Bob Seger wrote and performed some of the greatest songs of the 70's - 80s. Such a fantastic performer, his concerts were incredible. You've hit a couple of his best, but there are so many more, the biggest probably being Night Moves, which would be a good place to go next. Follow that with Roll Me Away, Main Street, Hollywood Nights, Against The Wind, and so many more.
@@Lonewolfmike This album knocked on the door. The release of Night Moves later that same year kicked it in. Two utterly fantastic albums back to back.
Mr. Seger was a good man. He worked hard, kept an eye on his people. I met him, several times. He would not remember me. I always volunteered for shifts at concert nights. The day started around 2pm, and ran until 5 am the next morning. Maybe me and another bartender. Usually a cook. The club was a dark cavern, we held over 2,000. The roadies were a happy, hard working bunch. A real science to set the stage. Barbacks almost like roaches. Everywhere, stocking 15 or 20 bars. Sound checks were a misery. When the DJ came in, more sound checks. House lights come up, and you know it’s fixing to get real. House lights go down, and the doors are open. Mr. Seger never left his people. He did not interfere. Just there, if they needed him. Kind, soft spoken, generous. A fine man.
Bob is one of the greatest story tellers in music history. We love him here in Michigan and the Detroit area. He makes you feel like he is singing directly to you. Listen to the entire Live Bullet album recorded here in Detroit and you will feel like you are sitting in the arena for the entire concert.
Yeah, agreed, and Night Moves, too... hadn't heard these tracks in decades, and then hearing them with those extra years piled on my soul, I'm like: ok, now I GET it....
I really enjoyed this reaction by you Rosali ! Bob Seger "Live Bullet" album was a huge part of the party life in the 70's into 80"s, He has some great songs after this album to check out such as Down On Mainstreet, Still the Same, Against the Wind.
I've been front row at his concert back in late 70's or so. One of the most poignant memories was the spotlight that went onto the sax player (I can still see him) when this song began. I will never forget it. Also, he had two buses that I saw outside the arena: one had a woman's name in the marquee; the other one's marquee had "No One You Know."
I worked with a guy J Sisky from Ann Arbor Michigan. His father was a Michigan Senator and his Mom was a music teacher. I met the Senator and Mrs. Sisky and he had a most impressive library of first editions and framed pictures of him with presidents, but the most, or I will say this the most, extraordinary thing to me was the people she taught in her Music Class in Ann Arbor she said that she kicked "Little Bobby Seager" out of her class because he refused to learn her curriculum and that he would never succeed playing the kind of music he wanted. Shows what you can accomplish by sticking to YOUR OWN VISION, there is a lesson for all of us in this. GOD BLESS.
You gotta do Night Moves Rosalie. Its kinda tongue and cheek until the end and you realise how much it reflects life in general. The 70's and 80's were his hayday. He is hands down a Legend.
I used to call this my favorite song. I have many favorites now but this one…phenomenal. Still get shivers listening. ❤ And as always, you’re insights are fabulous.
I have been a Bob Seger fan since the 70s. His voice and storytelling is incredible. The sax makes my heart soar. This song became so real after I married my drummer husband. People really don't understand how much goes into a gig. For them it's just 4 hours of music. They don't think about how much driving there is, hauling the gear, setting it up, tearing it down, trying to get a moment to eat something, or how much it cost to do all of this. When you talk to a venue owner trying to get them to pay you what you need to make a small profit; some venue owners will say, you want that much for 4 hours? They don't realize it's a 12 to 14-hour day for the rest of us. For a band that lives and breathes music, it's worth it.
Excellent reaction and spot on...same issue for teachers, firemen, policeman and other folks who work for others...work hard, sometimes disrespected, but still put it out there for the students, victims, etc. who appreciate the effort and fact that someone puts it out there to help someone other than themselves. RESPECT. Shout out to musicians and teachers and other service industry folks who give more than they get. Heroes all.
He wrote the song before he became a huge star. Hence the lyric 'Here I am playing the star again'. He always gave his all when he performed (I was fortunate enough to see him several times, the first was in '69 or '70 with his early band The Bob Seger System). But it took a long while for all his hard work to pay off.
same, grew up in a Detroit suburb. Bob was on regular rotation along with zeppelin. Watching her listening to Bob, I didn't even notice I was singing along, you gotta.
Bob is a legendary story teller! He's in the Rock-n-Roll HOF as well as the Rock-n-Roll Writers HOF! Every song he writes and sings is amazing...EVERY ONE OF THEM! I grew up with Bob and loved every minute of it!! Still have his records! "Old Time Rock-n-Roll" and "Her Strut" are just a couple...Sooooo many more! Bob has a really deep rabbit hole to jump into...but boy will you enjoy it!!
