  • One thing lead to another and this solar system got out of control... in a good way. We were able to fit 14 200 w panels on the roof of this 42 ft 5th wheel RV and plenty of battery and Victron components to keep them powered up as they continue to travel the country.

    Lots of solar! Nice. Glad they added the 4th battery to go along with all that solar.

    You ended up going with 4 batteries after all. Looks great!

    I’ve used the upload/download of Multiplus II settings as an alternative to keeping an Ethernet cable attached. Works like a champ.

      @@sotasolar my cell has internet hot spot. If I must, I can pull the panel and do a hard connect. But, if I have problems, internet will be the least of my problems.

      @@sotasolar I've since added the ethernet stub cable into my raceway solution. Also, the 'thumb screws' now on the bottom cover of the Multiplus II. Thanks for the suggestions!

    Shawn, Can you provide more details on the solar specifics of this install. I see 2 different size solar charge controllers. What is you panel wiring configuration (series/parallel configuration. Curious what the VOC/ISC of the panels are to handle (14) 200W panels ( I assume Rich Solar )

      2s3p in the 150/70 and 2s4p into the 150/100 running around 80-85 v , staying around 10-20 amps PV.
      This was supposed to be a relatively moderate system. It’s just kept grow and growing bit by bit during the install.

    Before you run the wire, wouldn’t it be easier to mark each roll and put a piece of tape on the end with positive one negative one positive two, negative 2?

    I've been feeling stuck between going with 2x eg4 12v 400ah batteries or 3x SOK 280ah. I realized when watching one of your other videos that the EG4 is basically going to limit me to something like 1,440 watt (60a BMS) or 2,400-watt (100a BMS) draw before surpassing its max discharge rate and auto shutting down. Am I understanding that right? So my 3000 watt inverter is basically useless because it's limited by the EG4 batteries? The SOK can just discharge casually at 200a so with 3 I'll literally never be limited by the batteries discharge? Am I understanding all of this correctly?
    Reason I ask is, I will run an AC unit and a coffee roaster and routinely hit about 2,500 watts (from the inverter) for fairly short periods. Thanks!

      The EG4s we used did not work well on 12 or 24v , 48 might be different. There is a reason they don’t make an appearance on the channel much. :-)

    Do you have the specs on the 200watt solar panels (size, dimensions, performance specs) you use on rooftop? I am endeavoring to optimize the rooftop solar on my bus conversion between the hatches. I currently have six, 250watt Trina polycrystaline panels on two superstrut rails in a train rail config (two rails length of bus between the hatches). I am considering putting superstrut rails across the roof (side-to-side) resting on the two rails in order to more efficiently mount panels to use the space up to about the edge of the roof.

    It’s not wise to house electric components in the same compartment as propane. If a propane leak occurs one arch and its all over. You have to relocate the propane.

    • @sotasolar
      @sotasolar  Місяць тому

      I think that compartment is supposed to house a generator as well from the factory. That’s a great point all the same. I believe they do have leak detectors in that compartment.

    You're crazy putting all the electrical in literally the same space as the LPG.

I tend to skip through videos that stray as well. I don’t wanna see kids or dogs or other projects, make those their own videos. Good work nonetheless!
