Happy Teacher's Day, Neil and Phil! It is Teacher's Day here in Taiwan! We need to show our respect to our teachers today! I wished Sian a happy Teacher's Day in her Live Class earlier. Please also wish Beth, Catherine, Dan, Dylan, Feifei, Jiaying, Rob, Sam, Tim, and Tom a happy Teacher's Day!
Thanks a lot Brian! We appreciate your kind comments 🥰
@@bbclearningenglishi suddenly come up with a question, what's the difference between teacher's day and teachers' day?
@@宏观经济将沟沟壑壑 well, According to grammar, we use teachers' when we talk about all the teachers in the world. But if you talk about one teacher then write teacher's. For instance : this is our math teacher's bag.
Yet people especially natives tend to bend the grammar rule. They use teacher's instead of teachers' most of the time. So, you can write both of them interchangeably 👍

Neil's voice makes me scream but with happiness!
It's my first time commenting on a video in English as english is not my first anguage. I want to express my gratitude to all the teachers out there. And it's also the first time iam hearing the term 'misophonia'. Moreover it's my first day of learning English with bbc. I'm leaving this comment here so that i can check my progress after 3 months❤
Congratulations on your first comment in English! You write very well :)
@@bbclearningenglish Thanks❤
I had been a steadfast supporter of bbc for 2 months. What on earth my vocabularies are immensely improving...I am religiously all ears listening to bbc videos and I learned a lot...thank you bbc
Innocuous noises could trigger somebody's flight-or-fight instincts. The fact that other people don't seem bothered by annoying sounds can also take its toll on misophonia sufferers. It is the same type of response as someone close to you passing away when you hear annoying sounds. It is almost like a shock to the system.
what a genius
It's really nice to hear that you are bringing attention to misophonia. I remember growing up, the amount of data on this was almost nil. My triggers all revolve around food and it was a nightmare as a child where you can't control your eating environment.
This can be very bad for your social life. Certain people can trigger you much more intensely than others - imagine it happening to be a family member or best friend.
Thanks for your comment and sorry to hear about your misophonia. We hope you found the programme interesting!
Thanks a lot for the useful informations and vocabularies❤
Glad it was helpful!

My summary while listening
Today's topic is about the disturbing, irritating, or even unbrearable sounds which come from actions such as biting nails, rustiling a crisp bag or scraping a knife on a dinner plate. There's even a name, "misophonia" which means sound rage and it's more common than we actually think.
According to Olana Tansley - Hancock, a British clinical researcher, she suffers from misphonia and explains that certain sounds trigger a fight or flight response in her. This usually happens with life-threatening situations like a fire or an attacking animal but for misophonia sufferers, a innocuous noise could take its toll on her.
More from Olana, she describes her condition as an uncontrollable and sudden reaction as if finding a loved one has passed away. However, there are a few solutions which help to cope with misophonia such as playing background music while people slurping their food and sipping their tea or clearly explaining what misophonia is so people could sympathize and understand.
Nhạc này làm cho tôi nhớ lại những khoảnh khắc đáng nhớ.

As time goes by, I have a bit of misophonia and I found loud music quite disturbing.
The most annoying sound is the reggaeton that my neighbours play at full volume.

Really some sounds are really irritating and unbearable. For example the beating on the table and putting down the steel utensils. That feels like beating on our body

Just imaging the sound of nail scraping on the board in my mind is already unbearable for me. Even though that kind of sound is innocuous, it might be a trigger for me.

For me l hate alarm sound and
baby crying sound : )
Those are definitely annoying sounds!
I also get annoyed when my father sneezes. His sneeze is so loud and sounds like an atomic bomb. I suppose he likes to do everything with force almost all the time. Consequently, he is called by the entire family "Atomic Bomb"! I wish every trigger will bottom out 😅.
Oh dear! That does sound annoying 😅! Some people are very dramatic sneezers🤧!
@@bbclearningenglish Yeah, that's dismal😂
The sound of people sipping their drinks is irritating