As a former over-the-road truck driver of 20 years, I can understand that this song is a biography of life on the road. Making the trip from here to there, listening to the whine of the engine of the bus (or truck) that's moving you to your next destination. Then he mixes the part of the actual performance which that trip brought him to. My sister doesn't like this song because she thinks he's complaining instead of being thankful for his life. Obviously she has no concept of understanding (and if you knew her like I do, you'd know what that really means!) what life is about. Anyway, he nailed what life on the road is like and I thank him for that!
Such a beautiful and powerful song by this Kegend!!! Bob Seger is an Icon and his discography is a necessity to listen to at keast once!! I adored your wonderful reaction Rosalie!! I also highly recommend his other songs, "Mainstreet" and "We Got Tonight", two beauties and emotional songs. Sending much love for you always! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks, Rosalie I'm glad you heard the live version.. and also saw compilation video.... I remember Bob Seger's songs from when I was a teenager... one of my favorites has been "night moves"... I appreciate your reaction and hope you do more!
Bob Seger is from Michigan around Ann Arbor and Detroit. Seen him many times playing up by Flint Mi when I was growing up,before he gained National attention and his first album. Seen him many times after he got famous. Has been the soundtrack of my life. He is a National Treasure. One of the greatest singer songwriters ever. He has a lot of high energy songs also!
Love Bob Seger! I grew up with my parents listening to Classic/Folk rock! Would love for to check out John Denver! He literally has the voice of an angel!
Grew up with this guys’ music.. 60s-70s-80s.. finally got to see him live in early 2000s, and even as a slightly ‘older gent’ - he didn’t disappoint! Thanks for posting this.. great memories!!
Also..... THE FAMOUS FINAL SCENE...... by Bob Seger..... you'll love digging into all the various meanings/metaphors, and it is an OVERLOOKED MASTERPIECE!!!
I have been a fan of Bob Seger since like 1976. I met him in the early 80's at a Holiday Inn bar in Alpena, Michigan. You need to check out "Against the Wind". I have always thought of this as the part 2 of this song. This one talks about how life is on the road. Against the wind is from the viewpoint of an aging performer comparing life then to life now. Fantastic song.
He liked Northern Michigan and why not. Me and a good buddy met him while on vacation at a bar in Chebogan in that time frame, I think 1983. We may have been the only folks that that knew who he was.
I am an old sax player from Michigan. I played in bands in the 90's and got the chance to play with my twin brother's band, which had a guy who toured with Seger in his early days. The guy was a bass player, and he and my brother who played the drums shared vocal duties. I was lucky enough to play with some of the best musicians in America, including a violin or fiddle player who was a session player in Nashville for a bunch of well known people. I feel truly blessed to have had the chance to play with such great people. And to a man, they were all super humble and encouraging to me.
But from before he was a star. He was big regionally in the Midwest, I heard him when I was @ college in Pittsburgh in '71-75 on FM radio. But never heard Bob Seger in Connecticut until his "Live Bullet" album and the song most played was"Turn the Page". Great LP and Bob made tons of great music thru the 70s + 80s. I'd recommend "Roll Me Away", "Even Now" + "Feel Like a Number" for rockin' Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band.
Rosalie, I like your views. I've been watching your channel for a long time not but just now decided to subscribe. Bob Seger is my all time favorite musician which often surprises people when I tell them. This shows me how under-rated he is. He has SO many really great songs! Here are just some of his great songs: Against the Wind - Feel Like A Number - Fire Lake - The Long Twin Silver Line - Sunspot Baby - Rock and Roll Never Forgets - Ship of Fools - Main Street - Still the Same - Till It Shines - We've Got Tonight - The Famous Final Scene ••• and many more! P.S. Like A Rock is far from his best. It's just "okay", but was written commercially for the U.S. auto industry. I look forward to seeing you fall in love with his stuff.
The two times I saw Seger in concert he got at least a 5 minute standing ovation for this song---and one time the whole arena sang along word for word! I agree with @CB_OldDude---you should check out "Roll Me Away" next. And if you want a deep cut few will suggest, check out his cover of Tina Turner's "Nutbush City Limits" (preferably the Live version from Detroit 1975). That Seger sold out arenas up until he retired at the end of a 40+ year career should tell you his catalogue is deep and he is a legend.
The absolute soul that he pours out is epic, just packs a punch. You can feel his experiences through the lyrical poetry My Favorite song from Bob Seger.
Bob Seger is one of the great music storytellers. Coming Home is a great, sad story that honors all those young girls who traveled to Hollywood and L.A. to achieve their dream of being a famous singer or actress, only after 10 years they crashed and burned and the only place they can go is home.
I appreciate how you expanded Bob’s message to apply to the effort required for any truly artistic endeavor. 💛 My vote for your next reaction would be his classic “Night Moves.”
You are absolutely right. Most people think it's amazing 100% of the time. When you headline shows it's even tougher yet. Gotta be there and set up for sound check at noon then don't play till 10 or 11p.m. No partying, if you want to put on a killer show. Once we got our tour bus it was a lot easier or more comfortable cause we could rest.
