I was in the Royal Navy and injured in an explosion onboard HMS Indomitable in February 1953. I spent most of the next four months in Bighi Hospital. What I remember most about Malta was the kindness and friendliness of the Maltese people.

I'm a local Maltese.. and the video you uploaded is one of the best explained. You should said that Saint Paul shipwrecked on the island of Malta and was bitten by a venomous snake, the locals though he gonna die but nothing happened. He preached about Jesus Christ for months.. a eventually the locals became Christians.. 😊

Here we go: The book of Acts 27:27 through 28:11 tells the story of Paul’s shipwreck and three-month winter stay in Malta. As a prisoner, he was transported to Rome, where he would be brought before Caesar for trial. "28:1 Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta. 2 The islanders showed us unusual kindness. They built a fire and welcomed us all because it was raining and cold. 3 Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. 4 When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live.” 5 But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects. 6 The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead; but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.7 There was an estate nearby that belonged to Publius, the chief official of the island. He welcomed us to his home and showed us generous hospitality for three days. 8 His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and healed him. 9 When this had happened, the rest of the sick on the island came and were cured. 10 They honored us in many ways; and when we were ready to sail, they furnished us with the supplies we needed."

I was the "girl in every port" during my husband's Mediterranean deployment on the USS America in 1967. The port of Valetta, Malta, remains one of my favorites in the 8 months I traveled around Europe. I picked up the book The Great Siege and read it while I was there. So fascinating to read while looking at the actual scenes in the book. I just re-read it I would love to go back, but at 82, I probably won't.

I am not Maltija, I am Hungarian and living in the island the last ten months and I love it. Your presentation was well thought out well presented and enjoyable.I am mostly studying the time of the Great Siege that connects me with the Malti people because we had the same Ottoman power and even the same Sultan who after Malta came to Hungary to die outside one of our fortification at Szigetvár. The heroic fight of Maltese touched my heart it really strikes a chord because Hungarians did the same. I live in Bormla just outside of Birgu in the famous Three Cities and I love it. I have been searching every spot I could for the remarkable events of the Siege.

I mostly grew up between Canada and Michigan, USA. Always wanted to go home, to Malta, but no such luck, so far. I love being Maltese and wear the Maltese Cross everyday. I am flying to Malta from the U.S. in January to meet up with friends from Canada and Columbia in Gozo. So excited! This documentary is inspiring and so informative. I really want to see the neolithic settlements. Just the idea of standing near a civilization that harks back to 3800 BC is utterly fascinating to me. And I thought the Mayan ruins at Uxmal and Chichen Itza were something!

I watch your videos from France (a country which has still not been reviewed despite our presence on all continents except Asia, that is to say that the part on the climates in France would be fascinating to watch knowing that many are represented there! ^^). I wanted to thank you for your content that we find too little on the UA-cam platform. Indeed, I believe that AtlasPro sometimes talks about the impact of geography and climate on societies, but to a much lesser extent.
This is a subject that fascinates me and which is absolutely not addressed by French-speaking channels, which is why I also welcome your initiative to translate your videos into multiple languages, although the English version suits me perfectly as far as I'm concerned :)

I am wondering if Maltese Islanders will be affected by rising sea levels .... it looks like much of it is built right down to the shoreline in a couple of the pics. Nowadays too, it appears to be one of the few genuine democracies going by the constitutional arrangements mentioned here. This is a very interesting video, thanks. Good to learn some more on city state Malta's history, economy, physical features, and culture etc.

Yes, Maltese Islanders may face challenges from rising sea levels, such as coastal erosion, flooding, and threats to infrastructure. Given Malta's small size and low-lying areas, proactive measures like improved coastal defenses and sustainable planning are crucial to mitigate long-term impacts on the population and economy.

I am an ex Maltese, being an Aussie. Your history roundup was quite good for the history of the Maltese Islands. For the Maltese people it is another matter. Maltese people are the descendants of Sicilians, islamized, and speaking Siculo-Arabic from the Agrigento region, what the Maltese call Girgenti, and they arrived to the unpopulated Maltese Islands about 1000 years ago. So nothing to do with Phoenicians, Carthagenians, Romans and most of those people mentioned in this video. So basically the Muslim North Africans in Sicily, the Normans and so forth.

I visited Malta as a speaker at a Global Peace Conference a couple of years ago. It was one of the high points of my life despite only having two days to tour. The other three days were given over to presentations and meeting academics from all over the world who were involved in peace actions and teaching..

I think you underplayed the significance and longevity of the catholic faith since the first century. A key to the people and their resilience through all the changes😊

Great video! As for Maltese dogs you missed Kelb tal-Fenek or Pharaoh hound, which is indigenous to Malta (I dont think Maltese terrier is at all).

Thanks! Yes the Pharoah hound is Maltese. We'll never get to know the true origins of the Maltese terrier (I had no idea the breed went back to antiquity).

12:38 - Malta, the only European country that rarely get snow than the rest (because it's a islands that separate from the mainlands).

I lived in Malta for 3 years. Even although it was during the Mintoff years, Malta was as close as possible to Paradise. Maybe not so great for the native inhabitants but, for me, it was superb. The people were friendly and accepting of all (but not for the opposing political party). Much has been changed since those years. Malta is now prosperous, with a large population of Russian oligarchs, the usual assortment of mafia, and membership of the European Union.
