a lovely corner of Australia, with clean air, big open skies and a university that continues to push itself further.
Whilst some students might not have even heard of Fed U, there are good reasons to consider it:
-- The uni punches above its weight, rating above the national average on many of the Quality Indicators of Learning and Teaching index (from the Australian Government).
-- Fed U is a "dual sector" institution, meaning you can start off studying a vocational qualification and work your way all the way "up" to a degree and more.
-- Ballarat has a significantly lower cost of living than Melbourne, with good transport links if you DO want to head into town for a weekend.
Let's take a walk around the campus and please let us know what you think in the comments below!

About to start second year at Fed Uni, first at Ballarat though. This mans energy made me super excited to arrive!
Glad to hear it Issa! I really love the campus - it’s intimate and relaxed. A great Australian experience :)
How’s the berwick one for you?
Haven’t been there yet!
Looking forward to it, if you’re ever going to.
I’ll get there eventually!
thank you for your great content🥰.
can you tell me exactly the ranking of FED uni. according to your view and research?
and what about availability of part time job as well as full time job in ballarat area?
Rankings are publicly available so just Google them. At the moment there’s plenty of casual and part time work all over Australia, especially if you’re flexible about what you want to do.
@@ChoosingYourUni i get it. thank you for your information 😇😇😇
🤘
The roots lie in the original Ballarat School of Mines.
You may not think it had very prestigious roots, but graduates from this school formed during the mining days, made their mark globally.
That doesn’t surprise me. Lots of the regional unis came out of technical institutions that served specialised and valuable functions for their regions.
@@ChoosingYourUni Is mining engineering main major of FedUni?
Is there any active mines near by the Uni?
Do vacation internship in Perth mines while studying in Ballarat would be aguos
Fantastic review mate, you're a bloody legend!
Thanks Adam - hope you found it valuable!
Hey rob, I'm from india nd just took admission for masters in fed Uni. Your video stands quite helpful. Looking forward to meet u in aus as soon as borders would open. Thanks mate
That would be rad mate. Fingers crossed the borders open soon! Will you be studying at the main campus?
I'll be studying in the Ballarat campus. Is it the main?
Yes. I really like that campus - it’s a beautiful bush campus. Not huge, easy to get to know.
@@vaibhavchauhan2308 how is campus
Lots of space. Chilled vibe 👍
Thank you for your great effort to make the video. I like to give two friendly comments:
A) If you had tuned the volume of the background music down a bit ... It is often overwhelming your voice, particularly because you also speak by almost whispering at times ;)
B) I like your positive personality - yet I am not sure how accurate you are on the qualities of the university. It sounds like a promotional video, not as a neutral review of the university.
But my biggest takeaway is your footage. As I am contemplating applying to the Federation (Ph.D.), I love to see the surroundings on the campus.
Cheers!
Thanks mate. Great feedback.
I like to focus on positives because I believe you should pick a uni based on the positives that best align with you rather than negatives that aren’t relevant to you.
Good luck for you PhD
Have you applied for the PhD program? I have applied there, but I am confused regarding the university.
@@TheSphereBox I have not.
What are you confused about?
@@MrOceanson Regarding ranking and all. It isn't ranked in QS world ranking list.
@@TheSphereBox that is one part I have been looking at as well. FU seem to be rather low ranking on most lists I've seen
Hi. Great vid. Did you cover FedUni Berwick too? Thanks
No, haven’t done that yet. Haven’t been to that campus yet.
hey bro, i got an offer letter from fed uni for bsc. nursing . what do u think. will it be good. i have few doubts.
are there good faucaulty hospitals to work in.
will we get part time job
if i live on campus, will i require my own vehicle to go to my part time work place or will it be easy to catch public transport.
Not 100% sure about the locations in play here. Depends on which campus you’re at. I think you also asked about Griffith? See my comment on that video.
@@ChoosingYourUni i got offer from both and i am confused.
Hey, did you accept the offer from federation
I'm in the same situation
@choosing Your Uni Appling for 2023 intake.
👍
Can we play football at Federation University? I love to play football and I got admission in there.
As in soccer?
I couldn’t find anything about a university team but there IS a local soccer competition in Ballarat. You can find info here: ballaratsoccer.com.au
If you’re from overseas, this would be a great way to meet locals.
@@ChoosingYourUni Thanks Bro❤️
Need an unbiased review for EIT, Australia also.
Sorry, what's EIT?
What about the partime jobs for international students in ballarat?
At time of writing this comment, there is plenty of casual and part-time work all over Australia for uni students.
hey rob, please guide is it good to study there in ballarat for engineering management program & how are the part time and full time job opportunities there once i become graduate??
Not sure about engineering jobs in Ballarat itself, but if you're happy to work in a regional area somewhere else in Australia there is tonnes of work outside of our major cities.
Thanks for your video! It would be helpful if you could mention the part-time job availability around the Ballarat area.
Ballarat is a small regional town. In recent times there have been shortages for staff in hospitality roles and agriculture, but there are fewer "professional" opportunities than big cities. The trade off is that the cost of living is WAY cheaper than in the big cities.
@@ChoosingYourUni Thank you for the information!!☺☺
Glad to help!
@@kali6908 bahi kaise ho.. federation University ka plan kar raha hu bhai, aap bhi udhar se hai kya?
@@ayataswindoo I'm Sorry man. I don't know your language.🙄
Hey mate what's your view on mba (healthcare management) Brisbane campus?
Just visited there at the end of last year. Video out really soon.
Small campus in the building in the heart of downtown. Great, new facilities and good linkages between the uni and some organisations in Brisbane. It’s a small uni community but maybe that’s not a bad thing at MBA level?
Amazing University thanks for the video
You’re welcome!
There is any other rich city connected ballarat around 45 minutes distance?
No. Melbourne is the closest major city.
Please make a video about Federation university Sydney (atmc)..
Won’t get to that anytime soon, I’m afraid. Sorry.
Sir please does the federation university offer law courses?
Check their website for all the current offerings.
Again I enjoyed your talk....it is also.in my list......I love you talk....I'll meet u soon in Australia....I have subcribed u...now u r my favourite...plz tell how can I be an active person.
Thanks mate - you’re very kind 👍
If you can share my videos with people you know that really helps me.
Look forward to chatting with you in the comments of future videos!
@@ChoosingYourUni I asked u mate ...that I want to be active doing any task...always face problems to manage time during study????
Uni seems empty. Seems emptier than a lot of unis in 2020 with covid around
That’s just the time of day and day of the week that I was there. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to visit every uni at the “optimal” time of busy-ness yet.
Hey does this university in Melbourne
There’s a small space in Melbourne.
University in cheap no doubt but without part time job i cannot refer this university,,
Fair enough
Are you studying there?
