Still love those electrical mechanical EM sounds. So satisfying and unique at the same time. Any recent pinball machine that's been released can't recapture those sounds. But I can't deny solid state early 80s machines have unique sounds as well. So satisfying to the ear.

Joe, I just open a brand new, unopened pinball machine from 1977, Its been in the box unopened for 45 years, put the legs on and connected the back box with three connections. Looks in good shape but is it safe to turn it on? and as always thank you.
I've never played one of those Allied Leisure games, if the game board doesn't have a battery that's leaked all over it, I'd turn the sucker on and see what happens. My guess? It'll work
@@bonghits02 yes, I was just looking at the schematic, very complicated, I plan to turn it on Sunday, It may take another 45 years to understand the schematic.
Enjoyed as I always do. You (seemed) to put it off forever.. I'm guessing because of the backglass? Or maybe because you had a lot of customer machines before it. Certainly one of the less involved repairs Always fun to watch.. Nicely done.
Yeah we just had a bunch of other customer repairs in front of it… we’re to the point now we’re doing like 5 or 6 customers games for every one of ours in the pinballs at least…

Would love to see how the 'Thing' mechanism works too as your ball went down a hole and 'Thing' would pop up and put it back in play :D
I haven't had one in, that's one of my favorite games though, very cool use of the license I always thought. It's kind of the Gold Standard of licensed games...
JOE CLASSIC, I'm confused because the "impulse" says on the schematic 2C, it doesn't say its going to impulse position 2,3,4,5 on the sequence of operations of the score motor. What I'm confused about is how would you know when you see an Impulse symbol on the schematic so know how many positions its going to impulse because I logically thought it would only pulse ONE TIME not 5X times. I'm not sure what "impulse 2C" really means I would just guess 2C means row 2 and position C which is 3 i'm guessing. Correct me if I'm wrong since I don't know how this works logically
The Impulse designation is letting you know that it connects more than once.. and position 2C just means cam 2, switch C (there's an "a" and a "b" switch as well that do other things).... then when you look over on that legend on the left, the little drawing everywhere there's a box that is where the switch moves. So on that particular one it shows that it scores on position 1,2,3,4,5 . . so the way you would know that it's going to do it more than once, is because it says "impulse".. and then if you look at the drawing on the left of the schematics, you can see when it pulses. Here's the schematic if you want to check it out Wayne! - www.ipdb.org/files/1677/Bally_Night_Rider_Schematic.pdf
Hi Ron I have a Bally Night Rider it will not start a game all the sudden if I start it manually the top kick out hole don't kick the ball out drop targets won't score 50 points knock them all done scores 3000 and it's the only time the score motor will turn and reset the targets coin door lights keep playing the bulbs so I'm at lost to look where the problem would be at any advice would be helpful
Wow, I bet most if not all of that relay logic could be replaced with a single PLC and nobody would even know the difference. Add LEDs for illumination and make it a hybrid. LOL
@@LyonsArcade -- I'm not disagreeing. I'm of a different opinion as I've experimented a lot as a kid. The vibration is a property of the metal itself and should be firmly affixed to whatever resonator through some sort of isolator for firm conduction. Just check a new doorbell and you can see what I mean. It has to be pretty firm. I guess there is a balance, and I guess it depends on whether you have a resonator or not. I'd imagine if you have a resonator, you'd likely want it a bit firmer than if you don't, to make it more as one with the resonator. And the gains of a firm connection with the resonator should more than make up for any slight dampening.
I probably shouldn't say this; but I'm surprised there isn't a digital version that utilizes a built in amp and speakers to play stored sound bites of the electro-mechanical sounds associated with the analog game. Ya know, a digit counter incrementing, the clack of a bumper, chimes, buzzer etc. all triggered off the various devices. I can just see it now, multiple menus of sounds with assignable parameters with built in diagnostics. LOL and the funny part is, I bet if you put it next to an analog game the analog one would get more play.
You could do it with a processor but you'd have to wire everything individually, it would take forever... and then it'd be wired completely differently for another game so it wouldn't be all that useful in this situation...
@@LyonsArcade Wiring wouldn't be all that. All the switches would go to the inputs, all the lights and solenoids and most of the relay coils to the outputs; but then it would still have to be programmed which is no fun at all. I don't really think a pinball game would be worth a retrofit; except to cut the cost of manufacturing. .However some go too far and use PLCs to save them from having to think the operation out. I once had no choice but to go the other way and replace a PLC with an unavailable program for an obsolete can crusher of a commercial kitchen with relays. It doesn't take long to fill a 20 yard dumpster with gallon cans when you can't crush them. LOL They're aren't many of us left who even understand relay logic anymore man; I had to teach a Dosney imagineer fresh out of college what a latch circuit was. One thing for sure, you'll never go hungry my friend. LOL

I cant help pointlessly comparing this pinball machine to a certain 8 floor em elevator controller (and em elevator controllers in general), after watching maybe 25 of your videos... The pinball machine has more states but the elevator controller has more relays. (112 3PDT relays + at least another 10 for this elevator). The elevator has (had) a positional device ...sort of as opposed to 'score motors' in comparison . The elevator "car-top floor selector" (as they call it in the schematic) is more complex then a pinball score motor but there is only one. This elevator does have dispatch logic for the other elevator in a bank of two so that's what 10 or so relays are doing, and of course there's fire service and other fun extras including doors, sensors, main motor, brake, and timers. It has to remember at least 23 individual bits. So it's actually a very close call in comparison!
