"If you tried a full presentation, even a half full one, you'd have to be here for 20, maybe 50 lectures. And I doubt that you want that."
    That's where you're wrong, bucko

As far as I'm concerned if Aquinas got Sainthood, well, so should Miss Rand and Dr. Peikoff! :O)

I am not Aquinas' angel. I have to as a human being grasp particulars by applying my abstraction, by a new act of thought in each particular case and the things I grasp, fine, and the things I don't, as long as I am open and working, is not held against me! 😄

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:

Aquinus followed Averos from Andulucia and Avicena from Uzbekistan.
Averos commented on Aristotle, Averos wrote a book on faith and reason, he was more Aristolean than any other philosophers before him and Aquinus wrote his book after being asked by the pope to neutralise Averos influence.
Ibn Tufyl wrote a novel in 12th century and its core philosophy is faith and reason. Ibn Tufyl in his novel "alive son of awaken " prove that human beings can understand metaphysics by reason via humanistic values.
Aquinus copied Averos, Avicena and AlGazali before him .Aquinus didn't bring anything new.

He brought something new, he reconciled it with Christianity

The only problem with Aquinas is when reason contradicts faith.
Is the human history only 6000 years old?
Can a virgin woman give a birth?
    etc, etc.

I don't think catholics in the roman empire even believed in the book of genesis literally and yeah I suppose we classical theist can believe in miracles since as pure actuality God can actuate anything I suppose while bypassing the laws in reality that he created
I'm not catholic just a classical theist who happens to be a non-denominational Christian but I don't even think catholics believe in the old testament
I can understand miracles not being possible if God is a being composed of parts in the world but with the classical theistic conception of God where he is just subsistent existence I don't see a reason as to why he can't do this

@@neologos4395 Having been raised Catholic, I can tell you Catholics today do accept the Old Testament as inspired by God, but they do not see it--or any part of the Bible--as incapable of disproof by reason; indeed, they accept science as having disproved the Bible in virtually every instance in which the two are in conflict with each other. On the other hand, Catholics at the time of the Roman Empire believed differently, and the difference was Aquinas. Prior to Aquinas, they were in line with Augustine, much as many Protestants still are today, i.e.: the overriding goal is to strengthen one's faith, and mere human understanding and science are to be distrusted.

There’s a ton of great scholarship into these questions. If you really want an answer, do some research into them. You might just be convinced. Or maybe that’s what you’re afraid of.

Jesus country rabbi was standing on shoulders of giants merely preaching Greek Philosophy. The immortal soul idea isn't Hebrew its the gift of Socrates n Pythagoras...and Love ( as for Angels, Archangels n Holy Spirit, also ideas stolen from Persians n Geeks)
