Been a minute. How is the power situation or you are not in Cuba now. Keenan you have a spirit like mine. I am very sensitive to the needy. When I saw that lady my heart was overwhelmed. I am Zimbabwean and have a cousin that studied in Cuba many years ago. And Cuba as a country helped a lot of Southern African countries during our liberation struggles so forever indebted to Cuban people. I also live around many Cubans. The politicians really mess things up. There is nothing inherently wrong with communism or socialism except the corrupt elites take 90% of the cake and leave the rest to fight over nothing Imagine $4 as a pension. I have been to China. They are sort of socialist but the Chinese have evolved their socialism to where they would not tolerate a majority of their citizens suffering. The old man clearly dissociates his condition from the political system that is causing his suffering. Or maybe in his mind socialism is ideal and whatever costs comes with it, then he can pay or endure the consequences. He has not opened his eyes to know he does not have to suffer. Do you sometimes feel drained. I have been to some barrios in Colombia which is a relatively rich country albeit with huge income inequalities and the conditions are bad. I know suffering from my country and sometimes it breaks your heart because whatever help you give you know tomorrow the people are back on the hamster wheel in survival mode. Unfortunately these conditions also affect how people perceive interactions and relationships. It primes people to want to take advantage of others especially foreigners or gringos. Let’s not forget some gringos also take advantage of the poverty to use girls and make false promises. Two way street. Never ending saga. Enjoy your travels brother.
My friend, I thankfully missed that whole fiasco with the electrical grid..... CRAZY.... I feel drained when I stay too long in Cuba... Knowing I cannot do anything singlehandedly to lift the Cuban people is hard. Instead, I create these videos to lift the Cuban tourism industry and hope it presses more dollars into the economy that way.... I think about the young people.... How screwed they are until they leave Cuba.
Love the video, thanks for sharing the real Cuba, And it's people. The thing about Cuban people is that nothing breaks their spirt and they will share everything they have.
I gotta ask how you are coping with no electricity over there. I seriously considered going next month, but I definitely changed my mind with the island mostly dark.

I have been in Cuba 20 times, I suggest you take US Dollars cash at least $100 dollars for each day you stay, ATM machines dont work, also take some medication Tylenol, Peptobismol and some snacks for your self, Cuba stores have very little items

Brother Joe! In me walking around I have seen some of the ruins of old clubs... I heard about a recent murder and robberies in Cayo Hueso.... Desperation and a lack of options is frustrating the young men..... Not good....
Several years ago I read an article that talked about money and happiness. They researched people and found that peoples happiness level rose until they were making $75k USD a year but after that they didn't get any happier, only had more money. But people the people making under 75k were less and less happy the further they got away from 75k. That was before inflation took off so that might be closer to 100k now but you get the point.

One thing about Cubans the migrate to the US attempt to forget where they come from they don’t help at all. It’s sad, but it’s true Cubans that live in Miami support USA sanctions.
It is sad to see in these times people existing in such poverty. Like the Brazilian President said, sanctions could be as bad as a huge bomb, it affects so many.