Please add "Night Moves" to your Must Listen list - it's my top 3 songs of all times, gets me teared up every time and really shows off his penetrating voice.
When i lived on my harley for 10 yrs the long cool nights after riding going into places to warm the inner body with some of lyrics i felt what he was saying beautiful song and gets the soul
Bob Seger is a legend here in Detroit. We have a great amphitheater called Pine knob and they renamed the road leading to it Bob Seger Blvd. his daughter went to the same high school my daughter did at the same time. He would often be in the stands at the football games just like everyone else. I respected that.
Love Bob. 6 decades worth of greatness. My favorite song of his , is night moves but identified as a beatiful loser, so have an affinity for that song.
Hey! Bob Seger has a song named after you called “Rosalie.” It’s about a woman who worked for CKLW, one of the most powerful radio stations in the late 60’s and early 70’s. She was a VERY powerful person. Thin Lizzy also covered it. You should really listen to it even if you don’t react to it. It’s real history.
The first time I saw him perform was at a club in Detroit, about a year before the live album came out. The last time was on his final tour. Alas...we get old .
My family has seen Bob Seger 5 times over almost 40 years. My Father, my mentor, introduced me to Seger. He is gone now but it is amazing. I watch someone new experience this song. Tears fill me eyes. Memories flow through my mind. A sadness that my Father is gone is replaced by the flowing memories of what we shared. A glee begins to emerge, and a satisfaction lingers and dances with my soul. All of this happens every time I watch someone new experience this song. I am truly blessed.
Bob Seeger was "Everymans" singer! He wrote gorgeous ballads and rock about everyday life. I have actually worn out CD's of his. My favorites are this "On the Road" and Night Moves which do just that, speak of things we all experience. A great many touring bands make song about the touring life, Simon and Garfunkel did Homeward Bound, Bob did this masterpiece and even The Warning has Hell you Call a Dream , favorites of mine.
Bob Seger wrote and performed some of the greatest songs of the 70's - 80s. Such a fantastic performer, his concerts were incredible. You've hit a couple of his best, but there are so many more, the biggest probably being Night Moves, which would be a good place to go next. I agree with all your recommendations except "Night Moves"
Could not have said it any better. But include Night Moves.😊
Don't forget roll me away
The man could put on a great show, such a great talented performer
His whole greatest hits album was literal. Every single song was a masterpiece and a hit.
You can never go wrong with Bob Seger.
He is a humble man who never considered himself a "star."
Remember the audio of this video was a live performance. Perfect.
This is from the live double album Live Bullet. This is what put him on the map.
@@Lonewolfmike This album knocked on the door. The release of Night Moves later that same year kicked it in. Two utterly fantastic albums back to back.
Bob Seger feels every word he sings, and you will too. Check out "Night Moves" next it's one of the most Nostalgic songs of all time.
I've seen him 3-4 times throughout his career, and he gives 110% EVERY TIME, easily in my top 5 of all time!
As his career was peeking, he took a decade sabatical from it so he could spend the time with his wife and 2 kids. A real class act.
More Bob!!! "Roll me Away" is my personal favorite, but numerous choices!!
I love this song SO much. The imagery is so clear and evocative. I HIGHLY recommend "Against the Wind" as well for the same reasons.
You said legends covering this song. Bob Seger is a legend
@@tjellis1479no!! Legend for all time!! That's why you younguns will never get it!!
I'm from Detroit. Bob Seger and Ted Nugent were our hometown rockers before Eminem was even born.

It’s a crying shame people don’t know bob Amazing artist
I love your reactions. Rosalie! Keep doing what you're doing.
Riding my motorcycle down the road cruising listening to this song in N MICH during fall colors with my lady.
Mr. Seger was a good man. He worked hard, kept an eye on his people. I met him, several times. He would not remember me. I always volunteered for shifts at concert nights. His music gave me chills when I was so much younger hearing it for the first time. Just did it again. Thank you!
Great reaction. Thank you for letting that song play to deserve his performance and the delivery of his lyrics.
Love Bob. 6 decades worth of greatness. My favorite song of his , is night moves but identified as a beatiful loser, so have an affinity for that song.
1 OF MY FAVORITE SONG OF MINE
CKLW amazing music station of the 60,s and 70's. From Windsor Canada but right across the river from Motown. So many memories
The first time I saw him perform was at a club in Detroit, about a year before the live album came out. The last time was on his final tour. Alas...we get old .
Bob Seger is your favorite rock singers favorite rock singer.
Love this song.
I saw Seger in 1980 in Tulsa, Okla. Best show ever. He came out for 5 encores before leaving, it was awesome.
"Main Street" was my most relatable song....every town has a Main Street, & every Main Street fits the description
Well written, well song.
